IBM System z Introduction June, 2009 IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 FAQ Frequently Asked Questions PartnerWorld for Developers Community

IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 This document is a supplement to existing materials/ websites available publicly: z/os Installation and Migration IBM System z Lifecycle Charges (SzLC) (used for pricing Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8) Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 Announcement letter dated June 9 th (Announcement section) Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 FAQ The IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 (5638-A01) is new and is specific to z/os V1.8 and is separate from the IBM Lifecycle for z/os V1.7 (5637-A01), which was announced August 12 th 2008 and is specific to z/os V1.7. Why is IBM announcing this Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8? IBM, like its Independent Software Vendor (ISV) partners, has to support its customers. z/os V1.8 customers have asked for extended support for z/os V1.8 in order to complete migrations to z/os V1.9 and V1.10, and IBM is providing that opportunity. The Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 is an announced offer from IBM and as such provides increased visibility and ease of acquisition for this type of service. The Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 helps improve synchronization with the recently announced longer 5 year support windows for IPLA middleware products. After the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.7, customers asked for more flexibility and options for the offer. With the Lifecycle extension for z/os V1.8 IBM is accommodating these requests by providing new terms and conditions. The terms for the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 are new and do not apply to the previous IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.7 offer. What are the new terms for the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8? The duration of the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 is more flexible. The terms and conditions and pricing now accommodate single machines, parallel sysplex, as well as differing migration schedules. Terms include: There is a minimum 3-month purchase. The maximum duration is up until September 30, The Lifecycle Extension must be ordered for all machines running z/os V1.8 at a physical location. It can be ordered for an individual IBM z/architecture Machine or for one or more IBM z/architecture

Machines within a qualified Parallel Sysplex (in which case MSU aggregation may apply) You may add any number of machines running z/os V1.8 and have your future invoices adjusted accordingly. You may cancel any number of machines at any time as long as you meet the minimum time period of 3 months. For example, you may cancel one or all machines and terminate all Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 invoices all at once. Or, you may cancel one machine at a time and have your future invoices adjusted accordingly. It is your responsibility to notify IBM if: o the permanent MSUs change for any IBM z/architecture Machine running z/os V1.8 o you add or remove an IBM z/architecture Machine that is running z/os V1.8 o you add or remove z/os V1.8 from any IBM z/architecture Machine You must notify IBM within the same calendar month that the changes occur as these changes may affect the pricing for that Machine or qualified parallel sysplex. How is the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 different from other extended service offers from IBM? The Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 is an announced fee-based corrective services offer under product number 5638-A01 from IBM Systems and Technology Group -- other than that, it is similar to extended support services offered by IBM Global Services either now or in the past. The corrective service provided by the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 is the same as for the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.7. If IBM has had previous offerings for extended support through IBM Global Services, why provide extended corrective service for z/os 1.8 (and z/os 1.7) through the IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os rather than IBM Global Services? When first announced, the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.7 was a completely new process and direction for z/os. The Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.7 was accepted by customers, and improved upon. As a result, IBM is continuing this offer of fee-based extended corrective service to z/os V1.8. Is the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 available to z/os.e V1.8? No. The z/os.e product offering as a whole is no longer marketed by IBM. IBM has provided a pricing alternative for z/os.e, z/os under System z New Application License Charges (znalc). znalc replaces New Application License Charges (NALC) and z/os.e, and is intended to be IBM s strategic z/os offering for new workloads. Contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner for details. Will there be an on-going bucket of preventive service available? No. The support provided by the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 services offer is for corrective service only. The corrective service is only provided to companies (customers, ISVs, System

