2 Introduction: This paper gives you an example of installing Rational Developer for Enterprise 9.0 using the code downloaded from IBM Passport Advantage or IBM internal XL Leverage. If you will install from DVDs this document might help but you should skip the sections about the downloading. Note that if you have already RDz versions or 8.5 installed you need to install a new eclipse shell; you can t upgrade those existing versions using the same eclipse shell. When installing RDz, usually there is two options that you may choose, RDz (standalone) or Rational Developer for the Enterprise that includes Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software (RAD,) Rational Developer for System z: (RDz), Rational Business Developer: (RBD), Rational Developer for i (RDi) and Rational Developer for AIX and Linux. This paper will describe the details using Rational Developer for the Enterprise. The installation of RDz only will be simpler and the first component that we cover in this scenario. Important: This paper has not being formally reviewed by IBM and any feedback should be to the author above. The figure below shows all products that are part of the bundle: Finding the products to get it downloaded. Using the Passport advantage (or IBM internal XL Leverage link) do a search for each of the products. Below the components that makes the Rational Developer for the Enterprise bundle RAD (Search for CRN7HML) Page 2

4 Defining our scenario example. We will first define what our scenario. 1. Our developers need to work with JAVA, so we will need RAD. 2. They want to do Smartphone client applications so they need IBM Worklight (that now is an RDz optional component). 3. And finally our developers work with z/os and COBOL and PL/I so we will install RDz. Since they have DB2 on z/os they will also need Data Studio (RDz optional component) 4. They want also to work with EGL so we will install RBD. If you don t have exactly the need proposed here, you can just bypass the product or component install. Notice that in our scenario we will not consider System i (old AS/400), Linux or UNIX tools. Note that Installation Manager supports installation pointing directly to the IBM Passport Advantage. This paper will not cover this capability 1- Downloading RDz client, Data Studio and Worklight You could use the previous search, but probably easier to do another search for the part number CRN3YML:. 7 In my scenario I downloaded 7 files. 1.1 Unpacking the downloaded content These zipped files are around 6.8 GB and may take a while to download. Now you will need to unzip and expand the files that you downloaded Page 7

8 1. Create a folder named install RDz Client 2. Double click on DB2_CPE_10_Win_x86-64.exe and point to the folder RDz_Client 3. Unzip the zip files to the RDz Client folder (DO NOT unzip the CIN*.zip Worklight this point. and point the results to the folder RDz Client that you created After unzipping and extracting the download code, the results should be something like the one below Page 8

9 4.Once the folders are built, you could delete the *.zip files and the *.exe below to free space: 5. Make two folders WL_STUDIO and WL_TEST under RDz Client. Unzip the CIN0AEN.zip to the folder WL_STUDIO 6. Unzip CIN3NEN.zip to folder WL_TEST Page 9

10 2 Change the Installation Manager configurations (if IM already installed)> The IBM product that installs IBM Rational products is called Installation Manager (IM). You may have already this installed, but you will need at least the IM version to make the installs defined here. There is a know issue when using Installation Manager that causes some Java exceptions at the end of the installs. If you have already installation Manager on your computer you can update IBMIM.ini file to 1280 for max heap value from the This file should be in program files\ibm\installation manager\eclipse Change as below: Page 10

11 3 - Starting the RDz client installation..--> In this example I will assume that Installation Manager was already installed on your computer. If IM is NOT installed it will prompt to install then you later resume the RDz install Install RDz 1. To Install RDz, go to the folder RDz Client\RDz90_Setup and double click on launchpad.exe. I suggest you to install as administrator access if possible. Some other products may require Installation Manager (IM) as administrator. Page 11

12 2. Select the Install Rational Developer for System z, select install for all users (if possible) and click Start guided installation 3. Select the environment that you need as an example below and click Continue Installation. Page 12

13 4. You may have the dialog below if has already some component installed (like RTC in my example) on your workstation Click Continue 5. Check the components as below and click Next, 6 Click Next: for Install Packages Page 13

14 7. Accept the license, click Next 8. Select Create a new package group, type the installation Directory (I used C;\Program Files\IBM\SD90), select the architecture (I used 64 bit.) and click Next. Note that I am using the existing Eclipse shared code (since I have already eclipse products) TIP: Do NOT worry about the package group name (in my example "IBM software Delivery platform_2"). You will create a NEW package group and the package name is automatically created by IM. Your package name probably will be different than mine. 9. Select Next (unless you want to extend your already existing eclipse and wants to share on same shell, which I do not recommend). Page 14

15 10. Take the English default and click Next 11. Expand RDz (IBM Rational Developer for System z Select System z Code Generators to be installed. (might be handy feature for creating COBOL samples from DB2 tables) Scroll down to the end and select the components that are not selected if you want them Click Next. If you want to have a local Help when using RDz, you have to select. The default access the help from the Web, that may require some customizations if firewall is in effect. Other option is to have the help on a server using your intranet.. The default is via Web. Note: When selecting Download help only limited help content is included during installation. When you first start the product, the complete online help is downloaded and installed provided that you have an Internet connection. On subsequent startups, available updates to the help are downloaded and installed. and click Next. Page 15

