1 More Info MIMIX Installation Wizard The MIMIX Installation Wizard provides a simple way to download, distribute, and install MIMIX version 8.0 software to an IBM Power System or to multiple systems simultaneously. The wizard uses Vision AutoValidate to automatically obtain and apply license keys for the software being installed. The wizard automatically installs the Vision Solutions Portal (VSP) server and the MIMIX portal application, which provide access to browser-based user interfaces for MIMIX. The wizard supports a standard install, which streamlines the installation process and makes some choices for you, and a custom install that provides more control for more complex environments. For new environments with two systems when you select the standard option, the wizard prompts you for information to create basic product configuration. The wizard also starts MIMIX, VSP, and data protection reports so that you can complete your configuration using Vision Solutions Portal. The MIMIX Installation Wizard does not support installing into a library located on an independent ASP. In order to install or upgrade an INTRA installation, the MIMIX Installation Wizard must be run twice once for the installation library and once for the INTRA library. If you cannot use the MIMIX Installation Wizard, the Using License Manager book contains installation procedures and supporting information for installing using the native user interface on System i. Supported portal applications and implications The MIMIX Installation Wizard automatically installs version 3 of Vision Solutions Portal (VSP) on all systems in your MIMIX installation. Earlier versions of portal applications do not function with version 3 of VSP. The first time that you install this version of VSP, it is required that you also upgrade any other portal applications on the VSP server to compatible levels. You can upgrade the portal applications without having to upgrade the associated Vision Solutions products on the native user interface at the same time. The server platform on which Vision Solutions Portal is installed may support a limited set of portal applications. On System i, version 3 of Vision Solutions Portal supports the following versions of these portal applications for Vision Solutions products: MIMIX portal application, version 8.0 ioptimize portal application, version 8.0 Once installed, each portal application can connect to multiple instances of its product. Some portal applications support connecting to more than one version of their product. For more information about other server platforms, see the Vision Solutions Portal (VSP) User s Guide. 2 Portal applications for products other than MIMIX are not deployed by this wizard. Software choices when installing The MIMIX Installation Wizard offers the following choices for what software to install: MIMIX. This choice is the default. It installs MIMIX software, License Manager, Vision Solutions Portal, and the MIMIX portal application. The wizard uses Vision AutoValidate to obtain and apply license keys for your licensed software, which can be either MIMIX Enterprise, MIMIX Professional, MIMIX for PowerHA, or MIMIX DR. MIMIX portal application. This saves the MIMIX portal application to the system and installs or updates the Vision Solutions Portal server as needed. License Manager. This installs only License Manager Shut down products Prior to installing either MIMIX or License Manager, if you have other Vision Solutions products that are managed by License Manager on the same systems as MIMIX, you will also need to shut them down prior to upgrading. To determine what products are managed by License Manager, use the command LAKEVIEW/WRKPRD. When upgrading, the wizard does not shut down MIMIX for you. The wizard verifies whether MIMIX is shut down on each system and, depending on whether you are using the standard or custom upgrade option, will either issue an error or prompt you to shut down MIMIX. Both scenarios provide access to instructions for shutting down. When installing MIMIX software or the MIMIX portal application, if Vision Solutions Portal is active, you will be prompted to shut down VSP. This affects access to all instances, including those for other products. If you choose not to shut down VSP, it will not be updated; you will not be able to access the new capabilities in VSP or the portal application after the install process completes. Standard or Custom install The MIMIX Installation Wizard supports a standard and custom options when installing MIMIX software. The custom option is used for new installs with more than two nodes. Standard option for new two-node install You can use the standard install option to streamline installing a new MIMIX environment. When you use this option, the MIMIX Installation Wizard will automatically: Install MIMIX software on two nodes using defaults. You are prompted for a product library name only if the default name, MIMIX, already exists. You cannot specify the auxiliary storage pool (ASP) in which to install; ASP 1 is used. Retrieve and apply license keys, if necessary, using Vision AutoValidate. 2
