The main software PP and expansion features of D1-10/D3-10 disk array unit are as follows: (1)NEC Storage Manager NEC Storage Manager comprehensively monitors the D Series disk array unit and provides the function of integrated management. NEC Storage Manager is included in the software product Basic Product. Base Product is a mandatory PP, which consists of the software for basic control of disk array unit and the NEC Storage Manager. (2)AccessControl In case multiple servers share a disk array unit, you need to limit the access to logical disk from each server, in order to protect the logical disk from false access/unauthorized access. AccessControl provides the function to determine which logical disk can be connected from the FC port of the disk array unit or HBA port of connected servers, in case of sharing a disk array unit by multiple servers. (3)PathManager This PP provides the redundancy function of the I/O path between server and disk array unit. In case a failure occurs on the I/O path, PathManager switches the path to an alternative I/O path and this enables the I/O to continue. (I/O Path Failover Function) In addition, PathManager realizes the improvement of I/O access performance, by distributing the I/O access between server and disk array to multiple paths. (Load Balancing Function) (4)DynamicDataReplication/ RemoteDataReplication DynamicDataReplication provides the data replication function within the disk array unit. RemoteDataReplication provides the data replication function between the disk array units. As with high-end unit, quick-disconnect of RV and RV protection restore are available. Note: DynamicSnapVolume is not available for the D1-10 Single Controller model. (5)DynamicSnapVolume This PP provides the snapshot function copying only data updated in a disk array unit. With this function, it is possible to reduce disk capacity necessary for backup and realize low-cost backup solution. Note: DynamicSnapVolume is not available for the D1-10 Single Controller model. (6)PerforMate/PerformanceNavigator PerformanceMonitor/PerformanceNavigator is the software for performance monitoring and performance analysis of disk array. In order to prepare for unexpected performance deterioration during operation, introducing these functions is recommended. PerformanceMonitor (Performance monitoring) This PP conducts real-time display of performance information, load monitoring, statistic information storage and others of disk array unit. By introducing this function, you can investigate the cause of access performance deterioration in business server and detect unexpected high access. PerformanceNavigator (Performance analysis) This PP comprehensively shows the performance log collected by PerforMate in a graphics format and displays it to the numerical value. It enables you to grasp the whole status and trend off-line and significantly reduce your administrator s work. (7)VolumeProtect This PP prevents false access and data corruption by setting the access right and data retention period for each volume, and store the data in a format impossible to be falsified for a long time. 5

(8)PerformanceOptimizer This PP provides the function to easily execute the performance analysis and tuning of D3-10 Series, to maintain the comfortable response of business system. By introducing this function, you can conduct difficult performance tuning requiring sophisticated expertise even during business operation and improve the performance of disk array unit. Note: PerformanceOptimizer is not available for D1-10. (9)ReallocationControl ReallocationControl is the software to perform the operation and maintenance of logical disk, such as securing the data of disk array unit shared by multiple servers, initializing as a means of security of data of the logical disk (volume) when it is reused for another purpose, and setting of work disk using performance optimization function for D3-10 disk array unit. In addition, the operation of configuration change can be blocked and the present configuration can be guarded. By using the operation and management of logical disk, user can effectively perform the work of operation and management of logical disk (reconstruction, file relocation, storage and etc.) and can reduce operation TCO. Besides, the user can restrain data corruption and stoppage of service due to human error in the event of configuration change. The operation is easy using the client GUI of the Storage Manager. Note: D1-10 can not use performance optimization function. (10)StoragePowerConserver StoragePowerConserver provides power saving function. The power saving function is to control the breakdown/started operations of the pool to which volume belongs, according to the status of the volume. This function is for the pool not always necessary to be operated. After the completion of read and write to individual volume constructed in pool, it stops using the volume by power saving operation. In case all the volumes in the pool is not in use, the rotation of all the physical disks in the pool stops and the power consumption is reduced. 6

Disk drive - SAS Disk drive 73GB (15,000rpm) [NF5021-SM623E] Disk drive capacity:71.6gb - SAS Disk drive 147GB (15,000rpm) [NF5021-SM624E] Disk drive capacity:142.9gb - SAS Disk drive 300GB (15,000rpm) [NF5021-SM625E] Disk drive capacity:288.0gb - SATA Disk drive 500GB (7,200rpm) [NF5021-SM803E] Disk drive capacity:492.1gb - SATA Disk drive 750GB (7,200rpm) [NF5021-SM805E] Disk drive capacity:738.4gb -SATA Disk drive 1000GB (7,200rpm) x 1 [NF5021-SM806E] Disk drive capacity: 984.4GB - SAS and SATA Disk drives can be mounted together in the same disk enclosure. - Different types of Pool (RAID) can be configured in the same disk enclosure. - In case of the same type of interface of disk drive, you can configure a Pool in combination with different capacity/rotation speed, but to facilitate management, configure with disk drive with the same capacity/the same rotation number. - If you mount together disk drives with different capacity types in a Pool, configure a Pool based disk drive with minimum capacity. In this case, as disk drive with large capacity is treated as disk drive with minimum capacity, you can not use the remaining area. - Likewise, if you mount together disk drives of different rotation speeds in a Pool, configure a Pool based on disk drive with minimum rotation speed. In this case, as disk drive with high rotation speed is treated as disk drive with minimum rotation speed, it does not operate with expected performance. - NEC recommend that the number of the disk drive be up to 24 (for D1-10), up to 60 (for D3-10), when they are used for the high performance system such as data base and mail server. - NEC recommend that you configure RAID using a lot of HDD with small capacity to disperse I/O overhead when it is used for the high performance system such as data base and mail server. [Ex.] Relation between number of HDD and performance in light of capacity (When configuring the same RAID 300GB HDD x 2 RAID1 < 147GB HDD x 4 RAID1 < 73GB HDD x 8 RAID1 *About the description of disk capacity The capacity of disk drive mentioned is the physical capacity calculated based on 1KByte=1000Byte (1GB=1000^3Byte corresponding value). Smaller capacity will be shown on the OS. 19

