7 Paradyne Student Guide GranDSLAM 4.X Features and Functions Port 1 (eth1) Out of Band management port only. Connected physically and logically only to the IP/SCP. Port 2 & 3 (eth2 & 3) Can be used for either customer data as well as in-band management traffic. Eth2 is a copper 10/100meg connection Eth3 is either copper or fiber GigE connection (1000) only By default eth2, eth3 and all of the DSL ports are all assigned to VLAN 1. The switch cannot filter on well know IP port numbers. The switch can be configured so that each DSL port can have up to 8 VPI/VCI connections. Each VPI/VCI can be assigned to a unique VLAN. Each ATM connection / VLAN can be assigned different levels of priority (8 highest, 1 lowest). All ATM traffic over the DSL link is UBR. End to end quality of service is done through VLAN groups using the eight port queues (ATM queue number). Revision Paradyne Corporation Page 7

9 Paradyne Student Guide GranDSLAM 4.X Features and functions (continued) The IP/SCP is designed to fit into the following networks: Private MTU Networks and Telco Networks Video applications can only be supported by the 8965 ADSL (this is due to the fact that video applications require a minimum of 3.5 to 4 Meg connection per video stream). There are three different modes of operation for the internal layer 2 switch. These modes of operation are mutually exclusive. By default all Ethernet switches must have at least one group or VLAN that is active. In the case of the IP/SCP VLAN 1 is active for Secure VLAN and Switch modes of operation. In the case of Uplink Tagging each DSL port is assigned a unique VLAN. Secure VLAN This is the default mode of operation, which performs security between DSL ports. All traffic from a DSL port is directed to the uplink. There is an additional Ethernet management port, which is for out of band management for the unit, which has a default IP address of Switch Mode This is basic Ethernet switching where all ports have equal access. Uplink Tagging The default for this mode is that each DSL port is assigned to a unique VLAN and that the uplink will be using 802.1Q tagging to distinguish between ports. 11 Paradyne Student Guide GranDSLAM 4.X Triple Play Network 802.1P The IP network that is connected to the IP/SCP must support both 802.1Q tagging (where multiple logical connections are supported by a single physical connection), and 802.1P which is prioritizing of traffic over Ethernet. This network will have connections to the following devices and or networks: Video middleware server supplies the STB with code and channel guide Multicast head end supplies the MPEG encoded live content VOD servers supplies the local VOD server with additional pay per view MPEG video content VoIP Gateway / Softswitch supplies the voice connection back to the PSTN Internet ISP supplies the high speed Internet connection SNMP Management control for the CO connected devices Ethernet switch must support the following: 802.1P prioritization 802.1Q (Cisco refers to this as trunking) a minimum of four VLANs are required to support triple play (Video [multicast and unicast], voice and Internet) IGMP Version 2 IGNP querier sends an IGMP multicast query to the STB to see if a multicast channel is still being used (this would only be used on the port going to the 4200IP/2600 VOD Server this can supply either all of the VOD content or it can supply only a portion of the VOD content. The portion of the VOD content could be anything from a video clip to a portion of the movie. This is based on multiple factors, first is that in some cases content providers require you to pay royalties based on the number of copies of a video, how big and how many servers do you want to deploy, and how much bandwidth do you have available with in your network. IP/SCP Ethernet Port 802.1P will start and stop at this interface and 802.1Q, minimum of four VLANs configured DSL Port will have four VCCs configured each with a different priority (must match the 802.1P from the Ethernet interface), voice having the highest priority CPE must be an Ethernet switch device that supports VCC to Ethernet port mapping. Two VCC connections will be assigned to the port that has the STP attached. These two connections are for the unicast and multicast video streams. STB can be either thin client (HTML) or thick client (JAVA) and must support the following: Middleware server VOD server Multicast headend Revision Paradyne Corporation Page 11

Switch VLAN is where each port has equal access. Uplink Tag Per Port is used in a VBN solution where a unique VLAN is required to identify each port. The VBN server can then cross reference a DSLAM port number to a room number. Revision Paradyne Corporation Page 39

The line coding (Multimode, DMT, G.lite, or ANSI) are defined when a profile is assigned to a port. The reason for this is that these line profiles are used for both ADSL and Reach. 65 Paradyne Student Guide GranDSLAM 4.X Triple Play (Voice, Video and Internet) There are a number of requirements before the triple play solution will operate. Must use a layer 2 switch on the uplink that supports 802.1Q tagging (Cisco s term for this is 802.1Q trunking). Prioritization of user traffic by 802.1p is required from the source of the user traffic to the uplink on the IP/SCP. The IP/SCP will then use the internal prioritization queues to replicate the prioritization to the subscriber. The IP/SCP cannot be set to Uplink Tagging. Initial testing should be done with the IP/SCP set to switch to simplify testing and troubleshooting. Must have an Ethernet Layer 2 switch ADSL CPE that supports port VLANs (VCC to a unique Ethernet port). Comtrend makes 4-port units that do this. We are working with ASUS to make a similar unit. The following are the steps that you will need to do to configure the IP/SCP for this application: 1. Set the Bridge mode to Switch or Secure VLAN 2. Modify all ADSL ports to fast mode or the lowest setting for interleaved mode (required for Voice). The software in the IP/SCP has changed in regards to s=1/2. If older code fast, if newer code interleaved = Enable IGMP Snooping on all ports. If the multicast server is not directly attached to the same switch as the IP/SCP then enable Proxy Query. Create a VPI/VCI connection for responding to IGMP queries. 4. Create 3 New VLANs (use the ATM connection numbers to prioritize traffic). Assign all DSL (8 voice, 4 video and 2 internet) ports as untagged members and the Ethernet uplink as the tagged member. 5. Create the three DSL connections for all ports: a. Under DSL Configuration select 8 for Connection (priority) b. Enter the VPI/VCI to be used for Voice (8 is the highest priority connection). c. Enter the VLAN number that corresponds to application for PVID d. Select 802.1p for Queue Method. e. Perform this same function for video and internet connections (4 for video and 2 for internet) VLANs and tagging can also be used to create private connections between DSL ports. Modifying a selected DSL port in the VLAN table and assigning the same VLAN to both DSL ports is how you do this. Revision Paradyne Corporation Page 65
