3 Information on the Current Version and History 1 Information on the Current Version and History R&S TSMA and R&S TSMA6 All described procedures in this release notes are valid for both variants. In this case, the general term TSMAx is used. 5 Firmware Update 2 Firmware Update Firmware update packages for the can be downloaded from the Rohde & Schwarz web page The firmware setup file can be found under the title Firmware V ww.xx.yy.zz. 2.1 Preparing Installation There are several ways how to upgrade firmware / software. Select the preferred way Local Execution of the Setup File 1. Connect mouse, keyboard to the USB ports and a monitor. 2. Switch on the via power button. 3. Copy the setup file: a) For firmware installation: Copy the firmware setup file TSMAx-Setup- <Version>.exe into a temporary directory on the local disk of the R&S TSMAx. b) For software installation: Copy the corresponding setup file into a temporary directory on the local disk of the. 4. Check that the is in PC Mode, see 2.3 Checking Mode of Operation. 5. Open the Windows Explorer and execute the setup file TSMAx-Setup-<Version>.exe. 6. The R&S Software Distributor window comes up. Select "Local Installation" and press Next. Release Notes

6 Firmware Update 7. The package dialog lists all the available packages in the setup. Normally, this dialog can be skipped without any changes. Automatic Reboot should be selected. 8. Press Install to start setup. Important Note Do not switch off or unplug from power while running firmware/software update! 9. Finally, when all firmware/software packages are installed, a restart is executed. 10. When the firmware comes up again, the mainboard firmware is updated. Release Notes

7 Firmware Update Important Note Step 10 and 11 are only performed during firmware update, if the firmware package contains a new mainboard firmware. The following dialog appears. The mainboard flash is indicated like following: TSMA: STATE LED = white, SCAN LED = off TSMA6: Meas LED = red, Mode LED = off Fans are switched on 11. After the flash of the mainboard firmware the device switches off hard and reboots. 12. The firmware/software installation has finished, when the LEDs display following state. TSMA: STATE LED = yellow resp. green (depends on the state of the WLAN access point) TSMA6: Mode LED = green resp. blue (depends on the state of the WLAN access point) 13. Reload the Web-GUI (see 2.2 Calling Web-GUI) and verify the displayed firmware/software version in the Overview menu. The installed version needs to be indicated. The is ready for operation Remote Installation of the Setup File 1. Copy the setup file: a) For firmware installation: Copy the firmware setup file TSMAx-Setup- <Version>.exe into a temporary directory on the remote PC. b) For software installation: Copy the corresponding setup into a temporary directory on the remote PC. 2. Establish a LAN respectively WLAN connection between the remote PC and the, see following section. Release Notes

8 Firmware Update Using LAN Connection a) Connect the LAN port () with the host PC LAN port. TSMA: The LAN port is marked with "LAN". TSMA6: The LAN port is marked with the LAN symbol. The default IP setting of this port is DHCP client. For details, how to configure the LAN port, see the User Manual. Ask your network administrator for details on how to configure the remote PC. b) Switch on the via power button. Using WLAN Connection For R&S TSMA6 devices, a firmware upgrade from version is not possible via WLAN. Choose a different way for upgrade (local, USB stick, reps. remote installation via LAN). a) Switch on the via power button. For R&S TSMA6, the WLAN switch must be On. b) On the remote PC search for the TSMAx WLAN and connect to the network. The necessary access parameters can be found on a label at the bottom of the device. WLAN SSID: TSMA: TSMA-<xxxxxx> xxxxxx: individual serial number TSMA6: TSMA6-<xxxxxx> xxxxxx: individual serial number WLAN key: instrument (default) Per default the WLAN access point is enabled. See in the User Manual how the enable the WLAN access point when disabled. 3. Execute the firmware setup file on the connected remote PC. The R&S Software Distributor dialog box is coming up. 9 Firmware Update 4. Select "Remote Installation" and click "Next >". 5. The package dialog lists all the available packages to install. All packages, which you need to install are already pre-selected. 6. Click Next >. 7. After a while, all in the network are listed in the Device List dialog. Devices with a firmware version > 02.xx.yy.zz are only listed, if the device is in PC Mode (see 2.3 Checking Mode of Operation). Tick the device(s) to update. If the column serial number is not filled move the mouse pointer over the listed items to get related device information. 8. Click "Install". Release Notes

