ICE 10 Patch 6 In ICE 10 Patch 6 users will now find General Enhancements and New Features in certain ICE Applications: The Control Editor Users of The Control Editor under TSO/ISPF will now be able to take full advantage of the following z/os System Administration Productivity Enhancements: 1) An Automatic comparison of a member selected from the TSO/ISPF member selection list will now be made with the last stored version of said member found in the TCE Control Journals. If a member- to- member change is detected, two actions are possible: First, the current state of the selected member is automatically recorded in the TCE Control Journal as a new member backup with the META notation, Detected Change. Second, an optional Pop- Up message can be displayed to alert the user that a change has been detected and that a new member backup has been taken. The control NSEJRNxx syntax for this optional Pop- Up is as follows: DETCHNGNOTIFY CAT(category.name) ON OFF 2) A set of TCE specific Commands can now be entered on the command line during a TSO/ISPF Edit Session. They include: RESTORE: When RESTORE (R) is entered a listing of all available Member Restore Points, found in the TCE Control Journal, for the selected Member is displayed. A user would next select a specific Restore Point to STAGE a Restore of the Member back to the selected Restore Point. The actual Restore must be confirmed when the user exits from the TSO/ISPF Edit Session back to the Member Listing. If the Restore is not confirmed the STAGED Restore Point is voided. HISTORY: When HISTORY (H) is entered an interactive ISPF Worksheet Timeline displaying Edit Events, Detected Changes, Submit Events and Command Events specific to the selected Member is displayed. A user would next select a specific interval to display a listing of events that occurred NewEra Software, Inc. z/os System Management Solutions 1
within the interval. From the Event Listing users can drill- down into specific event detail. INSPECT: When a user is editing a VALID z/os Parmlib member they may enter INSPECT (I) to call the NewEra Inspection Server. The Server in turn will perform a Component Inspection of the selected Member. Results of the Inspection are immediately displayed detailing Inspection Findings. User is returned to the TSO/ISPF Edit session following an Inspection by pressing PFK3. This process can be executed iteratively and does not require a license of Image FOCUS. JCLSCAN: When a user is editing a VALID Job Control Language (JCL) member they may enter JSCAN (J) to call the z/os JCL Internal Reader to scan their work. In this process the required TYPERUN=SCAN notation is automatically added to a copy of the member before the copy is passed to the Reader. This process can be executed iteratively and the actual member is not changed in any way by this process itself. PROCSCAN: When a user is editing a VALID z/os Procedure (PROC) member they may enter PSCAN (P) to call the NewEra PROC Scanner. This Scanner resolves internal symbols, validates syntax, PROC construction and, to the extent made possible by shared DASD, the availability of referenced Datasets. 3) TCE System Administrators now enjoy additional control of the appearance and operation flow of TCE in the TSO/ISPF Environment. Specifics include: The TCE inline Edit Event Descriptors, completed by users during an Edit Session, are now fully functional ISPF Panels. Samples of these optional panels are delivered with the intent that they be customized by the Administrator to suit the specific needs of the organization. The older style, Edit Macro Descriptors will continue to be supported. When an ISPF Panel is used as a Descriptor the various Data Field values supported by TCE, whether populated and displayed in the panel or not, may now be passed along to other programmatic processes as Rexx Variables, as the TSO/ISPF user exits the panel. The TCE Administrator may now suppress the Descriptor Completion Pop- Up that is normally displayed when the user Exits the Descriptor Panel. This is accomplished by setting the value of optional CONF keyword that appears within the DESCPNL syntax control statement to N. DESCPNL CAT(category.name) PNL(pnlname) BPC(c) CONF(Y N) NewEra Software, Inc. z/os System Management Solutions 2
When TCE is configured to intercept the occurrence of a specific System Message based on Message ID the Administrator may now specify the single Wild- Card character * as the Message Severity. This will result in a message match regardless of the actual severity of the message. The Supplementals, The ICE Viewer and IPLCheck Users of the NewEra Supplementals, The ICE Viewer and IPLCheck will benefit from new features and applications: The IODF analysis and exploration Tool, StepOne, has been enhanced to afford its users the ability to create and store Baselines of the Input/Output Control Program (IOCP) configuration that defines the hardware components that make up a specific zenterprise Class Processor. Following the creation of the Baseline, StepOne will automatically determine if a Baseline has changed. User may explore identified changes using a combination of Text Reports and Interactive ISPF Worksheets. Change Reports may be stored, printed or ed to co- workers on demand. User of IPLCheck Family of Predictive Failure Analysis Applications will benefit from the added change detection function now found in the optional Image Manager application. To activate the Image Manager you must first identify to it existing or new IPLCheck Production and Alternate configurations by LPAR. With this information The Image Manager will next create three distinct Image Configuration Baselines for each identified LPAR, one baseline each for the Production and Alternate configurations as discovered (The Moving Baselines) and a startup Snapshot of LPAR Environment as it exists immediately following the most recent IPL (The Fixed Baseline). This results in five unique Compare Points: 1. Production Settings vs. Production Baseline 2. Production Settings vs. Production Snapshot 3. Alternate Settings vs. Alternate Baseline 4. Alternate Settings vs. Alternate Snapshot 5. Production Settings vs. Alternate Settings With each execution changes, if any, are identified and reported via or text against 10 specific LPAR Profiles: 1. Inspection Findings 2. Health Checker Status 3. Runtime Diagnostics 4. Prevailing Parmlib Members NewEra Software, Inc. z/os System Management Solutions 3
5. Member Content 6. System Modules (LPA, LNK, APF) 7. System Datasets 8. System Volumes 9. TCE Change Events 10. Dynamic Changes (LPA, LNK, APF, SYM, TSO Commands/Programs) Upon the identification of changes the Image Manager may be configured to optionally send notification of the change to a designated set of recipients. Notifications sent via may include, as an attachment, either a Summary of Changes or a Full Detail Change Report. Notices sent via Text (SMS) will include a pointer to the Full Detail Change Report. Notices sent via WTOR will include a single line of text indicating process findings. All LPARs under surveillance by the Image Manager and all of their Change Reports and Findings may be accessed from a single Access Point configured in the ICE Viewer. 4) In addition to these features and enhancements the following general corrections were made to The Image Control Environment (ICE). Case Corrected a duplicate message for IFO0687W that was being issued twice for BPXPRMxx Datasets. Case 1362 Corrected an Issue with IPLCheck Dynamic Inspection creating temporary datasets Case 1375 Corrected a reported Issue with a memory leak with IPLCheck. Case 1378 Corrected an Issue where we were reporting incorrectly for Secondary Allocations. Case 1379 Added support for TSOASMGR parameter in the CEAPRMxx member. Case 1381 Added support for TIMESLICE parameter in the IEAAPPxx member. Case 1382 Added a new Warning message for the TELNET Inspector if multiple BEGINVTAM and TELNET blocks are present reporting that the last ones will be used. Case Added support for multiple keywords in the XPARMLIB Inspector for IORPRMxx member. NewEra Software, Inc. z/os System Management Solutions 4
Case 1384 Increased the COUPLExx member for Max Devices statements from 64 to Case 1388 in MSTRJCL we changed the way we flagged SYS1.NUCLEUS message. Case 1390 Added extra checks when running an inspection for the IEASYSxx member check for Illegal Blanks. Case 1391 Added support for VIT Groups in the VTAM Inspector. Case 1392 Added support to allow multiple /* statements on a single line for the JES Inspector. Case Increased the LISTLEVEL parameter for the FTP Inspector.
