2 Overview The purpose of this exercise is to verify the connectivity between the installed Rational Developer for System z (RDz) V7.5 workstation and host components. Refer to these settings in this document when they are needed: Settings Table: Setting Value Parent Profile - Do Not Change - Host Name DEMOMVS.DEMOPKG.IBM.COM Connection Name DEV Description My DEV Environment UNIX Files Daemon Port 4035 Authentication method Userid/password MVS Files Daemon Port 4035 JES Job Monitor Port 6715 Max Number of Lines Start RDz. You can invoke RDz differently depending on your environment. Starting out, you normally press the Start button then navigate to here: Page 2 of 13

These settings are dependent on choices made by the systems programming group that installed the RDz host components.

5 4. Define a new connection by expanding New Connection in your Remote Systems View in the upper right corner, right clicking the z/os connection line, and clicking New Connection. 5. Refer to the Settings table, on Page 2 of this document, for the values of these settings in your environment. Enter them in the dialog. 6 6. Refer to the Settings table, on Page 2 of this document, for the value of the z/os UNIX Files Daemon Port. Enter it in this dialog. Be sure that the Remote daemon radio button is clicked. Click Next > : Page 6 of 13

7 7. Refer to the Settings table, on Page 2 of this document, for the value of the z/os MVS Files Daemon Port. Enter it in this dialog. Be sure that the Remote daemon radio button is clicked. Click Next > : 8. You will now see a new DEV connection under the Remote Systems View. Page 7 of 13

8 9. Right-click the DEV connection and click Connect : 10. Enter your MVS User ID and password and click OK : Page 8 of 13

10 13. You can expand job listings and PDS data sets further, and edit objects by double-clicking them. Verify TSO Commands in the RDz Command Shell 14. Collapse the currently expanded areas in the Remote Systems view, right-click TSO Commands and choose Launch TSO. Page 10 of 13

Type listalc sysnames followed by the Enter key.

11 15. A Remote Shell is created for you at the bottom of the workspace. Double-click the Remote Shell Tab to expand the work area. 16. Type listalc sysnames followed by the Enter key. Output from the command is displayed in the scrollable area at the top of the workspace. Note that the interface is only suitable for when there is a line-oriented command and reply. 12 17. Double-click the Remote Shell Tab to collapse the work area. 18. Single right mouse-click MVS Files under your DEV connection. 19. Review the associated Properties view in the lower left corner of the workbench and make a note of the server level. Page 12 of 13
