Installation on the SPARC/CPU-0V,VT(e) Installation on the SPARC/CPU-0V,VT(e) The installation of memory modules is the same on a SPARC/CPU-0VTe and on a SPARC/CPU-0VT. Furthermore, it is almost the same on a SPARC/CPU-0V, the only difference being that it is not necessary to separate the base board and the SBus I/O board since there is no SBus I/O board on a SPARC/CPU-0V. Therefore, this installation guide uses the term SPARC/CPU-0VT summarily. Note: During the installation you will handle screws and standoffs of different sizes. If you uninstall components, ensure that you remember which screw or standoff fits in which place. General procedure To get an overview of the relevant locations have a look at the following figure and compare it to your configuration of SBus, memory and MBus modules: lower upper memory modules Base board MEM- 0L MEM- 0U MBus modules VME power mod. SBus I/O board Front panel SBus modules VME power mod. Note: When uninstalling or installing MBus or memory modules, note that at least the following components are required to be installed on the SPARC/CPU-0VT (to locate them see figure above): the MBus module and the lower memory module (MEM-0L ). SPARC/MEM-0 Page 5

Installation on the SPARC/CPU-0V,VT(e) To install a SPARC/MEM-0 on a SPARC/CPU-0VT follow the steps below:. Note that each MEM-0L includes 4 little standoffs, whereas each MEM-0U includes 4 screws: Little standoff Screw. Remove the SPARC/CPU-0VT from the VME rack according to the CPU board s Installation Guide.. If your configuration includes SBus modules, remove SBus module (see respective section on page 9). 4. Check for standoffs at the locations marked as,, and in the figures below: SBus I/O board with optional VME power module (part of the SPARC/CPU-0VT/SBus-AccKit) VME power module Flexible PCB with connectors for the base board Cross-section of a completely assembled SPARC/CPU-0VT SBus modules SBus I/O board MBus modules Memory modules Base board Flexible PCB,, and Page 6 SPARC/MEM-0

Installation on the SPARC/CPU-0V,VT(e) 5. If there are no standoffs, skip this step and proceed with the next step. If there are standoffs at the locations,, and, two different situations can occur: In the first case your configuration includes the optional VME power module which is part of the SPARC/CPU- 0VT/SBus-AccKit. In this case, you have to separate the VME power module from the SBus I/O board by first disassembling the screws at the locations,, and on top of the VME power module (see figure below), thereafter unplugging the VME power module, and at last disassembling the standoffs at the same locations,, and between the VME power module and the SBus I/O board. SBus I/O board with VME power module VME power module Flexible PCB with connectors for the base board In the second case your configuration does not include the VME power module. In this case, you have to disassemble the screws at the same locations,, and as shown in the figure above but on top of the SBus I/O board instead of on top of the VME power module (see figure above). 6. Separate the base board and the SBus I/O board (see respective section on page 0). SPARC/MEM-0 Page 7

Installation on the SPARC/CPU-0V,VT(e) 7. If necessary, remove the installed MBus modules (see respective section on page ). To determine if it is necessary have a look at the following figure and compare it to your configuration of memory and MBus modules. lower upper memory modules Base board MEM- 0L MEM- 0U MBus modules VME power mod. 8. Install the memory modules (see respective section on page 5). 9. To assemble and install the SPARC/CPU-0VT follow the steps in the reverse order. Page 8 SPARC/MEM-0

Installation on the SPARC/CPU-0V,VT(e). Removing the SBus Module Follow the steps below for the SBus module :. Disassemble the screws marked as and in the figure below: SBus I/O board with extra front panel for the VMEbus slot occupied by the SBus modules SBus module SBus module 5 & 6 & 4. Disassemble the screws marked as, 4, 5, and 6 in the figure above. All 4 screws are accessible from the front-panel side.. Disconnect the SBus module from the SBus I/O board. After having taken the steps above, proceed with step 4 of the general procedure description on page 6. SPARC/MEM-0 Page 9

Installation on the SPARC/CPU-0V,VT(e). Separating the Base Board and the SBus I/O Board Note: There are ways in which the SBus I/O board is mechanically connected to the base board as described in step 4 of the general procedure description on page 6. Follow the steps below:. Disassemble the screws on the front panel marked as and in the figure below: Base board and SBus I/O board. Disassemble the 5 screws on the SBus I/O board marked as,,, 4, and 5 in the figure below: SBus I/O board 5 Flexible PCB with connectors for the base board 4 Page 0 SPARC/MEM-0

Installation on the SPARC/CPU-0V,VT(e). Unplug the connectors on the SBus I/O board s flexible PCB from the base board s connectors: Cross-section of a completely assembled SPARC/CPU-0VT: SBus modules SBus I/O board Flexible PCB MBus modules Memory modules Base board Base board SBus I/O board Connectors connecting the SBus I/O board to the base board 4. This step is only relevant in case of a SPARC/CPU-0VT configuration using hypersparc MBus modules with large heat sinks as shown in the figure below. Standard MBus Module Top view of standard MBus module (mounting holes marked as 4) 4 MBus Modules with Large Heat Sinks Top view of MBus modules A with larger heat sinks (mounting holes marked as 4, A, B) MBus module (= MBus-xxx/) MBus module (= MBus-xxx/) B 4 4 SPARC/MEM-0 Page

Installation on the SPARC/CPU-0V,VT(e) In this case, the SBus I/O board s flexible PCB is carried through a gap in the heat sink of MBus module. Therefore, it is necessary to first carefully separate the base board from the SBus I/O board as shown in the figure below before proceeding with the next step: SBus I/O board Base board Base board SBus I/O board 5. Separate the base board from the SBus I/O board carefully as shown below: SBus I/O board Base board After having taken the steps above, the SPARC/CPU-0VT is separated into its base board and its SBus I/O board. Page SPARC/MEM-0

Installation on the SPARC/CPU-0V,VT(e). Removing MBus Modules The steps to be done for removal depend on the type of MBus module to be removed:. case: SPARC/MBus-50H/ with larger heat sink. In this case you have to disassemble the screws at the bottom side of the base board at locations A and B as shown in the figure below. When assembled, they fasten the Mbus module to the base board, additionally to the screws 4 which are used for every MBus module. VME power module in nd slot occupied by SPARC/CPU-0VT A B MBus module (= MBus-50H/) MBus module (= MBus-50H/) 4 4 Base board. case: all other MBus modules: VME power module in nd slot occupied by SPARC/CPU-0VT MBus module MBus module 4 4 Base board Therefore, do the following steps for each MBus module to be uninstalled:.
