An unused interface on the SonicWALL NSA/TZ series appliance configured with a LAN Static IP address and a DHCP lease scope. Please refer to the SonicWALL WXA Quick Start Guide for more information. A PC with a Pentium 4 processor or higher with: o CD/DVD ROM bay o Minimum of 2 GB RAM o Minimum of 80 GB hard disk o Monitor and Keyboard o IDE Controller or SATA Controller with support for IDE Emulation Customers with current service/software support contracts can obtain updated versions of SonicWALL firmware from the MySonicWALL customer portal at Updated firmware is also available for free within 90 days of registering the SonicWALL device on MySonicWALL. Deployment Considerations WFS Acceleration is supported in Install Mode only. 3 Registering your SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD You must register your SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD before first use. Registration is performed using the NSA/TZ appliance management interface. It is recommended that you also associate your WXA 500 LiveCD as a child to the managing NSA/TZ appliance. When registration is completed, the SonicWALL WXA appliance will be licensed and ready to use. This section contains the following subsections: Creating a MySonicWALL Account... 3 Registering the WXA 500 Serial Number... 4 Associating the WXA 500 LiveCD... 5 Activating the WXA 500 License... 7 Creating a MySonicWALL Account A MySonicWALL account is required for product registration. If you already have an account, continue to the Registering, Associating, and licensing the WXA 500 sections. Perform the following steps to create a MySonicWALL account: 1. In your web browser, navigate to 2. In the login screen, click the Not a registered user? Register Now link. 3. Complete the registration form, click Register. 4. Verify the information you entered is correct, click Submit. 5. In the confirmation screen, click continue. 3
4 Registering the WXA 500 Serial Number To register your SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD, perform the following steps: 1. Log in to your account. 2. Navigate to the My Products > Register Product page. 3. Enter you Serial Number, Friendly Name, Product Group, and Authentication Code. 4. Click the Submit button. You have successfully registered your SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD. 4
5 Associating the WXA 500 LiveCD Note: It is highly recommended that you associate the WXA 500 LiveCD with the managing NSA/TZ appliance. To associate the SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD as a child to your NSA/TZ appliance, perform the following steps: 1. Log in to your account. 2. Navigate to the My Products > Product Management page. 3. Click on the NSA/TZ appliance you are using to manage the SonicWALL WXA appliance. The Service Management page displays. 4. Under the Associated Products section, click WAN Acceleration. 5
6 The My Product > Associated Products page displays. 5. In the Serial Number drop-down list, select the serial number for the WXA 500 LiveCD. 6. Click the Associate button. Your SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD is now associated with the managing NSA/TZ appliance. 6
7 Activating the WXA 500 License To activate your SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD license, perform the following steps: 1. Log in to your SonicWALL NSA/TZ appliance. 2. Navigate to the System > License page. 3. Click the click here link to activate, upgrade, or renew services. The License Management page displays. 4. Enter your MySonicWALL.com account Address or Username and Password in the appropriate fields, click Submit. 7
8 The MySonicWALL.com home page displays. 5. Enter the Activation Key or Serial Number in the textbox, click Next. 6. If you have multiple NSA/TZ appliances registered, select the one you are using with your WXA appliance. The Activate Service page displays. 7. Enter the Activation Key(s), click Submit. 8
9 The confirmation page displays. You have successfully licensed your SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD. 8. Before accessing the WAN Acceleration page, navigate to the System > Licenses page and click the Synchronize button. This synchronizes the licenses between the License Manager and NSA/TZ appliance. 9
10 Setting up the SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD To set up the SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD, perform the following steps: 1. Download the ISO from mysonicwall.com. 2. Burn the ISO to a CD/DVD. 3. Connect your PC to an unused interface on the SonicWALL NSA/TZ. 4. Power on your PC. a. Change the BIOS settings so that the CD-ROM is the first boot device. b. If you have a SATA Controller, change its mode to IDE emulation (if necessary). Some BIOS refer to this as Legacy or Combined mode. 5. Insert the LiveCD into the CD-ROM bay on your PC. 6. Save and Exit BIOS. The How do you wish to use the product? prompt displays: 10
11 Using the SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD The SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD can be run from the CD in Memory Mode or can be installed onto your PC in Install Mode. This section details the configuration steps for the Memory and Install Modes. Memory Mode (Live) Memory Mode runs the SonicWALL WXA 500 firmware entirely from the CD and does not make any changes to your PC. To configure Memory Mode on your PC, perform the following steps: 1. Select the Run the product from CD option, press the Enter key. 2. The SonicWALL WAN Optimization Configuration prompt displays. Select the Show Network Settings option, press the Enter button. 11
12 The Show Network Settings prompt displays: If your SonicWALL NSA/TZ series appliance is configured correctly you should see a DHCP assigned IP address. If not, check the DHCP server (following the WXA installation guide) and click the Renew IP Address menu item. The SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD is now operational in Memory Mode. 3. Navigate to the WAN Acceleration tab on your SonicWALL NSA/TZ series appliance to configure the WAN Acceleration service. 12
13 Install Mode The Install Mode installs the SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD firmware onto your PC. To configure Install Mode on your PC, perform the following steps: 1. Select the Install the Product option. 2. Press the Enter key. 3. The Select Hard Disk to install to prompt displays. Select the Install to HDA option, and then press the Enter key. The SonicWALL WXA 500 firmware is now installed on your PC. 13
14 4. The CD Eject prompt displays. Press the Enter key to eject the SonicWALL WXA 500 LiveCD from the CD-ROM drive. 5. The Reboot PC prompt displays. Press the Enter key to reboot your PC into the SonicWALL WXA 500 Install Mode. 6. Follow steps 2-3 in the Memory Mode section of this document to complete the installation. 14
