4 What are Content Types? Enterprise Content Management is at the core of guaranteeing SharePoint is a useable and valuable information management system. Content types allow us to predefine reusable content for our sites and site collections to guarantee that users are utilizing the same templates and content definitions across all information.

5 What are Content Types? a reusable collection of metadata (columns), workflow, behavior, and other settings for a category of items or documents Content types enable you to manage the settings for a category of information in a centralized, reusable way.

10 Why are Content Types Valuable? Allow us to define reusable information in SharePoint so that we guarantee we don t have GIGO! With intentional focus on how information is captured/gathered in SharePoint, we can help make Search more functional and even relevant. Hard to understand at first, but you will find that everything you have ever done in SharePoint was fundamentally based on Content Types.

11 Scope and Syndication of Content Types The Scope of Content Types (including Site Columns and Designer Galleries) is the Site and subsites (Site Collection) Because of the Scope, if we want Content Types to be standardized across multiple Site Collections, we must utilize Content Type Syndication to extend the capability beyond the Site Collection where created.

12 Content Type Syndication Hub Allows for the centralization and sharing of Content Types by utilizing the Managed Metadata Service Application Provides for centralized management of Content Types Allows for Enterprise-wide content management

13 Creating and Using a Syndication Hub Create a Site Collection specifically for hosting your Site Columns and Content Types Enable Content Type Syndication Hub feature Configure your Management Metadata Service to host the Syndication Hub Add the URL of the Content Type hub Update settings on the MM Service Connection

14 Planning Plan for Content Types (both site-wide and enterprisewide) Create Content Types in the Content Type Hub Publish Content Types Execute required timer jobs (Content Type Subscriber) Verify job ran and that content types are published in the subscribed Site Collection Content Types are deployed and ready to use in subscriber web applications
