3 INTRODUCTION For compatibility between the System 9760 matrix bay (CM9760-MXB) and version or higher of the System 9760 CC1 (CM9760-CC1) software, matrix bay firmware must be version The System 9760 matrix bay firmware upgrade kit, CM9760-BAY-E80, provides the following items to upgrade the firmware to version 8.04: 1 U12 PROM (programmable read-only memory) chip, version 8.04, part number IC chip extraction tool, part number ICPULLERTOOL This document provides instructions to upgrade matrix bay firmware to version C1544M (7/03) 1

4 UPGRADING SYSTEM 9760 MATRIX BAY FIRMWARE CAUTION: Only qualified personnel observing electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions should perform the procedure below. Always wear a grounding strap connected to an approved grounding source when working on or near exposed electronic components. Handle circuit boards by their edges. NOTE: You do not need to turn off power to the System 9760 matrix bay in order to upgrade matrix bay firmware. To upgrade System 9760 matrix bay firmware to version 8.04, do the following: 1. Remove the front panel of the matrix bay by loosening the eight captive panel screws indicated in Figure Remove the video output card from slot 17 of the matrix bay (refer to Figure 2). To remove the card, grasp the two card handles and firmly pull the card out of the connectors on the backplane and associated rear panel card. The video output card slides out of the slot. Note that, unless the audible alarm on the power supply has been disabled, the alarm beeps when the video output card is removed. CAPTIVE PANEL SCREW (4) FRONT PANEL Figure 1. 5 3. Replace the existing U12 PROM chip on the video output card with the chip supplied in the upgrade kit: a. Locate the existing U12 PROM chip on the video output card (refer to Figure 3). b. Using the provided extraction tool, remove the U12 PROM chip from its socket. Remove the chip slowly to avoid damaging the socket. c. Remove the replacement PROM chip from the electrostatic bag. d. Note the alignment notch at the top of the chip (refer to Figure 3). Orient the chip so that the notch on the chip aligns with the notch that is drawn on the surface of the circuit board. Verify pin-to-socket alignment, and then carefully press the chip into its socket until the chip is seated completely. 4. Erase the RAM (random access memory) stored on the U10 chip: a. Locate the existing U10 RAM chip on the video output card (refer to Figure 4). Note the location of the chip in its socket (the top two pins on either side of the socket are not used). b. Using the provided extraction tool, remove the U10 chip from its socket. Remove the chip slowly to avoid damaging the socket. c. Wait two minutes and then reinstall the chip into its socket in the same position noted in step 4a. Verify pin-tosocket alignment, and then carefully press the chip into its socket until the chip is seated completely. ALIGNMENT NOTCH U5 U11 U10 U12 Figure 3. 6 5. Reinstall the video output card into slot 17 of the matrix bay (refer to Figure 2): a. Align the top and bottom edges of the card with the top and bottom card guides of the matrix bay. b. Slide the card toward the rear of the matrix bay until the card is seated firmly with the connectors on the backplane and with the associated rear panel card connector. The audible alarm on the power supply should stop beeping, the Frame Fault power supply LED (light-emitting diode) should turn off, and the LEDs on the video output card should indicate proper operation of the matrix bay. 6. To ensure proper operation of the matrix bay, reset the video output card by pressing the Reset button on the card (refer to Figure 2). For about five seconds, the audible alarm on the power supply beeps and the Frame Fault LED flashes red. Normal operation is established when the audible alarm stops beeping, the Frame Fault LED turns off, and the LEDs on the video output card indicate proper operation of the matrix bay. 7. Reattach the front panel of the matrix bay by tightening the eight captive panel screws. 4 C1544M (7/03)

7 PRODUCT WARRANTY AND RETURN INFORMATION WARRANTY Pelco will repair or replace, without charge, any merchandise proved defective in material or workmanship for a period of one year after the date of shipment. Exceptions to this warranty are as noted below: Five years on FT/FR8000 Series fiber optic products. Three years on Genex Series products (multiplexers, server, and keyboard). Three years on Camclosure and fixed camera models, except the CC3701H-2, CC3701H-2X, CC3751H-2, CC3651H-2X, MC3651H-2, and MC3651H-2X camera models, which have a five-year warranty. Two years on standard motorized or fixed focal length lenses. Two years on Legacy, CM6700/CM6800/CM9700 Series matrix, and DF5/DF8 Series fixed dome products. Two years on Spectra, Esprit, ExSite, and PS20 scanners, including when used in continuous motion applications. Two years on Esprit and WW5700 Series window wiper (excluding wiper blades). Two years (except lamp and color wheel) on Digital Light Processing (DLP ) displays. The lamp and color wheel will be covered for a period of 90 days. The air filter is not covered under warranty. Eighteen months on DX Series digital video recorders, NVR300 Series network video recorders, and Endura Series distributed network-based video products. One year (except video heads) on video cassette recorders (VCRs). Video heads will be covered for a period of six months. Six months on all pan and tilts, scanners or preset lenses used in continuous motion applications (that is, preset scan, tour and auto scan modes). Pelco will warrant all replacement parts and repairs for 90 days from the date of Pelco shipment. All goods requiring warranty repair shall be sent freight prepaid to Pelco, Clovis, California. Repairs made necessary by reason of misuse, alteration, normal wear, or accident are not covered under this warranty. Pelco assumes no risk and shall be subject to no liability for damages or loss resulting from the specific use or application made of the Products. Pelco s liability for any claim, whether based on breach of contract, negligence, infringement of any rights of any party or product liability, relating to the Products shall not exceed the price paid by the Dealer to Pelco for such Products. In no event will Pelco be liable for any special, incidental or consequential damages (including loss of use, loss of profit and claims of third parties) however caused, whether by the negligence of Pelco or otherwise. The above warranty provides the Dealer with specific legal rights. The Dealer may also have additional rights, which are subject to variation from state to state. If a warranty repair is required, the Dealer must contact Pelco at (800) or (559) to obtain a Repair Authorization number (RA), and provide the following information: 1. Model and serial number 2. Date of shipment, P.O. number, Sales Order number, or Pelco invoice number 3. Details of the defect or problem If there is a dispute regarding the warranty of a product which does not fall under the warranty conditions stated above, please include a written explanation with the product when returned. Method of return shipment shall be the same or equal to the method by which the item was received by Pelco. RETURNS In order to expedite parts returned to the factory for repair or credit, please call the factory at (800) or (559) to obtain an authorization number (CA number if returned for credit, and RA number if returned for repair). All merchandise returned for credit may be subject to a 20% restocking and refurbishing charge. Goods returned for repair or credit should be clearly identified with the assigned CA or RA number and freight should be prepaid. Ship to the appropriate address below.
