5 HARDWARE DESCRIPTION 8085 Intel 8085 is an 8-bit, 40 pin IC package which uses a single +5V DC supply for its operation. The architecture of Intel 8085 consists of three main sections, arithmetic and logic unit, timing and control unit and several registers. There are 3 busses: a 16 bit unidirectional address bus, an 8 bit bidirectional bus and a control bus. The 8085 programming model includes six registers, one accumulator, and one flag register. In addition, it has two 16-bit registers: the stack pointer and the program counter. 4
6 1.16 bit (Memory-mapped I/O) and 8 bit (Peripheral-mapped I/O) In this type of I/O, the MPU uses 16 address lines to identify a 64K of memory addresses. In peripheral-mapped I/O, the MPU use eight address lines which can identify 256 input devices and 256 output devices. 2. Decoding of Ram and Eeprom addresses As 8085 has 16 unidirectional address bus which can mapped with a range of FFFFh, we can decode the addresses of eeprom and ram. We have used ram and eeprom, each 32 Kb of memory. EEPROM:-0000H-7FFFH RAM :-8000H-FFFFH 3. Decoding of M/IO and RD and WR signal These signals are used for reading/writing from an input/output device, so it is necessary to generate 4 signals from 3 signals. We have used 74HCT138N decoder for the following decoding circuit. /WR(C) /RD(B) IO/M(A) /MEMW(Y2) IOW(Y3) /MEMR(Y4) IOR(Y5) 5
7 4. Reset in circuit When reset in switch is pressed, the signal goes low and the charged capacitor is discharged through resistor. The time constant should be larger than 3 clock cycle so that mpu read and reset all external device connected to it. Time constant=r*c =10K*0.1uf = 0.1ms (> 3 clock cycle) 5. SID and SOD in circuit A push button is connected to SID i.e. serial input data line and a led is connected to SOD i.e. serial output data line to check the proper functioning of 8085 hardware. 6

10 DESCRIPTION The project uses the microprocessor 8085 in coherence with an ADC(Analog to Digital convertor) to display the temperature sensed by LM 35 temperature sensor. The value of voltage corresponding to a particular temperature is converted to its digital value from 0 to 255 by the ADC. An interrupt is there forth send to 6.5 which is a level sensitive interrupt pin. The 8085 then uses the code to find out the corresponding value of temperature through the look up table. The seven segment corresponding codes are converted and are shown on the display. LM 35 (TEMPERATURE SENSOR) The LM35 series are precision integrated-circuit temperature devices with an output voltage linearly-proportional to the Centigrade temperature. The LM35 device has an advantage over linear temperature sensors calibrated in Kelvin, as the user is not required to subtract a large constant voltage from the output to obtain convenient Centigrade scaling. The LM35 device does not require any external calibration or trimming to provide typical accuracies of ±¼ C at room temperature and ±¾ C over a full 55 C to 150 C temperature range. Lower cost is assured by trimming and calibration at the wafer level. The low-output impedance, linear output, and precise inherent calibration of the LM35 device makes interfacing to readout or control circuitry especially easy. The device is used with single power supplies, or with plus and minus supplies. As the LM35 device draws only 60 μa from the supply, it has very low self-heating of less than 0.1 C in still air. 9
