1 How to Add On-Screen Messages to Keep Users Informed Watch Video Version By Irene Bushnell, Intacct Practice Manager, Synergy Business Solutions One of the really cool features in both Dynamics SL and Intacct is that it is fairly easy to add messages to data entry screens. Visuals are very effective and if you think about it, there are many useful purposes for on-screen messages. Help ensure data entry is more accurate. Give tips about fields or options in the open screen. Inform users of a new feature, field, or function that was installed during an update. Add a hyperlink to a relative resource. 2 Figure 2 Text Message on a Screen Dynamics SL Figure 3 Hyperlink to a Web URL - Intacct How to Add On-Screen Messages in Intacct Note: You must have Platform Services Standard (free) enabled to do the on-screen messages included in this article. If you see Customization Services on your menu, call your VAR or IAP partner and they can get you subscribed to Platform Services Standard. Let s walk through the steps of adding a message to a screen. How to Add On-Screen Messages to Keep Users Informed 2016 Synergy Business Solutions. All rights reserved. 2
3 1. Open the screen where you d like to add a message. We ll use the Vendor Information screen in our example. 2. Once the screen is open, click on the More Actions button in the top right hand corner, and choose Edit this page. 3. If the screen has multiple tabs, select the tab that will contain the message. For our example, select the Additional Information tab. Note: All the screen says, all standard screens and tabs automatically put the message at the bottom of the screen. 4. Add a section for the HTML creating a New Section. Click your mouse over the New Section button on the left and drag it into the white space just below the wording. An orange box will appear where you ll place the New Section. 5. Name the new section in the top left hand corner where it says Section Title. 4 6. Add the HTML Component by hovering your mouse over the New HTML Component button on the left and dragging it into the New Section created in the previous step. 7. Click the Edit button on the right of the New Component and add your text. Use the bold, italics and font sizes to format the text. Click the Save button to save the text. Note: At the time this article was written, the font color is not working in components. A case has been filed with Intacct to get this fixed. You can use the Script component to add text and the font colors work with Script components. If you d like help with font colors via Script components, please contact your VAR or IAP partner. 5 8. When you accessed the page editor, you were either adding a new vendor, or editing or viewing an existing vendor record. You have the ability to pick and choose which views will display the HTML text. Click the Save & Synchronize button to choose the current view as well as the other views for displaying the text. If you simply choose Save, the customization will only be saved for the view you are in when you launched the page editor. That s it! Your on-screen message will now appear on the screen. Follow these steps to add a hyperlink. 1. In the Edit HTML screen, enter the words to appear on the screen. 2. Highlight those words and click the Create Link icon. 3. The Insert Hyperlink screen appears. Enter the URL. 4. Choose _blank in the Target dropdown to have the URL open in a new window. Save your changes. 6 We have barely scratched the surface of the HTML Component capabilities! Hopefully you followed along in your instance of Intacct and we ve got your mind churning with ideas of how you can use onscreen messages. If you need additional information, or want to do some more complicated customizations, please give us a call. We have customizations experts on our team ready to help. Thank you!