3 MIMIX Installation Wizard Install Vision Solutions Portal and the MIMIX portal application on both nodes. Start Vision Solutions Portal on both nodes. Clean up (remove) the installation files it used. Configure the nodes and communications between them within MIMIX (creates system definitions and a transfer definition). Start the MIMIX subsystem and port job on each node, and start MIMIX (STRMMX command). Start data protection reports. These can be used in Vision Solutions Portal to complete configuration. The first user to log in to VSP after the installation completes will find portal connections to both nodes and an instance to access the installation already created. Standard option for upgrade When you use the standard option to upgrade an existing MIMIX installation, the MIMIX Installation Wizard will automatically: Upgrade MIMIX software using default choices Retrieve and apply license keys, if necessary, using Vision AutoValidate. Upgrade Vision Solutions Portal and the MIMIX portal application on all nodes, and start the VSP server on all nodes. Start the MIMIX subsystem and port job on each node, and start MIMIX (STRMMX command). Clean up (remove) the installation files it used. Custom option for new install When you use the custom option to install a new MIMIX installation, you can install on any number of nodes, and manually specify options. The custom option does not create configuration and does not start the MIMIX subsystem, port jobs, MIMIX, or data protection reports. Custom option for upgrade When you use the custom option to upgrade an existing MIMIX installation, you can install any number of nodes, and manually specify options. The custom option does not start the MIMIX subsystem, port jobs, MIMIX, or data protection reports. MIMIX configuration defaults for new installs for two-node environments When installing software for a new two-node environment, you can specify information that is used to configure the system definitions and a transfer definition. You will see a MIMIX Configuration panel within the wizard, where you must provide the information necessary to define the nodes (Node 1 and Node 2) to MIMIX and configure communication between them. You must provide the following: 3
4 Node name - If values are displayed, they are from the systems you logged in to in previous panels in the wizard. The node names specified will be the names of the system definitions created. IP address or host name - The values are displayed are from the systems you logged in to in previous panels in the wizard. Values can be either a mixed-case host alias name or a TCP address (nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn) and can be up to 256 characters in length. Port - Identifies the port number of the node. The default value is port The valid range is from 1000 through To avoid potential conflicts with designations made by the operating system, it is recommended that you use values between and Primary node - Select which node will be the primary node of the installation. The Primary node identifies which node will be the source node for replication activity. The node selected should be where your business runs. Ensure that you select the appropriate node before you continue. The default is the node identified as Node 1. Requirements The node identified as the primary node will have its system definition assigned the role of a *NET node. The other node will have its system definition assigned the role of a *MGT node. These assignments occur even in environments licensed for multiple management nodes. The transfer definition is created with the name PRIMARY. Before launching the wizard, ensure that your environment meets these requirements. Client (PC) system requirements for using this wizard Before launching the wizard, ensure that your client workstation meets the following minimum requirements: Note: Closing other applications will improve the performance of the wizard. 256 MB free RAM One of these operating systems: Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows 2008 R2, Windows 7, Windows 8 (x86 and x64), or Windows Server 2012 (x64) Minimum 8-bit color depth (256 colors) Minimum 1024 x 768 resolution Adobe Acrobat Reader to view service pack Readme PDFs IBM Power Systems requirements for using this wizard Before launching the wizard, ensure that your systems meet the following requirements: 4
5 MIMIX Installation Wizard TCP communications must be configured and operational between the systems in your environment, as well as between your PC and the systems. The system name or IP address that is used to login to the systems from the PC also needs to be usable between the systems. The operating system must be IBM i V6R1 or higher. The software you install may require higher levels of the operating system. Option 30, IBM i - QShell Interpreter, of the operating system (5761-SS1 for V6R1 or 5770-SS1 for V7R1 or V7R2) is required. The QSYS/QUSRWRK subsystem must be active on all systems. Your user profile must have all the special authorities for each system. The special authorities are *ALLOBJ, *AUDIT, *IOSYSCFG, *JOBCTL, *SAVSYS, *SECADM, *SERVICE, and *SPLCTL. When using the wizard, system security is controlled through the wizard s IBM i Login panel. All actions on the system are performed under the user profile with which you log in. The port used for file distribution must not be in use or blocked by a firewall between systems. The Distributed Data Management (DDM) server must be started on all systems using the IBM Start TCP/IP Server (STRTCPSVR) command. Also, use the Display Network Attributes (DSPNETA) command to verify that network attribute DDM Request Access is set to *OBJAUT. This attribute cannot be set to *REJECT. The wizard requires that the following IBM i host servers be running on each system: as-central in QSYSWRK subsystem (*CENTRAL) as-dtaq in QSYSWRK subsystem (*DTAQ) as-file in QSERVER subsystem (*FILE) as-rmtcmd in QSYSWRK subsystem (*RMTCMD) as-signon in QSYSWRK subsystem (*SIGNON) as-svrmap in QSYSWRK (*SVRMAP) To ensure that the IBM i host servers have been started, use the command: STRHOSTSVR SERVER(*ALL) MIMIX DASD requirements on IBM Power Systems The MIMIX Installation Wizard copies MIMIX software to the IFS directory /Lakeviewtech/Upgrades on each system defined to your MIMIX installation. The size of a MIMIX software upgrade can be large 300 megabytes (MB) or more and it is common to have several MIMIX software files in the directory at a given time. If you choose the standard option while upgrading, the wizard automatically saves your MIMIX installation library during an upgrade or service pack installation process. The wizard also deletes the saved library after a successful upgrade. 5