16 13. I could configure the z/os connection now if already have the z/os components installed or later in my example I will do later and clicked Next. Page 16

17 14 Verify the RDz choices and click Install The installation on my T420 using an external USB HD took less than 20 minutes, when installing on Windows 7. You can see the progress bar in the bottom. When complete you will have an Installation Successful message. Page 17

18 15 Click Finish to start RDz. At this point you may find specify a location for your workspace or should the default. In my example I selected the location as below: Do no select the option Use this as default and do not ask again, since you may have other workspaces created in this dialog.. RDz will be started. 16. Click on Ignore. You may solve the license issue later, for now just Ignore the dialog. Later in this paper we explain how to install the licenses. If you decided to install the local help, the startup may take a while as seen below. Page 18

19 3.2 Worklight install shell sharing with RDz We will install Worklight using another technique. 1. Start RDz and select Help Install New Software 2. Click Add and point to the WL_STUDIO (Worklight folder created before) Click OK Page 19

20 3. Click Select All and click Next 4. Verify the Install details and click Next 5. Accept the license and click Finish Page 20

21 6. When complete re-start RDz 7. Repeat the operation to install the WL Mobile Test Workbench Click Add and point to the Worklight folder created before 8. Click Select All and click Next Page 21

23 3.3 Creating an RDz startup shortcut on your desktop It is a good idea having an RDz shortcut at the windows desktop.. Create a short cut pointing to your favorite RDz workspace 18. Right click select properties and change as below: -data points to the workspace location at the startup -showlocation Shows the workspace being used as seen below. This way when RDz starts it shows the Workspace Location as seen below: The basic RDz installation is complete and you are ready to install other components now. Page 23

24 3.4 Data Studio installs on RDz shell If you use DB2 on z/os I heavily recommend you to install the optional Data Studio. It brings more functionality to your RDz and extends the DB2 capabilities beyond the DATA perspective. 4.1 Select as below 4.2 Point to the folder where you unzipped all downloaded code and click OK 4.3 Select as below Page 24

26 4.8 Click Next 4.9 Click Next. If you want to have a local Help when using Data Studio you have to select. The default access the help from the Web, that may require some customizations if firewall is in effect. Other option is to have the help on a server using your intranet. The default is via Web Verify the components and click Install. Page 26

27 The installation on my T420 using an external USB HD took around 6 minutes, on Windows 7. You can see the progress bar in the bottom. When complete you will have an Installation Successful message. Exit the installs; we will NOT install DB2 Connect in this scenario. But The process would be similar to the DATA Studio Creating the RDz Help Indexes (Optional) The first time that you use the Help an index is created. I suggest you to create this now, so when you need it will be already there.. Select Help Help Contents. Type any world like XML and click Go. The index will be created and will take few minutes. 28 4. Downloading the RAD from IBM Passport advantage RAD has many components that you may need. In my scenario I want to have RAD and J2C connectors since I have CICS and may need it. In the picture below I shown the ONLY selected components that I need to download in order to have such capabilities. 32 4.2 RAD install shell sharing with RDz 1. Expand RAD_SETUP and double click on launchpad.exe 2. Click on Install IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software Page 32

34 6. Select Use existing package group since we want to shell share the RAD with the existing RDz.. Note that we will use 64 bit. architecture. Click Next. I will use the existing shared code 7. Select J2C Connector since we might use as connectors to CICS. And click Next Page 34

Downloading the RBD (EGL) from IBM Passport advantage Rational Business developer (RBD) allows the use of the IBM language named EGL. Even if you don t use EGL in production it s a good way to make small prototyping using the EGL capability of generated Java, COBOL or Java Script. For example from a given WSDL you can easily create a Web 2.0 client (Java Script) using EGL. Download all RBD files to the same folder as you did downloaded the other components You could use the previous search, but probably easier to do another search for the part number CRN2PML The results are below.. 38 5.1 Unpacking the downloaded content For RBD you will need to download 3 files This download is around 6.5 GB and may take a while to download. 1. Create a folder named RBD 2. Unzip the 3 RBD files point to the folder RBD that you created above. 39 4. Click on Install IBM Rational Business Developer 5 Check the component as below and click Next, 6 Click Next: for Install Packages 7. Accept the license, click Next Page 39

42 6 - Installing the RDz, RBD and RAD licenses key There is many types of licenses on the Rational products. Please refer to pics/r_lic_type_definition.html for details The products that you installed are Trial until you install the license key for each one. You might have already the license keys, but if not might need to logon to a Rational Web Site to get it. I have used the site: In my example I am using Authorized user licenses. For our scenario we will need license keys for RDz, RAD and RBD (EGL) 1. You must download and unzip. Files named xxxxxxxx_activation.zip are created. Unzip to any folder as the example below: 2. Using Installation Manager select Manage Licenses. Page 42

43 3. Select the product to be activated and choose Import product Activation Kit (or Configure Floating license support if you have floating licenses) Note that you need three licenses.. One for RAD, other for RBD and other for RDz. 4. Point to the JAR file that has the RAD license Key, click Next: Page 43

