1 INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION COOLING SYSTEM B.Sakthivel 1, B.Sivamuthu Ganesh 2, G.A.Tamizhmani 3, P.Siva 4, S.Isaiarasu 5 Assistant Professor 1, Student 2,3,4,5 Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering Coimbatore Institute of Engineering and Technology ABSTRACT The task of this project has been to model a room with direct heating in the floor and room using Matlab, Simulink. The heating in the floor was turned off during the simulation of this project. The aim of the project has been to keep the temperature in the room within certain, optimal bounds in order to save energy costs. The energy price is assumed constant. From this it follows that the optimal is to find the minimum energy consumption in the system. For the optimization of the system a quadratic programming method was used to find a optimal room temperature that minimizes the energy consumption. INTRODUCTION This project investigates how the energy consumption in buildings and thus the energy costs can be minimized. The temperature in the room is to be varied such that the room is colder when people are not at home. The energy price can be assumed constant or varying. From this the system is to be optimized such that the energy consumption is kept at a minimum value, in order to save energy costs. Buildings are responsible for a big part of the energy use in many countries [Kornevall]. By reducing the energy consumption less energy is needed, which result in less production of energy. The idea is to buy and store energy when the energy price is small, and use it when the energy price is high. This in addition to lower energy consumption gives lower energy costs which is favourable for the consumer. The energy could be stored in the floor or in a water heater. The report consists of six chapters, excluded this chapter and the abstract. The first part of the report gives a description of the model that was used to simulate the room, in addition to the parameters and assumptions that were made. The second part explains the methods that were used in order to simulate the system. The third part gives a summary of how the system was implemented in Matlab, Simulink together with the obtained results. A discussion and conclusion of the results are given in the end, in addition to suggestions and improvements for further work. SYSTEM STRUCTURE and HARDWARE CONNECTION: The major unit of this device is 1.PIC Microcontroller kit 2.LM 35 3.LCD display and the software use of MPLAB. Simplicity and ease, which the higher programming languages bring for program writing as well as broader application of the microcontrollers, was enough to incite some companies as Microengeneering to embark on the development of BASIC programming language. What did we thereby get? Before all, the time of writing was shortened by employment of prepared functions that BASIC brings in (whose programming in assembler would have taken the All Rights Reserved 284

In this way, the programmer can concentrate on solving the essential task without losing his time on writing the code for LCD display. To avoid any confusion in the further text, it is necessary to clarify three terms one encounters very often. Programming language is understood as a set of commands and rules according to which we write the program and therefore we distinguish various programming languages such as BASIC, C, PASCAL etc. On the BASIC programming language the existing literature is pretty extensive so that most of the attention in this book will be dedicated to the part concretely dealing with the programming of microcontrollers. Program consists of sequence of commands of language that our microcontroller executes one after another. The creation of PIC BASIC followed the great success of Basic stamp (small plate with PIC16F84 and serial eeprom that compose the whole microcontroller system) as its modification. PIC BASIC enables the programs written for the original Basic stamp to be translated for the direct execution on the PIC16xxx, PIC17Cxxx and PIC18Cxxx members of the microcontrollers family. By means of PIC BASIC it is possible to write programs for the PIC microcontrollers of the following families PIC12C67x, PIC14C000, PIC16C55x, PIC16C6x, PIC16C7x, PIC16x84, PIC16C9xx, PIC16F62x, PIC16C87x, PIC17Cxxx and PIC 18Cxxx. On the contrary, the programs written in PIC BASIC language cannot be run on the microcontrollers possessing the hardware stack Alphanumeric displays are used in a wide range of applications, including palmtop computers, word processors, photocopiers, point of sale terminals, medical instruments, cellular phones, etc. The 16 x 2 intelligent alphanumeric dot matrix display is capable of displaying 224 different characters and symbols. A full list of the characters and symbols is printed on pages 7/8 (note these symbols can vary between brand of LCD used). This booklet provides all the technical specifications for connecting the unit, which requires a single power supply (+5V). Available as an optional extra is the Serial LCD Firmware, which allows serial control of the display. This option provides much easier connection and use of the LCD module. The firmware enables microcontrollers (and microcontroller based systems such as the PICAXE) to visually output user instructions or readings onto an LCD module. All LCD commands are transmitted serially via a single microcontroller pin. The firmware can also be connected to the serial port of a computer. The LM35 series are precision integrated-circuit temperature devices with an output voltage All Rights Reserved 285
3 proportional to the Centigrade temperature. The LM35 device has an advantage over linear temperature sensors calibrated in Kelvin, as the user is not required to subtract a large constant voltage from the output to obtain convenient Centigrade scaling. The LM35 device does not require any external calibration or trimming to provide typical accuracies of ±¼ C at room temperature and ±¾ C over a full 55 C to 150 C temperature range. Lower cost is assured by trimming and calibration at the wafer level. The low-output impedance, linear output, and precise inherent calibration of the LM35 device makes interfacing to readout or control circuitry especially easy. The device is used with single power supplies, or with plus and minus supplies. As the LM35 device draws only 60 μa from the supply, it has very low self-heating of less than 0.1 C in still air. The LM35 device is rated to operate over a 55 C to 150 C temperature range, while the LM35C device is rated for a 40 C to 110 C range ( 10 with improved accuracy). The LM35-series devices are available packaged in hermetic TO transistor packages, while the LM35C, LM35CA, and LM35D devices are available in the plastic TO-92 transistor package. The LM35D device is available in an 8-lead surface-mount small-outline package and a plastic TO-220 package. 4 1. Create the high level design. From the features and performance desired, decide which PIC MCU or dspic DSC device is best suited to the application, then design the associated hardware circuitry. After determining which peripherals and pins control the hardware, write the firmware the software that will control the hardware aspects of the embedded application. A language tool such as an assembler, which is directly translatable into machine code, or a compiler that allows a more natural language for creating programs, should be used to write and edit code. Assemblers and compilers help make the code understandable, allowing function labels to identify code routines with variables that have names associated with their use, and with constructs that help organize the code in a maintainable structure. 2. Compile, assemble and link the software using the assembler and/or compiler and linker to convert your code into ones and zeros machine code for the PIC MCUs. This machine code will eventually become the firmware (the code programmed into the microcontroller). 3. Test your code. Usually a complex program does not work exactly the way imagined, and bugs need to be removed from the design to get proper results. The debugger allows you to see the ones and zeros execute, related to the source code you wrote, with the symbols and function names from your program. Debugging allows you to experiment with your code to see the value of variables at various points in the program, and to do what if checks, changing variable values and stepping through routines. 4. Burn the code into a microcontroller and verify that it executes correctly in the finished application. TESTING The report consists of six chapters, excluded this chapter and the abstract. CONCLUSION The industrial automation cooling system condition results in the reduced cost-efficient, relatively simple, time-saving and material-saving. Generally, the result indicates that it would be possible to achieve a higher desirability value. Therefore, this could be promising for industrialization.
