3 CIB 3129 Processor Module The Processor Module contains the microprocessor that controls the system s programs and features (such as Automatic Route Selection and Group Paging. The numbered paragraphs that follow describe the numbered items on the three types of processor modules, 517A7, 517B7, and 517C7 shown in Figure A7 517B7 517C7 FIGURE 1 Processor Modules 517A7, 517B7, and 517C7 1 Station Message Detail Recording (SMDR) jack Connect a 1200-baud serial printer (AT&T 475/476, 572, or equivalent), a Z200A Electromagnetic Inteference (EMI) FiIter and a 355AF Adapter to the SMDR jack so that the system can provide SMDR call reports. Refer to the information under Connecting a Printer to Obtain SMDR Call Reports. 1

4 RS-232 I/O port Not for use at this time. Red warning Iight This Iight goes on to indicate that the system is experiencing a problem It also goes on for a few seconds when your MERLIN II system s power is turned on and during some administration procedures. Feature Module Identification labei This label identifies the feature module installed in the processor module. Diagnostic Module connector The Diagnostic Module tests and isolates problems in all modules except the Power Module. Refer to the instructions in ClB 31 to connect the Diagnostic Module to the Processor Module. Installing the Processor Module The processor module must be installed in slot 0 of the basic carrier. Before you install the processor module, the feature module must be Inserted into it. For further information regarding either of these Installations, refer to Installing the System in your MERLIN II System Manual of your MERLIN II Communications System Installation, Administration, and Maintenance Manual. SQUARE (KEY) SYSTEMS Although you can set the system type to be operated as a square system, some customer sites may require that the hardware of the system be modified for square system operation. If your system is required to operate solely as a square (key) system and not be administered for pooled operation, you need to make the following modifications before you can install the processor module. Refer to the appropriate paragraphs depending on the type of processor module you have. NOTE: These installations are for qualified Technicians only. Technician qualification includes completion of an AT&T handson instructor led course covering installation and maintenance of this product. The use of this document by anyone else might void the warranty. 2

5 Modifying Your 517A7 Processor Module for Square (Key) Systems CAUTlON: The processor Module must not be installed in the carrier and the Feature Module should be removed. Be sure to follow proper electrostatic discharge precautions. Refer to the MERLIN II Installation. Administration and Maintenance Manual for more information on either item Open the processor module s case by releasing the seven snaps located around the edges of the case (Figure 2). Notice the two headers marked AA on the module's processor board. One header is located at the bottom right of the module; the other header is Iocated at the center right. Do not touch the header at the bottom. On the header at the center right of the module, locate the strap (blue plug) attached to one of the pins. Remove the strap (blue plug) from the single header pin, then reinsert it to cover both pins on the header. Snap modules halves back together. Locate the KF (Key Function) label that came with the wall mount carrier label kit and affix it to the wire manager at the base of the module. Center header AA Wire Manager Bottom header AA Do not touch. FIGURE 2 Attaching the strap (blue plug) to both pins of the center AA header 3

6 Modifying Your 517B7 or 517C7 Processor Module for Square (Key) Systems CAUTION: The Processor Module must not be installed in the carrier and the Feature Module should be removed. Be sure to follow proper electrostatic discharge precautions. Refer to the MERLIN II Installation, Administration and Maintenance Manual for more information on either item. 1 Before you insert the feature module, orient the processor module case as shown in Figure 3. Do not open the processor module case. 2 Notice the two headers marked HD1 and HD2 on the module's processor board. One header is located at the bottom of the opening (HD2); the other header is located at the top of the opening (HD1). Do not touch the header at the bottom. 3 On the header close to the top of the opening, locate the strap (blue plug) attached to one of the pins. 4 Remove the strap (blue plug) from the single header pin, then reinsert it to cover both pins on the header. 5 Locate the KF (Key Function) label that came with the wall mount carrier label kit and affix it to the wire manager at the base of the module. 7 CONNECTING A PRINTER TO OBTAIN SMDR CALL REPORTS To connect a printer to your processor module, you need the following items: 1200-baud serial printer (AT&T 475/476, or 572 equivalent) Z200A Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Filter 355AF Adapter (If you have an AT&T 475/476 or equivalent printer with a male connector on its interface cable) or 355A Adapter (if your printer has a female connector on its interface cable). CAUTION: If the printer is located more than 50 feet from the control unit, or if the printer and the control unit are not plugged into the same ac outlet, refer to the MERLIN II Installation. Administration. and Maintenance Manual for additional Instructions. 1 2 Insert the processor module in slot 0 of the basic carrier. Follow the Instructions in your system manual or installation and administration manual. The system power should be off. See the MERLIN II Installation, Administration, and Maintenance Manual for the correct powerdown sequence. Locate the Z200A EMI Filter. Notice that the filter is closer to one end of the cord than the other Plug the end of the cord closest to the filter into the SMDR jack of the processor module. NOTE: Refer to Figure 1 for the location of the SMDR jack on your processor module. 5
