1 User Exercises In this document you will find Bamboo Custom Column Toolkit exercises which will walk you through some common scenarios for using these products, and will also provide a hands-on method to accelerate your understanding as to how they work. All of the information below can also be found in our Online Application Notes for each product. Note: Some of the exercises in this workbook are interdependent, so we recommend that you follow each section, in order, from beginning to end.

3 Common Tasks Throughout these exercises, we will be asking you to perform common SharePoint actions. See the instructions below for reference. Modify a Web Part When we ask you to modify a Web Part, we simply mean to click the Web Part actions arrow and select Modify Shared Web Part. 2
4 Bamboo Lookup Selector & Bamboo Validator Exercise 1-1 Add Two New Dependent Lookup Selector Columns 1. On the Getting Started page, click the Affiliate Inquiries link in the Quick Launch: 2. Select Settings > List Settings: 3. Select the Create Column link. 3
5 4. Input Manager Name for the Column name, and select Bamboo Lookup Selector as the column type. 5. Configure the column settings as seen in the screenshot below and click OK. 6. While remaining within the List Settings for the Affiliates List, select the Create Column link. 7. Input Contact Info for the Column name, and select Bamboo Lookup Selector as the column type. 8. Configure the column settings as seen in the screenshot below and click OK. 4
6 Exercise 1-2 Add Two New Validator Columns 1. While remaining within the List Settings for the Affiliates List, select the Create Column link. 2. Input Contact for the Column name, and select Bamboo Validator as the column type. 3. Configure the column settings as seen in the screenshot below and click OK. 5
7 4. While remaining within the List Settings for the Affiliates List, select the Create Column link. 5. Input Contact Phone for the Column name, and select Bamboo Validator as the column type. 6. Configure the column settings as seen in the screenshot below and click OK. 6
8 Exercise 1-3 Create a New Affiliate Inquiry List Item 1. From your breadcrumb trail, select the Affiliate Inquiries link: 2. In the List Actions menu, select New > New Item: 7
9 3. Create the new list item similar to the screenshot below. a. Notice how your select options for State, City, Zip Code, Building ID, Manager Name, and Contact Info automatically filter based on your previous selection? Play around with this a little. You can also see the find as you type technology used in these fields. b. Also, go ahead and input an invalid format for Contact or Contact Phone click OK. You ll see your custom error message displayed and the form will not submit a pretty handy feature, right? 4. When you are done playing around with the form, click the OK button to create the new list item. 8

11 Bamboo Rich Text Exercise 2-1 Create New Bamboo Rich Text Column and Use the Image Management Features 1. Navigate to the Executive Buildings list by selecting Executive Buildings from the Quick Launch. 2. Select Settings > List Settings: 10
12 3. Select the Create Column link. 4. Input Photo for the Column name, and select Bamboo Rich Text as the column type. 5. Configure the column settings as seen in the screenshot below (the URL will automatically be input for you) and click OK: 6. Click the All Items view link: 7. Move the Photo column to the 1 position and click OK: 11
13 8. Hover over the Airport Gateway list item and select Edit Item: 9. In the Photo Rich Text field, click the Image Manager button : 12
14 10. When the Image Manager opens, select the Building1.jpg image to use as the photo for this list item and click the Insert button: 11. Click OK to save your form input. Your list should now look similar to the one shown in the image below. 13

16 Bamboo KPI Column Exercise 3-1 Create a New KPI for Executive Buildings 1. You should still be on the Executive Buildings list. If not, select Executive Buildings from the Quick Launch: 1. Select Settings > List Settings: 2. Select the Create Column link. 15
17 3. Input Independence Total Lease for the Column name, and select Bamboo KPI Column as the column type. 4. Configure the column settings as seen in the screenshot below (the Site URL will automatically be input for you) and click OK: 16

19 5. Click the Independence view link: 6. Check Independence Total Lease to show in this view and click OK: 7. We now see the Independence Total Lease KPI shown in our list view: 18
20 Exercise 3-2 Display Our KPIs 1. Navigate to the Office Management Home page by selecting the tab at the top of the site: 2. Select Site Actions > Edit Page: 3. In the Right Column, select Add a Web Part: 19
21 4. The Web Part Gallery will open. Beneath Bamboo Solutions, select Bamboo KPI Column Display WebPart and click Add. 5. Modify the newly added Bamboo KPI Column Display Web Part: 6. In the configuration tool pane, under Bamboo KPI Column Display Configuration, select Executive Buildings for the KPI Column List. 7. Click the right double arrow button to show all KPIs. 8. Input KPI, Status, Goal, and Value in their respective fields. See below: 20
22 9. Click the OK button in the Web Part configuration tool pane. 10. Select the Exit Edit Mode link: 11. We can now view all of our Executive Building KPIs in this nice column view: 21

24 Bamboo Custom Identifier Exercise 4-1 Create a New Custom Identifier Column for Unique Building IDs 1. Navigate to the Getting Started page by selecting the tab at the top of the site: 2. Navigate to the Office Suites list by selecting Office Suites from the Quick Launch on the Getting Started page. 3. Select Settings > List Settings: 23
25 4. Select the Create Column link. 5. Input Building ID for the Column name, and select Bamboo Custom Identifier as the column type. 6. Configure the column settings as seen in the screenshot below and click OK. 24

27 7. Click the All Items view link: 8. Move the Building ID column to the 1 position and click OK: 9. Expand one of the Building Code headings and edit one of the list items: 26
28 10. Simply click OK to see the new unique auto-generated Building ID identifier: 27
29 Bamboo Visual Indicator Exercise 5-1 Update the Office Suite Status Color-Coding 1. You should still be on the Office Suites list. If not, select Office Suites from the Quick Launch: 2. Select Settings > List Settings: 3. Select the Status Column: 28
30 4. Add Construction as a new Status in the choice selection field: 5. Click the OK button to save your changes. 6. Next, click on the Lease Status column link and you will see that Construction has been added. You can now choose a color to represent the Visual Indicator: 29
31 7. Select a new color to represent the Construction status and click the OK button to save your changes. 8. Select Office Suites from the breadcrumb trail to go back to the Office Suites list: 9. Expand one of the Building Code headings and edit one of the list items: 30
32 10. Select Construction for Status. Click the OK button save the item: 11. You can now see the color coding and visual representation of Office Suites that have a status of Construction: 31
33 Bamboo Column Level Security Exercise 6-1 Create a New Secure Phone Number Field 1. Navigate to the Getting Started page by selecting the tab at the top of the site: 2. Navigate to the Affiliates list by selecting Affiliates from the Quick Launch on the Getting Started page. 3. Select Settings > List Settings: 32
34 4. Select the Create Column link. 5. Input Phone Number for the Column name, and select Bamboo Column Level Security as the column type. 6. Configure the column settings as seen in the screenshot below and click OK. 7. Input your sandbox username in the Edit access field and select the Check Names icon : 8. Click the OK button to save your changes. 33
35 9. Select Affiliates from the breadcrumb trail to go back to the Affiliates list: 10. Hover over one of the list items and select Edit Item: 11. Input a Phone Number: a. Note: If your user account did not have Edit access to this field as set up in Step 7, this field would be greyed out and be un-editable. 12. Click the OK button to submit the form. 13. The Phone Number is now shown in an encrypted format: 34
