1 INTRODUCTION These are enhanced instruction set to install RaspberryPints on a Raspberry Pi 2 Model B with use of an AlaMode card and Flow Meters from AdaFruit.com. I started with instruction set here: After running into several installation issues, I've kept track of the alternate commands and steps that I aggregated from the RaspberryPints forum here: Due to incompatibility with Stretch version of Debian, you will want to install RasberryPints on a "Jessie" version of prior. The issue is that the Stretch version is built for PHP7, which is not compatible with the design of RasberryPints. To avoid the PHP7 conflicts use this OS image: STEP 1 - Parts List: Follow parts list instructions as originally given Use Raspberry Pi 2 Model B: Use AdaFruit flow meters: STEP 2 - OS Installation: Download NOOBS from here: NOTES: 1) DO NOT install the OS onto the Pi with a network cable plugged in. The install process might pull down current OS version updates instead of having a true Jessie version installation.

2 2) If you are using a USB Wireless Network adapter, I recommend that it is plugged in PRIOR to starting the OS installation. The hardware could be setup automatically recognized and configured for you during OS installation. Continue OS installation as described here STEP 3 - OC Configuration: The configuration settings are all valid on the RPints web site. Follow instructions here: STEP 4 - Package installation: Start with updating current packages with these commands in succession: sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade Install the LAMP stack and modules necessary to run Flow Meterswith these commands in succession: sudo apt-get install apache2 apache2-utils sudo apt-get install php5 libapache2-mod-php5 php5-xcache php5-mysql php5-curl php5-cli sudo apt-get install mysql-client mysql-server Setup of mysql-server will prompt for creation of MySQL root user password. WRITE IT DOWN. DO NOT FORGET THE PASSWORD The password is needed in later phpmyadmin installation steps

3 sudo a2enmod headers sudo a2enmod rewrite Configure Apache and PHP parameters and permissions sudo nano /etc/apache2/apache2.conf In this file, Change AllowOverride under <Directory /var/www/> from None to All sudo service apache2 restart sudo service mysql restart sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/html sudo chmod -R 775 /var/www/html Also add the admin user account pi to www-data group: sudo usermod -ag www-data pi sudo nano /var/www/phpinfo.php Add these lines, save and exit: <?php?> phpinfo(); sudo apt autoremove The previous command is just a cleanup step. Any errors can be ignored.

4 sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin During this phpmyadmin install, 1) you will be prompted for the web service to get configured automatically. The choices are apache2 and lighttpd. Chose apache2 since we were installing it anyway. 2) you will be prompted to configure the database with dbconfig-common. Choose YES. 3) you will be prompted for the root MySQL password. This is the password you were instructed to WRITE DOWN previously. cd /var/www/html sudo ln -s /usr/share/phpmyadmin phpmyadmin sudo nano /etc/apache2/apache2.conf Add the following line to the bottom of the apache2.conf file. Save and Exit. Include /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart sudo apt-get install arduino python-serial python-mysqldb xdotool sudo apt-get install chromium-browser sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer x11-xserver-utils unclutter STEP 5 - Package Configuration Disable Screen blanking sudo vi /home/pi/.config/lxsession/lxde-pi/autostart Add the following lines at the bottom:

5 @xset s s --incognito --start-fullscreen localhost Reboot sudo reboot STEP 6 - Configure Pi for Flow Meters Download the AlaMode setup bundle: wget Unpack and install the alamode setup package: tar -xvzf alamode-setup.tar.gz cd alamode-setup sudo apt-get install dos2unix sudo dos2unix jessie-setup sudo./jessie-setup Set Pi boot configuration to correctly access the Alamode. sudo nano /boot/config.txt Add this to end of file, save, exit: enable_uart=0 NOTE: This previous line may need adjusted when you get to STEP 9. I have found multiple posts in the forum referencing the value of this line

6 needs to be either 0 or 1. I was successful with 0. STEP 7 - RaspberryPints Installation Delete the default apache page sudo rm /var/www/html/index.html If you get an error message stating that the file was not found, you can safely disregard the error. Download the most recent Raspberry Pints code from here: In your terminal window, browse to the location of the downloaded zip file and run these commands to unzip the files and move them to the web host folder: unzip RaspberryPints zip sudo mv RaspberryPints-2.0.1/* /var/www/html/ Update Permissions to the RPints files sudo chmod -R 777 /var/www sudo chmod -R 777 /var/www/html Edit the Flow Monitor script to reference the correct RPINTS web host folder. (This is needed as the default web host folder has changed since RPINTS was developed) sudo nano /var/www/html/python/flow_monitor.py