6 If you choose the custom option while upgrading, you have the option to save your MIMIX installation library during an upgrade or service pack installation process. If you choose to save them, the save files are placed in a temporary library named MXIWIZnnnn, where nnnn is a unique identifier obtained from a timestamp. Vision Solutions Portal requires the following memory and disk space after is it installed. RAM - 1 GB Disk space 350 MB for VSP 25 MB for each installed portal application, plus additional storage for each configured instance Communication requirements for using this wizard Install process: The wizard uses the systems Host Servers as access points to the system in order to copy software and save files from the PC to the systems. Each server runs in a separate job on the server, and each server job sends and receives data streams on a socket connection. The wizard uses the MIMIX communication path to copy MIMIX software from one system to another if MIMIX is active. The wizard uses TCP/IP to transfer files from one system to another. A TCP/IP connection requires an open port upon which the connection is established. If the default port number (54321) is already in use or is blocked by a firewall, you will need to specify an alternative port number. Port numbers between 12,000 and 55,000 are open on most systems. License keys: The wizard uses Vision AutoValidate to automatically obtain and apply license keys for the software being installed This requires coordination between the MIMIX Installation Wizard, your systems, and Support Central. Firewall or other restrictions in your environment may prevent the Vision AutoValidate function from working automatically. In this case, the MIMIX Installation Wizard will direct you on how to obtain a License Key Package (LKP) from Support Central. You will be asked to upload system information in License Request Files and download the generated LKP file. The MIMIX Installation Wizard will then request the location of that file. IBM Power Systems requirements for using Vision Solutions Portal To use Vision Solutions Portal (VSP), the following are required on each system where the VSP server is installed. Default options install the VSP server on all nodes in the MIMIX installation. For nodes running on IBM i 6.1, the following are required: 5761SS1 *BASE - i5/os operating system and the following options; Option 12 - Host Servers Option 30 - Qshell Option 33 - Portable App Solutions Environment 6
7 MIMIX Installation Wizard 5761JC1 *BASE - IBM Toolbox for Java 5761JV1 BASE - IBM Developer Kit for Java and the following option: Option 11 - IBM Technology for Java 6 32-bit IBM PTFs - Install the latest PTFs for the licensed programs listed above. To see the latest IBM PTF requirements, visit ibm.com/systems/support/i/fixes/index.html, select Group PTFs, then select the appropriate operating system level (610). For nodes running on IBM i 7.1 or IBM i 7.2, the following are required: 5770SS1 *BASE - IBM i operating system and the following options: Option 12 - Host Servers Option 30 - Qshell Option 33 - Portable App Solutions Environment 5761JV1 *BASE - IBM Developer Kit for Java and one of the following options Option 11 - Java SE 6 32-bit, or Option 14 - Java SE 7 32-bit (recommended) IBM PTFs - Install the latest PTFs for the licensed programs listed above. To see the latest IBM PTF requirements, visit ibm.com/systems/support/i/fixes/index.html, select Group PTFs, then select the appropriate operating system level (710 or 720). Location The wizard installs 7VSI001 *BASE and option 2 into library VSI001LIB if they are not already present on the system. Depending on what software you choose to install, option 13 may also be installed. The wizard stores and optionally removes MIMIX software at the system IFS location /Lakeviewtech/Upgrades. If you choose the custom option and the MIMIX software for this upgrade is already located in this directory, the wizard provides the opportunity to use those files. Using those files can reduce the amount of time required for the distribution phase. Vision Solutions Portal server software and product portal applications are stored on the system at IFS location /visionsolutions/http/vsisvr. Portal applications are stored and deployed from the system IFS location /visionsolutions/http/deploy. Troubleshooting Install log files: Two install log files are created each time the wizard is run. One log is placed on the IBM i and the other on the PC where the installation wizard was run. These logs are not automatically deleted. The PC log contains more information than the IBM i log, and is always the preferable one to collect and use. It can be found on the PC at: 7
8 C:\MIMIX_InstallL_Log.txt If for some reason the PC log is unavailable, you can find the IBM i log at the following system IFS location: /Lakeviewtech/Upgrades/install_log_day_mmm_dd_hh_mm_ss_zne_y yyy.txt If you encounter problems while using the MIMIX Installation Wizard and are unable to resolve the problem and need assistance, contact MIMIX CustomerCare. Installation failure - new/upgraded installation: If your new or upgraded installation fails or is cancelled before completion, you may be able to determine what caused the failure and take the appropriate steps to fix the problem. The system job information is displayed in the status pane. You can copy and paste job information from the MIMIX Installation Wizard status pane to the native user interface command line. To assist you in resolving the problem, use the Work with Job (WRKJOB) command to view the system job log as follows: WRKJOB JOB(job_number/userid/job_name) After you have corrected the reason for the failure, click the Retry button from the Installing Panel. If you are unable to determine or correct the cause of the failure, contact Vision Solutions CustomerCare. Important! If you were unable to successfully upgrade, do not attempt to start your MIMIX installation. This could lead to an issue with your MIMIX configuration. A Certified MIMIX Consultant will assist you with the restoration process.
