2 2 General Software Requirements Verify that your computer is running Microsoft Windows or 64-bit, or Windows 8. ACSELERATOR RTAC software has been tested and verified for installation only on those operating systems. Also, verify that your computer is running Microsoft.NET Framework 4 or higher. ACSELERATOR RTAC uses Microsoft.NET Framework as a supporting interface for portions of the application user interface. Product Overview Front Panel q w e r t y u i o 1) q LAMP TEST button. Connect to a power source that meets the rating printed on the rear panel of the SEL Only one supply is required to power the SEL-3555, so a second supply is optional. Introduction t y u i o The SEL-3555 RTAC, built on the powerful x86-64 architecture, is an extreme performance member of the RTAC family that comes standard with all basic RTAC capabilities. It is designed to operate in extreme environments and carries the Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. ten-year worldwide warranty. The SEL-3555 RTAC provides the following features. Configure and send HMI settings to the SEL-3555 RTAC using SEL-5035 Diagram Builder software. For questions about installing and running Diagram Builder, please refer to the ACSELERATOR Diagram Builder Instruction Manual. For questions about ordering the HMI, contact an SEL sales representative. PCI Expansion Cards: The optional PCI expansion boards provide up to 8 additional fiber or copper Ethernet ports or as many as 18 additional rear-panel (RJ45) ports. PCI expansions cards purchased with the SEL-3555 RTAC come installed. For PCI expansion card instructions, please refer to the SEL-3555 Instruction Manual. For questions about ordering PCI expansion cards, please contact an SEL sales representative a. ACSELERATOR RTAC Library Extensions: ACSELERATOR RTAC library extensions, available for download at are prebuilt code components for advanced users of the SEL-3555 RTAC. After downloading, the instruction manuals for each of the library extensions are accessible within the ACSELERATOR RTAC Help menu. a IRIG-IN is only available through the serial PCI expansion card. The following is a list of steps described in this guide: Step 1. Apply power to the SEL-3555 RTAC. Step 2. Get web access for initial configuration. Step 3. Verify that the operating system and Microsoft.NET versions on your computer meet the software requirements. Step 4. Install ACSELERATOR RTAC SEL-5033 Software. Step 5. Use ACSELERATOR RTAC software to create and download your first project. See the SEL-5033 Instruction Manual. Verify the input voltage matches the rating on the SEL-3555 power supply. Use AWG ( mm 2 ) wire to connect to the power terminals. If you are performing the initial setup in an office or lab with ac wall outlets, we suggest using a power cable (SEL Part No. C5448). Insert the wiring for your incoming power into the green connector of the power supply (or supplies) and apply power (see Figure 1 and Figure 2). After applying power, wait (possibly as long as 30 seconds) for the green ENABLED LED on the RTAC to illuminate before proceeding. SEL-3555 RTAC Getting Started Guide Date Code

5 5 Figure 1 Create a User Account Single Power Supply Figure 2 Dual Power Supplies The RTAC hosts a website that displays important system information, provides a settings interface for networking and user accounts, and provides an optional HMI system. For security reasons, every RTAC is shipped from the SEL factory with no user accounts enabled. Once you have created an administrative account, you will be able to create as many additional user accounts as needed, or enable Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) for central authentication management. Section 6: Security of the ACSELERATOR RTAC SEL-5033 Software Instruction Manual has more detailed information about user accounts and LDAP configuration. The following sections describe access through direct video or through Ethernet connections to your PC. Once connected to the web interface, you can create the initial administrator account and perform other initial configurations. Direct Video Web Access Optionally connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to access the SEL-3555 web interface by following these steps: Step 1. Connect the keyboard and mouse to any of the USB ports as shown in Figure 3. Figure 3 USB Connection Step 2. Connect the monitor(s) to the video ports. Figure 8 Either DVI-I or DVI-D With DisplayPort (DVI-I Shown) The RTAC supports any HID class-compliant USB keyboard or USB mouse on any of the USB ports. You can plug the mouse and keyboard in before turning on the RTAC or at any time during operation. Once you have connected your video displays along with the mouse and keyboard input, apply power to the monitor. You should see a web browser and the RTAC interface. Control video display resolution and touch screen configuration using the keyboard shortcuts shown in Table 1. To calibrate a USB-enabled touchscreen monitor, ensure the USB connection from the monitor is plugged into the RTAC, then perform the following steps: Step 1. Press <Ctrl+T> on the keyboard. Four targets will appear on the screen. Step 2. Click on each of the four targets. A miss on one target will restart the process. Once all four targets are successfully clicked, the RTAC stores the settings to preserve them through power cycles and firmware updates. Multiple touchscreens are not supported at this time. The rear-panel Ethernet ports have the following default TCP/IP addresses: ETH1 = ETH2 = You must set the IP address of your configuration PC so that it will be on the same subnet as the RTAC. For this example, use the following steps: Step 1. Open the network configuration tool in the Control Panel on your PC and set your PC TCP/IP address to Step 2. Connect an Ethernet cable to your PC and to ETH1 of the converted RTAC platform. Step 3. Open a web browser and complete the following steps to access the RTAC web interface: a. Type into the address bar and press <Enter>. This is the default IP address of the RTAC ETH1 interface. b. Accept the default security certificate for first-time use. Web browsers will give different messages, but they will usually indicate that the connection is not trusted or not safe because you have not yet configured a security certificate (see Section 6: Security in the ACSELERATOR RTAC SEL-5033 Instruction Manual). 