44 5 Accept the terms and click Finish 6. The license is imported.. 7 Repeat for RDz and RBD. Selecting Import product Activation Kit 8. The final results will be as below. Page 44

45 7 - Managing licenses with Rational Common Licensing If you have a different license than authorized users license you will need some extra setup. The links below explain the type of licenses. pics/r_lic_type_definition.html The most common license that requires a License server is the Floating license.. 46 8 (Optional) Installing WebSphere Application Server (WAS) test client on same eclipse shell. In our scenario we don t need WAS. But if you will need it, it can be found under RAD components. Search again for CRN7HML Here an example installing WAS in an older RDz version (8.03). For RDz v 9.0 it would be similar.. 1. Start IBM Installation Manager using: Programs IBM Installation Manager IBM Installation Manager 2. Using Installation Manager select File Preferences 3. Add WAS repository: select Repositories, click Add Repository and point to WAS70 repository where you downloaded the code from IBM. And click OK. Example for WAS 7.0..\WAS70\disk1\diskTag.inf 4.. Click Test connections to be sure it found it and click OK. Page 46

47 5. Back to the dialogs, select Modify 6. Verify the package that will be modified and click Next.. 7 Verify the language and click Next 8. Under RAD, select that you will add WAS Page 47

48 9. Scroll Down and be sure that the JCA connectors are also selected 10. Verify the changes that will take in effect (in this example adding WAS v 7.0) and click Modify: If you don t need Tools for developing applications without local server, do not select. The install might be shorter. Probably the time was long since the IM was getting code from IBM servers at slow 50kb/s. 11 Click Finish to complete.. This installation on my Windows 7 took around 80 minutes. 10. Now you must install the WAS 7.0. Using IM select Install Page 48

49 12. Select WAS 7.0 and click Next: 13. Accept the Package where it will be installed and click Next 14. Verify the components to be installed and click Next: Page 49

50 15. Unless necessary uncheck Enable administrative security on the profile, use the default values (unless need to change it) and click Next. 16. Verify the components that will be installed and click Install 17 Be patient. This can take around 30 minutes. On my windows 7 it took 25 min. When the installation is over you will have the message as below. 18. Click Finish. Page 50

51 9 - Installing RDz Server Components on the mainframe User has no choices here. The code downloaded must be uploaded to the z/os. The same code applies for RDz (standard) and RDz in the z/os. The RDz server components can be located searching for part number CRN3WML. Below it shows a way to find the RDz server v 9.0using the search. Download this to the same folder we have using for download Page 51

52 9.1 Unpacking the downloaded content This download is around 640 KB. Most of our customers install RSE (Remote System Explorer) ONLY on the z/os System, but it could be installed on Intel Linux Linux on System z AIX or Linux running on IBM Power Systems, 1. Create a folder named RDz Server 2. Unzip the file and point to the folder RDz Server that you created above. The results will be as below: You now can delete the zipped file that you have downloaded To install the RSE on your z/os system you will use the folder HHOP900.. See the program Directory and Host Configuration Guide for details. Page 52

53 10 - Updating the installed client with latest fixes for all installed products. The examples below were done using RDz Version 7. 6, but they still apply for any version. You must see that as an example.. If you have many workstations probably is easier to download and install the fixes in a local disk, then using Installation Manager pointing to this repository. If the example below, I am using the Installation Manager capability of searching all fixes in the remote repository using the Web connection. The example below was build using the version downloaded in Oct As you see there were updates in Feb 08, 2012 that elevate RDz to level and other products as well.. 1.Start Installation Manager if not already started: 2. Select Update 3. If your USB drive (with the software that you have it downloaded is not connected anymore you may receive the message below.. Just click OK and ignore. Optionally you could select File Preferences repositories and unselect the repositories added there. Also be prepared to use the repositories that you had used during the basic installs, It may ne necessary. In this case use File preferences repositories to add those back. 4. Select the package to be updated (I have only one in my example) and click Next: Page 53

54 5. If you will download from IBM servers, you MUST have connection to the IBM external web page. The Installation Manager will retrieve all possible fixes and you will see the progress.. This might take a while, especially if your connection to the web is not fast In my example the IBM servers were slow and this whole operation took more than one hour. 6. You must verify the fixes (you may unselect ones that you don t want now.. and click Next.: 7. Accept the license and click Next Verify again and click Next 8. When all fixes are collected, click Update.. Be patient the fixes may take a while... Note if you decided to update also WAS 7.0 this may take more than one hour _.. Page 54

55 9. When complete the message will be similar to the one below. 12. To be sure that there is no MORE fixes to apply.. Check updates again 13. You should have something like below.. Page 55

56 11 - Cleaning the PC with old Installation Manager Updates Installation Manager keeps the old versions of the code. If you are sure that the update are OK and wants to erase the old code to reclaim space in disk: 1, Start Installation Manager and select File Preferences 2. Click on Files for Rollback 3. Click on Delete Saved Files you will save some space. In my example 2.7 GB Page 56