Integrators, etc.) who have purchased the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8. The corrective service is provided on a one-off basis, that is, only companies who have experienced a suspected defect in z/os 1.8 code and who have the extension can receive the appropriate corrective service (which would be a fix, bypass, or restriction to the problem). Corrective service is not shared, nor distributed preventively, and there is no on-going bucket of preventive or corrective fixes for the duration of this offer. From an ISV (and even a customer) perspective, this one-off corrective service should be no different from other fee-based extended corrective service from IBM Global Services offered now or in the past. This is no different from what was provided by the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.7. As an ISV needing to support my customers, how do I get the specific fixes my customer has? The corrective service is not being distributed preventively, not even to companies that have purchased the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8. This type of one-off corrective service support is no different from other fee-based extended support services from IBM Global Services offered now or in the past. This is no different from what was provided by the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.7. If one of my customers receives a fix through the IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 that impacts one of my products how can I get the same fix? IBM has a process to collaborate with ISVs and mutual customers to resolve defects. This collaborative process (summarized below) can be used to support ISV issues with IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8. This collaborative process has worked well with other extended support offers for z/os. In the unlikely event that an IBM fix may have impacted ISV software running at a mutual customer site, the ISV should instruct the customer to open a problem report with IBM describing the situation, the ISV product, and the name and contact method for the ISV rep. The customer should also open a second problem report with the ISV describing the situation, listing the IBM fix, and the name and contact method for the IBM rep. By asking the customer to open two problem reports (one at IBM and one at the ISV) both parties have the opportunity to verify the customer is entitled to the support they are requesting. The IBM rep will work directly with the ISV rep to resolve the problem, when such collaboration is needed. The ISV can not open a problem on behalf of the customer. The ISV need not purchase the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 in order to participate in the collaborative support process. This is no different from what was provided by the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.7. I have stated that I will support my products on supported releases of z/os. If one of my customers calls up with a z/os V1.8 problem, how do I know that customer has the IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 and is entitled to support? It is up to you to decide whether to provide support for those customers on z/os V1.8 after September 30, If you want to limit your z/os V1.8 support to those customers who have purchased the IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8, then your support staff will have to ask the customer if they are

currently licensed for the IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8. If the request for support is with regard to a z/os V1.8 fix applied by the customer and you need information on the fix, then please use the collaborative approach described above. As an ISV, if I choose to enroll in the IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8, pay any associated fees, uncover a defect, receive a fix and adjust my product, how can I get the fix to my customers? To ensure your customers receive appropriate fix from IBM, instruct your customer to open a problem with IBM, and those who have purchased the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 (or other extended support) will obtain the appropriate corrective service support from IBM. Will IBM be announcing Lifecycle Extensions for other releases of z/os? Yes. As a statement of direction, IBM intends to provide an IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os offering for each release of z/os (z/os V1.8 and higher). This does not alter the z/os coexistence, migration, fallback, or service policy. The intention of this change is to provide an accommodation for customers who have not completed their migrations to newer z/os releases within the service support period. All statements regarding IBM's plans, directions, and intent are subject to change or withdrawal without notice. Has the process for submitting defects changed with the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8? No, the process for submitting defects has not changed. What is the process to obtain this Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8? The IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 is ordered via product number 5638-A01. Contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner for details. You will need to provide the machine type and model as well as capacity setting for all servers running z/os V1.8 at a physical location. You will also need to sign the IBM Customer Agreement Attachment for IBM Lifecycle Extension for System z Programs (Z or INTC-8279). Does the System z Developer Discount Offering apply to the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8? No, the System z Developer Discount Offer is applicable to IBM software only. The Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 is a service offer. Does the no-cost prior-version waiver/ provision/ entitlement for PartnerWorld for Developers members apply to the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8?

No, no software discount applies to the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8. The Lifecycle Extension is a service offer. I have a z/os V1.8 system through the remote development program at the IBM Innovation Center, Dallas. Will the IBM Innovation Center receive, install, and make available to me all of the corrective service as customers encounter problems and are provided fixes? No, the IBM Innovation Center, Dallas will not pro-actively or preventively install fixes under the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8. The support provided by the Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 services offer is for corrective service only. The corrective service is provided on a one-off basis, that is, only companies who have experienced a suspected defect in z/os 1.8 code receive the corrective service (which would be a fix, bypass, or restriction to the problem). Corrective service is not shared, nor distributed preventively, and there is no on-going bucket of corrective fixes for the duration of this offer. But, under certain circumstances, the Innovation Center will verify the ISV has purchased the IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 and request the same corrective service IBM sent to the ISV. If the problem being corrected has never occurred in the IBM Innovation Center, Dallas z/os V1.8 environment, the corrective service may only be offered on temporary basis for a mutually agreeable time, usually about 30 days. At the sole discretion of the Innovation Center, the corrective service update may or may not become a permanent part of the z/os V1.8 environment. This decision will be made in conjunction with advice from the IBM Support Center providing the update. Remember, corrective service created as a result of defeats reported through the IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 are provided on a one-off basis and the service is not shared, nor distributed preventively to any parties. I have a z/os V1.8 system through the remote development program at the IBM Innovation Center, Dallas. If one of my customers receives a fix as part of the IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8, if I ask, will the Innovation Center receive, install, and provide the fix to me so I can ensure my product works correctly? Yes, under certain circumstances. The arrangement between the ISV and the customer must allow the ISV to disclose the customer name to the Innovation Center. The Innovation Center will verify the customer in the IBM Lifecycle Extension for z/os V1.8 and request the same corrective service IBM sent to the customer.
