Sliding Elements with jquery T hes e are another s et of effec ts that hide or s how elements - s lidedown() and s lideu p(), T his works in a s imilar manner to the hide() and show() effects, except that the Elements appear to s lide down from their tops when being s hown and s lide up when being hidden. Similar to hide() and show(), the slide effects have a command that will toggle the effect between hidden and s hown: Both the sliding down and sliding up effects are more impressive when you us e them with images or bloc ks with a bac kground c olor, s o the examples in this c hapter us e <div> bloc ks with bac kground c olors and images to demons trate the effec ts. Sliding down T o make a page element appear to s lide down, you firs t need to hide the element. T o hide an element, you s et its s tyle attribute to dis play=none. T o make an element appear on a page us ing the s liding down effec t, follow thes e s teps : 1. Create a Web page containing the following code: <html> <head> <title>m y T es t P age</title> <script src="jquery min.js " type="text/javascript"> </s c ript> <script type="text/javascript"> $ (document).ready(function () { $ (':s ubmit').c lic k(func tion () { $ ('div').s lidedown();
</s c ript> </head> <body> <div style="display: none"> <img s rc ="kis.jpg" /> </div> <br /> <input value="slide Down" type="submit"> </body> </html> T his c ode c ontains a hidden <div> element with an image and a button on c lic k of whic h hidden image would be s hown. 2. Save the file, and then view it in your browser. N ote that the div is hidden and we c an s ee only button 4. Click the button to see the image inside div with slide down effect as shown below
T he s lidedown effec t makes the image in the hidden <div> element appear from the top down. N ow you may want this <div> element to dis appear from the bottom to up. T his is where s lideup func tions c omes into help. Sliding up T he s lide up effec t hides an element by making it s lide up 5. A dd the following html code and javascript function for slideup function
<input value="slide U p" type="button"> $ (':button').c lic k(func tion () { $ ('div').s lideu p(); When the button is clicked, everything in the <div> disappears us ing the s lide U p effec t. 6. Save the changes view it in your browser and Click the button to view slideup effect. T he s lideu p effec t makes the image in the <div> element s lide up and then dis appear from view Changing the slide speed Y ou c an c ontrol the s peed of the s lide up or s lide down effec t with the speed setting. jq uery has three predefined speeds : s low, medium, and fas t. Y ou c an als o us e a number that represents the number of milliseconds during which you want the animation to oc c ur. $('div').s lideu p(); c an be c hanged to $ ('div').s lideu p('s low'); or $('div').s lideu p( ); Sliding with a toggle effect T he s lide up and s lide down effec ts work together to hide and s how elements. Y ou c an us e the s lide toggle effec t to allow a visitor to toggle between an event sliding up and sliding down. T o us e the s lide toggle effec t, follow thes e s teps : 7. Add the following html code and javascript function for slideup function
<input id="s lidetoggle" value="slide T oggle" type="button"> $('#s lidetoggle').c lic k(func tion () { $ ('div').s lidet oggle( ); When the button is c lic ked, toggle all <div> elements to s lide up if they are s hown and s lide down if they are hidden. 8. Save the changes, and then view it in your browse by clicking the button. A bove screenshot show the toggling effect. Since the toggling effec t was going on, only half of the image is s hown here Sliding with a callbackfunction T he s lide up, s lide down, and s lide toggle effec ts allow you to use a callback function, which is code that executes after the
effect is finished. Here s an example of code using a callback func tion that opens an alert box after an element is toggled: 9. Modify the slidetoggle function to add a callback function $('#s lidetoggle').c lic k(func tion () { $ ('div').slidet oggle(1000, function () {alert('toggle done'); T his c allbac k func tion will jus t s how an alert to the us er informing him the toggle ac tion has finis hed exec uting Save the changes and then view it in your browser. Click the button.
The <div > element now slides up or dow n each time y ou click the button. Then the callback function opens the alert box, indicating that the effect has finished, Function slidedown(speed,callback) Parameter speed (Number String) Optionally specifies the duration of t number of milliseconds or as one of the predefined strings: s If omitted, no animation takes place, and the elements are im callback (Function) An optional function invoked when the a No parameters are passed to this function,
