1 Creating a New Project with Struts 2 February 2015 Level: By : Feri Djuandi Beginner Intermediate Expert Platform : Eclipse, Struts 2, JBoss AS This tutorial explains how to create a new Java project with Struts 2 from the scratch. Obtaining the Struts 2 Library 1. Download the Struts 2 library from: The latest Struts 2 version when this document is written is , therefore all explanations in this document will refer to the version. You are free to use another version and make some slight adaptations accordingly. 2. Once the Struts library is obtained, please extract the files and put in a specified folder for instance struts Be noted that the library files are in the form of JAR files, and they reside under the lib folder. 3. Create a new project File New Dynamic Web Project Name the project as struts_hello and speficy the location of the project folder at your preference. 1

$Associating the Project with Struts 1. Open the Windows Explorer program and locate to the lib folder under the project folder:..\struts_hello\webcontent\web-inf\lib.$

Copy the common Struts library files from the Struts s lib folder into the project s lib. Notice that we will not copy the entire files but only copy some selected files: asm jar asm-commons jar asm-tree jar commons-fileupload jar commons-io-2.2.jar commons-lang3-3.2.jar freemarker jar javassist ga.jar ognl jar struts2-core jar xwork-core jar The file names may be different depending on the version of Struts is being used. 2. Now go back to Eclipse, and locate the lib folder under the project tree. Right click on the lib folder and select Refresh. Please ensure the library files appear under the folder. Right click on the lib folder and select Build Path Configure Build Path. In the Libraries tab, click the Add External JARs button. 3

$4. Using the Project Explorer, create a new folder named classes under the..\webcontent\web- INF folder. Under the classes folder, create a new file named struts.xml.$

So now we are going to create the associated file. 5. Under the..\webcontent\web-inf folder, create a new JSP file named Hello.jsp. Type the following lines in the file. 5

Now run the application in the selected application server. Right click on the project name and select Run As Run on Server. 6
