5 Scope Scope The scope of this document is to provide information and detailed step-by-step instructions in order to allow site administrators to customize a Nimbus Control SharePoint site. For information and instructions on installing and upgrading a Nimbus Control SharePoint integration please consult the Administration Guide that is shipped with the installation CD.
Introduction 6 Introduction Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services provides a powerful toolset for organizing information, managing documents, and providing effective collaboration environments, all within a single Web-based environment that integrates easily with desktop applications such as Microsoft Office. Nimbus Partners have developed a solution that integrates Nimbus Control Web Server functionality into a SharePoint site, thereby providing users with access to all of the Nimbus Control Web Server functionality through a SharePoint environment. Access to Control data through SharePoint is controlled by the same user group privileges as in the Home page view in the classic Web Server, as defined in the Control client. For example, if reports are disabled for a particular user group, the users within that group will be unable to view reports through the SharePoint interface. A SharePoint site can be customized in many different ways; the table below lists a summary of what's covered in this guide. Change\Customizat ion Source of Change Add Images SharePoint Add Custom Text SharePoint Change Web Part Titles Edit Page Add a MSImage.dwp Web Part Edit Page Add a MSContentEditor.dwp Web Part Section SharePoint Edit Page Modify a Web Part Add Web Parts SharePoint Edit Page Add a Web Part Remove Web Parts SharePoint Edit Page Remove a Web Part Move Web Parts SharePoint Edit Page Move a Web Part Change Main Logo SharePoint Modify Site Settings Change Main Title SharePoint Modify Site Settings Change Tab Titles Classic Web Server Modify Locale Files Change Theme Colors SharePoint Apply Theme Apply a theme Create and Modify Site Themes Front Page 2003, SharePoint Designer Create and Modify Themes Design a theme Use Control Web Parts in Other Pages and Sites SharePoint Import and Add Web Part Import a Web Part Import a Web Part Import a Web Part Modify the main logo Modify the main title Modify the navigation and page titles Note: With respect to the Source of Change, SharePoint refers to changes made through the SharePoint interface, Classic Web Server refers to changes made to the normal Web Server installation.
Support 7 Support Nimbus Help Desk provides the following support for a Nimbus Control Web Server SharePoint integration: Supported Installation and deployment of the Nimbus Control SharePoint solution Errors in the Nimbus Control Web Parts and sites Creating Nimbus Control sites Removing Nimbus Control sites Updating Nimbus Control sites Changing the themes of Nimbus Control sites Adding non-nimbus Control Web Parts to Nimbus Control sites Adding images and text content to Nimbus Control sites Modifying the properties of a Nimbus Control Web Part Deploying a Nimbus Control Web Part on non-nimbus Control sites Integrating Nimbus Control with the SharePoint Enterprise Search Using Nimbus Control functionality in a Nimbus Control site Installing or upgrading WSS and MOSS Hardware recommendations for an organization's SharePoint farm SharePoint farm topology recommendations for an organization Designing new SharePoint themes Using web page editors, such as FrontPage and SharePoint Designer, to customize SharePoint sites Modifying Nimbus Control.aspx pages Modifying non-nimbus Control.aspx pages Use of Document Libraries, Task Lists, Shared Calendars and other SharePoint functionality
8 What's possible What's possible There are many ways to customize a SharePoint site. The diagram below highlights some of these areas that can be modified.

These can be accessed from the menu. Edit Page Add, remove or update Web Parts on the page that you are viewing. In Control you can only edit the Home page. When you have finished editing the page, click Exit Edit Mode (under ). Site Settings The Site Settings allow you to perform a variety of administrative actions. You must have administrator rights to the Web site to administer any site settings. On the General tab click Languages. The first language in the list relates to the localization text file that you must edit. Web Parts What is a Web Part Web Parts are modular units of information that consist of a title bar, a frame, and content. Web Parts allow you to create personalized user interfaces by simply dragging individual Web Parts onto a Web page. Each Web Part makes certain content or data available on a page, and may also make it possible for the user to work with or modify that data through the browser. By using the Web Parts located on pages in a SharePoint site, users can access data from both inside and outside their organizations. When Control is integrated with Windows SharePoint Services, SharePoint administrators can design the default Home page that users see by adding, renaming and deleting the various Web Parts. Note: Web Parts can only be added and edited on the Home page. Import a Web Part All of the standard Control Web Parts are available to add to the Home page. However, if you want to use other Web Parts then you must import them into the site. Nimbus Web Parts must also be imported if you want to use them in other sites. Click, then Site Settings.