7 poursdir = '/var/www' Modify the line to read this: poursdir = '/var/www/html' path = '/var/www/includes/pours.php' Modify it to read this: path = '/var/www/html/includes/pours.php' Save and exit editing flow_monitor.py IF you are using AdaFruit flow meters, you need to edit the pulse count variables to more accurately register ounces poured. There are 2 files that need configuration for this. sudo nano /var/www/html/arduino/raspberrypints/raspberrypints.ino if ( pulsecount > 100 ) { Modify it to read this: if ( pulsecount > 35 ) Save and exit raspberrypints.ino sudo nano /var/www/html/includes/pours.php $amount = $PULSE_COUNT / 21120;

8 Modify it to read this: $amount = $PULSE_COUNT / 1700; Save and exit pours.php Reboot sudo reboot STEP 8 - RASPBERRY PINTS configuration Open this web page to begin the automated RPINTS application and database configuration: Follow original instructions as listed on this page: After the automated configuration, reboot and verify that the the RPINTS web page automatically loads on boot: sudo reboot If web page correctly displays on reboot, we will now shutdown to prepare the AlaMode setup and configuration. sudo shutdown -h now STEP 9 - Connect and Configure AlaMode board and Flow Meters With the power off, attach the AlaMode board to the Raspberry PI. To Power the Alamode and the rpi, set the 5V_link jumper to ON. View image below. This allows you to connect power to the alamode board to power both the alamode and the rpi. This is important as the flow meters will draw more power than the rpi can safely supply via GPIO

9 At this point, DO NOT connect the Flow meters to the AlaMode board yet. Having them connected now could cause errors during the board programming step. Power on the system by connecting power to the AlaMode board directly. Once fully booted up, close the web browser and open a terminal window. Disable this service: sudo systemctl stop serial-getty@ttyama0.service sudo systemctl disable serial-getty@ttyama0.service

10 Backup and and then configure the following file: sudo cp /boot/cmdline.txt /boot/cmdline.txt.bak sudo nano /boot/cmdline.txt Find and delete this text from the file: console=serial0,15200 sudo reboot Once fully rebooted, close the web browser. From the GUI, go to the Applictaino Menu -> Programming -> Arduino This opens a program for programming the AlaMode. Click File -> Open Browse to and open: /var/www/html/arduino/raspberrypints/raspberrypints.ino Edit line "const unint8_t numsensors = 4; with the number of taps you have Edit line "uint8_t pulsepin[]={8,9,10,11}; with the pin numbers assigned to the flow meters. MAKE A NOTE OF THE PINS AND TAPS you will need this information later. Save the.ino file but do not close Go to Tools -> Boards and select Alamode Go to Tools->Serial and click the box for the serial connection (there should only be one) If there is no selection for the serial connection, you may need to return to STEP 6 to modify /boot/config.txt so that enable_uart=1 In the menu bar there is a button that is a circle with an arrow in it -> Click that button to compile and upload the ino file to the Alamode board.

11 This is important, the alamode needs the code uploaded to it in order to read the flow meters. If you add meters you have to recompile and reupload. Shutdown the Raspberry PI and attach your flow meters. To connect the flow meter to the alamode: Pin1(red) -> Ground Pin2 (middle)-> Any digital pin Be sure to set this at the top of the Arduino code Pin3 -> VIN Here are example pictures of Flow Meters connected to the Alamode board: Power on the system by connecting power to the AlaMode board directly. Once fully booted up, close the web browser and open a terminal window.

12 cd /var/www/html/python sudo nano /var/www/html/python/flowmon DIR=/var/www/python Modify it to read this: DIR=/var/www/html/python Save and close flowmon file sudo nano /var/www/html/python/flow_meter.py poursdir = '/var/www/' Modify it to read this: poursdir = '/var/www/html' path = '/var/www/includes/pours.php' Modify it to read this: path = '/var/www/html/includes/pours.php' Safe and close flow_meter.py Now we are ready to start the python script and ensure it starts during reboots. sudo cp flowmon /etc/init.d sudo chmod a+x /etc/init.d/flowmon sudo /etc/init.d/flowmon start

13 Testing Flow Meter program and reads via this: ps aux grep flow_monitor.py The previous command should return line similar to this: pi ? S 15:35 0:00 /usr/bin/python /home/pi/raspberrypints/python/flow_monitor.py pi pts/0 S+ 15:43 0:00 grep color=auto flow_monitor.py sudo update-rc.d flowmon defaults sudo reboot STEP 10 RPINTS Administration setup In your browser, browse to Alternatively, you can also access the page from any machine on your network by browsing to Address of Pi>/admin Follow setup instructions as listed here:
