11 File Backup and Recovery Backups 4 types to Maintain System Bootable Clone Tape Daily Backup Weekly Backup Monthend Backup

12 Backup - Bootable Clone Tape Creating a mksysb tape*: 1. Signon as root 2. Type in df >/tmp/df.log 4. Type smit mksysb *Should be run once per month

13 Bootable Clone Tape (maksysb) (press F4 List for options)

14 Daily Backup The nightly backup command looks like: cd / (You must be in the root directory!) find data13 olog prt tss home var/spool/mail/* cqcs -print cpio -ovcc32 > /dev/rmt0 bkuptss.sh

15 Weekly Backup The weekly backup command looks like: cd / (You must also be in the root directory!) find. -print cpio -ovcc32 > /dev/rmt0 bkupall.sh

16 Month end Backup Run during the month end process. Additional scripts used for backup: ARMOV - run before MBS080 (AR Month Start) APMOV - run before MAP027 (AP Month Start) GLMOV - before MGL013 (GL Monthly Update)

17 Restore Using the CPIO command to restore An example of a restore command: cpio ivcc32umdl < /dev/rmt0 "data13/live/wobr*" This command will restore the WOBR* to the disk Compared to the full backup command: find. -print cpio -ovcc32 > /dev/rmt0

18 Recovery Why Recover? What you need: Clone Tape (mksysb tape) Two Step Process: Full (weekly) system backup Daily Backup A copy of the df command Restore using one or more backup from above Apply the TRANSACTION LOGGER.

19 Transaction Logger Error Writing Recovery 1. Error writing recovery message in the morning: FIX: logon as root chown prog:users /olog/rclog chmod 777 /olog/rclog The users MUST log off and back on to clear the error. 2. Error writing recovery message later in the day: FIX: Moving existing RCLOG file to /data13 logon as root df k /olog (check here to see if 100%) mv RCLOG.Z /data13 mv RCLOG /data13 cp /tss/macros/rclog /olog/rclog The users MUST log off and back on to clear the error.