9 9 Web Access and Initial Configuration With the web interface open, you are ready to create an initial administrator account and perform other settings. Follow these steps to create an initial administrator account. Ensure you do not forget the username and password you create in these steps. Step 1. The RTAC will automatically prompt you to create an administrative user account, as shown in Figure 9. Enter the desired username and password. The password must be at least eight characters and contain at least one of each of the following: A Z, a z, 0 9, and a special character #, etc.). Click Submit. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. Figure 9 Creating an Administrator Account The RTAC then prompts you to log in using the account just created. Enter the username and password that you configured in Step 1 to log in. From the RTAC secure web interface, you can now create additional user accounts and change the Ethernet interface settings. Please refer to the dashboard view shown in Figure 10. 10 10 Verify PC Operating System Verify that your computer is running one of the operating system versions listed on the first page of this guide. ACSELERATOR RTAC software has been tested and verified for installation only on those operating systems. Also verify that your computer has at least version 4 of Microsoft.NET Framework. ACSELERATOR RTAC uses Microsoft.NET Framework as a supporting interface for portions of the application user interface. If you need assistance, refer to Testing and Troubleshooting on page 11 of this guide, where you will find detailed instructions for determining your PC operating system and.net versions. Install ACSELERATOR RTAC ACSELERATOR RTAC software provides a configuration and monitoring interface for the RTAC family of controllers. The application has tools for creating all of the communication-based connections and custom logic for an RTAC. ACSELERATOR RTAC is a required tool for creating RTAC projects. If you have the installation CD that was shipped with the SEL-3555 RTAC, perform the following steps: Step 1. Ensure that all software applications are closed. Step 2. Place the CD in the computer CD/DVD-ROM drive. Step 3. If Windows autorun is enabled, the file will load automatically. If Windows autorun is not enabled, run setup.bat from the CD. Step 4. Click on the link for ACSELERATOR RTAC software in the window that appears. Step 5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Step 6. Close the window when the installation is complete. NOTE: Internet access will be required to download ACSELERATOR RTAC from the SEL website. Use ACSELERATOR RTAC The software is also available as a free download from the SEL website at Testing and Troubleshooting on page 11 provides instructions for performing the download. Now the system is ready to start creating RTAC projects. To send the projects from ACSELERATOR RTAC software to your converted RTAC, you will need the PC connected via Ethernet as described in Ethernet Web Access on page 8. Step 1. Double-click on the ACSELERATOR RTAC icon on your Windows desktop or select the application from the Start menu. Step 2. When prompted, log in using the default username (admin) and password (TAIL). These credentials are different from the account you created on the RTAC in the previous section. The RTAC and the software each manage accounts independently. Step 3. As shown in Figure 11, access the instruction manual via the help icon in the upper right corner of the application window. 11 Testing and Troubleshooting Overview Use the data and procedural information this section provides for aid in SEL-3555 Real-Time Automation Controller (RTAC) testing and for troubleshooting performance, communications, and run-time issues. 11 Verify PC Operating System From the Control Panel, select System. Verify that the listed operating system meets the minimum requirements listed on the cover of this guide. ACSELERATOR RTAC software has been tested and verified for installation and operation only on those operating systems. Figure 12 Microsoft Windows 7 System Information Verify Required Supporting Software ACSELERATOR RTAC and some components of the RTAC web interface take advantage of Microsoft.NET software. Microsoft.NET runs as a supporting interface for ACSELERATOR RTAC and many other Windows applications you already use. Therefore, you will not need any special knowledge to use Microsoft.NET. Most new computers ship with the appropriate versions of.net already installed, but it is also freely available from the Microsoft website in case you need to install it. Step 1. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. Step 2. Scroll the resulting window until you find the Microsoft entries, as shown in Figure 13. If you discover that your computer does not have the required version of Microsoft.NET, then browse to to download the latest version. 12 12 Downloading ACSELERATOR RTAC Software NOTE: You will need an SEL website account in order to download the software. You will not immediately have access to download the software after you create an account for the first time. You will receive an (normally within 24 hours) to notify you that access has been granted. Please contact an SEL representative if you need immediate access to the software. Long-Term Storage Updates for ACSELERATOR RTAC software are available on the SEL website. If you already have SEL Compass installed on your computer, perform the following steps: Step 1. Launch Compass and log in. Step 2. Browse to the ACSELERATOR RTAC SEL-5033 Software listing in Compass. Step 3. Run the ACSELERATOR RTAC installation. If you do not have ACSELERATOR Compass, perform the following steps: Step 1. Use a web browser to access in order to directly download the installation software. Step 2. Click Login. Step 3. If you already have an account, enter your credentials and download the software. If you do not have an SEL user account, click the Register link at to create a free account. Follow the onscreen instructions to perform the download and then run the installation program. The SEL-3555 RTAC has a battery to maintain its internal real-time clock. If the unit is not plugged in for a long period of time (e.g., in excess of a year) this battery may become depleted.