Hot spare disk - By mounting hot spare disk, it is possible to automatically restore the data to hot spare disk in the event of disk failure. Once the restoration to the hot spare disk is completed, the redundancy will be recovered. - A sign of disk drive failure can be detected in advance by Preventive Maintenance function to move the data to the hot spare disk while maintaining the redundancy before the disk drive fails. Mounting hot spare disk is strongly recommended to enhance the availability of the unit. Especially, when disk drives of large capacity such as 147GB/300GB/500GB/750GB/1000GB are in use, please mount hot spare disk. - Hot spare disk can be added one by one. - Hot spare disk can not be usually used. (It can not be used for the user area.) - There is no limit to the number of mountable hot spare disk. - To operate the function of preventive maintenance mentioned below, the hot spare disk should be set as such. <Conditions> - Hot spare disk functions to the same type of disk drive with the same interface and the same capacity, and the same rotation speed or less. However, in case there are disk drives with multiple capacities and multiple rotation speeds, define hot spare disk with each capacity and rotation speed to facilitate management. - The following are recommendable number of SAS disk drive and SATA disk drive: <Recommended number of hot spare disk of SAS disk drive> Conditions 1 type of HDD capacity/rotation speed n types of HDD capacity/rotation speed Recommended number of hot spare disk 1 unit per 24 HDDs n units per 24 HDDs <Recommended number of hot spare disk of SATA disk drive> Conditions 1 type of HDD capacity n types of HDD capacity Recommended number of hot spare disk 1 unit per 12 HDDs n units per 12 HDDs 21

Hot spare disk operation By mounting hot spare disk, in case 1 disk of logical disk fails, the data of failed disk can be regenerated from other disks in the logical disk, and restored to hot spare disk. -The default settings of hot spare disk are data change back. After the hot spare disk with large capacity/high rotation speed functions to the disk drive with small capacity/low rotation speed and completes to restore the data to the hot spare disk, and if it replaces the failed disk with a normal disk, the replaced disk is defined as the hot spare disk. In this case, please note that the capacity/rotation speed of the hot spare disk is changed from the original hot spare disk. -If you set the hot spare disk operation to data change back, the capacity/rotation speed of defined hot spare disk is not changed because the data is changed back to the disk drive after replacing the failed disk. Meanwhile, you can set the hot spare disk operation from WebSAM istoragemanager. -The hot spare disk is used in the following order of priority based on the disk drive of minimum capacity/minimum rotation speed when configuring a Pool: 1. Hot spare disk with the same capacity/the same rotation speed 2. Hot spare disk with the same rotation speed or more (In case multiple rotation speeds exist, low rotation speed has priority.) 3. Hot spare disk with the same capacity or more (In case multiple capacities exist, small capacity has priority.) Preventive maintenance Preventive maintenance function is to automatically perform background copy to hot spare drive, monitoring a sign of failure of disk drive before a failure occurs and maintaining redundancy. This function enhances the availability of the unit, enabling the preventive maintenance of the disk drive. Meanwhile, mounting the hot spare disk is required to operate preventive maintenance. Schedule maintenance (Multi hot spare disk function*) If you perform schedule maintenance (multi hot spare disk function*), select the number of hot spare in accordance with the interval of regular maintenance. *If you use multi hot spare disk function, you need to introduce remote maintenance. 22

Pool and Logical Disk (LD) - Pool is a RAID group which consists of multiple disk drives (the same type). - Pool can configure up to 36 Pools (D1-10) per unit or up to 72 Pools (D3-10) per unit. - A Logical Disk (LD) is made from a certain capacity of one Pool. However, it cannot be made across multiple Pools. - The capacity of Pool depends on the capacity and the number of disk drive, and RAID level. - Up to 1024 logical disks can be made in 1 Pool. (D1-10/D3-10 can configure up to 1024 logical disks per unit. ) - The minimum capacity of logical disk is 1GB. - The capacity of the logical disk used by DynamicDataReplication/RemoteDataReplication/ DynamicSnapVolume is up to 2046GB. - The configurable logical disk capacity with S4000/S3000 Series (2.22GB/4.46GB/8.92GB/17.84GB/35.69GB/71.4GB/142.8GB/285.6GB/571.2GB/1142.4GB) can be configured. (For the purpose of RDR between different types) - Basic Pool is RAID-1/RAID-3/RAID-3DP/RAID-5/RAID-10/RAID-50 configurations and Dynamic Pool is RAID-6/RAID-TM/RAID-1 (SAS disk drive) configurations.
