3 3 What's New in this Release Support for Microsoft Hyper-V This release introduces support for Hyper-V hosts managed by Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM). V-Commander provides a management and cloud automation platform for organizations wanting to use multiple hypervisors. With V-Commander, you can make the right technology and economic decisions specific to your environment, for your chosen virtualization platform. V-Commander supports a wide range of features with Hyper-V, including inventory and reporting, change and configuration management, policy automation, cost visibility and chargeback, and self service and provisioning automation. For details on feature support in this initial Hyper-V release, see "V-Commander Features by Managed System Type" in the V-Commander User Guide. Chargeback and IT Costing In the Chargeback and IT Costing category, we've introduced multi-tenant cost model capability and a new VM Billing report. Multi-tenant Cost Models V-Commander now offers the ability to create cost models and assign them to parts of your virtual infrastructure. Each cost model contains distinct CPU, memory, storage, operating system, support and custom costs. You can assign different costs to high-end versus low-end compute resources, to different hypervisor platforms, or to different groups of consumers.

4 4 New VM Billing Report The VM Billing Report provides a metered view of actual VM usage and associated cost. The VM Billing report shows you summarized daily costs for any period you choose (for example, the last week or the last month), as well as costs for VMs assigned to a particular owner. VM Migration You can now migrate VMs from a vcenter managed system to an SCVMM managed system. V- Commander allows easy adoption of Hyper-V into your environment by providing a reliable mechanism to transfer VMs from VMware to Hyper-V, while retaining key metadata. Migration from vcenter to SCVMM is experimental; Embotics Corporation is looking for customer feedback in this area. To help optimize VM placement within your virtual infrastructure, you can also migrate VMs to other locations in the same vcenter managed system. You can migrate a VM to another folder, host, resource pool, or datastore, or to another host and datastore. V-Commander provides capacity information to guide you in selecting the target host, cluster or datastore. V-Commander also lists any policy actions that will be triggered on the VM as a result of the migration.

5 5 Change and Configuration Management We've improved two reports in the Change and Configuration Management category in this release. Enhanced Application Summary Report To help track down license violations, the Application Summary report now includes an optional table that lists all applications installed on the scanned VMs and provides the name of each VM that hosts that application. We've also added several new report filters: Application Name, In Inventory, Major Version Number, and Total Apps on VM.

Enhanced Storage Summary Report The Storage Summary report now allows you to filter by storage tier, provisioning level, datastore type (CIFS, NFS or VMFS), whether the datastore is included in capacity calculations, and the percentage of free space (in addition to filtering by managed system). The Provisioning Level is now included in the report, and the overall layout has been improved. The provisioning level represents the used and uncommitted space in the datastore, as a percentage of total space. Guest OS Disk Usage Per-volume disk usage information is now displayed on the Guest OS Details tab for a VM in both V-Commander and the Service Portal. Disk usage information is retrieved either from a guest OS (WMI) scan or from VMware Tools.

These properties can be displayed in the Details pane of the VM Summary tab, as well as used as search filters: A new saved V-Commander search, VMs with High Disk Latency, finds all VMs with a maximum weekly peak latency greater than 30 ms. This metric is available only for VMware vsphere 4.1 and later. VM Uptime V-Commander and the Service Portal now display VM uptime - the time since the VM was last powered on. Uptime allows you to verify that service-level agreements are satisfied.

You can now average the values for VM uptime, request duration, workflow duration and workflow step duration in ed saved searches and exported CSV files. The new V-Commander variable #{vm.poweredonsince} allows you to access the date when the VM was powered on. Automation and Self Service This release offers several improvements in the Automation and Self Service category. Workflows: You can set form-based automation options in approval workflows for change requests. This allows you, for example, to allow automatic fulfillment for decommissioning requests, while requiring manual fulfillment for resource change requests. Report Scheduling: When scheduling reports, you can now specify that when reports and search results are sent via , the parameters used to create the report will not be displayed. You can also schedule a task to be run only once. Custom Component Types: Create custom component types for non-vm service requests, so that you can add the same component type and cost to different Service Catalog entries. Custom components include both non-virtual assets (such as a phone) and tasks that modify existing assets (such as the installation of a database instance on an existing server). Custom component types are associated with their own forms, so that users can specify values in a service request (for example, the request form can prompt users to specify the required size for a database component). Component-based New Service Request Forms: V-Commander now provides default New Service Request forms for VMs and for vapps, as well as for any custom component types that you create. You can create additional component forms and assign them to various users and groups. Component-based forms provide complete control over what fields appear on the New Service Request form for each component type; for example, the default vapp request form does not include the CPU Count or Memory fields. Form-based Custom Attributes: You can now create custom attributes that are used only on service request forms. These custom attributes are not attached to deployed infrastructure or VMs. Form-based custom attributes are useful for capturing information required only during the service request process.

Search Improvements We've added a Quick Search to all of the tabs in the Operational view, VMs and Templates view, and Datastore view in V-Commander, as well as to the Virtual Machines and Virtual Apps tabs in the Service Portal. Just enter a few characters in the search field to narrow your view. The quick search uses the most common filters for each tab. Mouseover the question mark properties V-Commander is using. to learn what You can still choose search filters for the current tab by clicking Show Advanced Filters. Service Catalog Improvements When adding services to the Service Catalog, a new search field allows you to narrow the list of displayed components. The search field searches the Name and Guest OS properties for VMs and Templates, and the Name property for vapps.

Likewise, a VM created from a Service Request is not linked to its original request; the Service Request field in the Summary tab for a VM displays no linked New Service Requests.