10 Firmware Update Do not switch off or remove power from the while executing this update! 9. The state of the installation process is displayed in the Status column. The process is finished when the status indicates Ready. 10. Press Exit. 11. Reload the Web-GUI (see 2.2 Calling Web-GUI) and verify the installed firmware /software version in the Overview. The is ready for operation Installation Using an USB Stick 1. Connect mouse, keyboard to the USB ports and a monitor. 2. Switch on the via power button. 3. Copy the setup file onto a USB memory stick a) For firmware installation: Copy the firmware setup file TSMAx-Setup- <Version>.exe into the root directory of the stick. b) For rvicom / software installation: Copy the corresponding setup file into the root directory of the stick. 4. Open the Web-GUI, see 2.2 Calling Web-GUI. 5. In the Web-GUI navigate to the menu Update (FW version ) or File Transfer / Update (FW version ) Open the Select Firmware Setup File select box. 6. Select the appropriate firmware setup file TSMAx-Setup-<Version>.exe and press Update Firmware (FW version ) or Execute Setup (FW version ) next to the select box. Release Notes

11 Firmware Update 7. A confirmation dialog box appears. Confirm with OK to start the update. 8. The firmware/software installation starts. The status text in the Web-GUI displays Installation in progress. TSMA: The STATE LED starts blinking blue. TSMA6: The Mode LED starts blinking blue. Release Notes

12 Firmware Update Do not switch off or remove power from the while executing this update! 9. After the installation of all firmware/software packages the reboots. Starting with firmware version , the Mode LED changes to blinking green (Selftest). 10. After the reboot, call the R&S TSMA Web-GUI, see 2.2 Calling Web- GUI. The status text Installation successful is displayed. 11. About one minute after the operating system is up again, the flash of the mainboard firmware starts. Step 11 is only performed during firmware update, if the firmware package contains a new mainboard firmware. The microcontroller flash is indicated like following: TSMA: STATE LED= white, SCAN LED = off TSMA6: Meas LED = red, Mode LED = off Fans are switched to full speed 12. After the reboot, call the TSMA Web-GUI, see 2.2 Calling Web-GUI. After a while, the status text in the Web-GUI changes to "No error" The LED changes like following: TSMA: STATE LED = yellow resp. green (depends on the state of the WLAN access point) TSMA6: Mode LED = green resp. blue (depends on the state of the WLAN access point) 13. The Overview page in the Web-GUI need to display the installed firmware/software version. Release Notes

13 Firmware Update The is ready for operation. 2.2 Calling Web-GUI 1. The Web-GUI has to be loaded prior to executing firmware / software setup. a) Remote from a WLAN connected device Start the web browser and enter the following URL: TSMA: TSMA6: b) Remote from a LAN connected device Enter the URL into the browser. TSMAx-xxxxxx = host name. This information can be found on a label at the bottom. c) Local Open the Internet Explorer. The Web-GUI should be loaded automatically. If not, enter the URL into the browser. 2.3 Checking Mode of Operation In order to execute the setup on the the mode of operation has to be PC Mode. 1. Open the Web-GUI, see 2.2 Calling Web-GUI. 14 Firmware Update 2. The mode of operation is displayed in the overview page. If the mode is already PC Mode, you can skip this section. 3. If a different mode is activated, select the PC Mode and press the Submit button. Starting with FW :00, the TSMAx reboots only in exceptional cases. 4. Reload web-gui after changing the mode and ensure that the Mode of Operation = PC Mode. The is ready for firmware update / software installation. Release Notes

15 Software Installation 3 Software Installation Only use the dedicated TSMAx setups for software installation. 3.1 Remote ViCom Server Software The Remote ViCom Server (rvicom) is an additional software package for the R&S TSMAx. The latest version of this package is pre-installed on any shipped R&S TSMAx. An upgrade of the Remote ViCom package is only recommended when operating the in rvicom Server mode. The update of the Remote ViCom installation could be neglected for other modes of operation (NESTOR, ROMES, QualiPoc). The installed version of the Remote ViCom server on the need to match with the applied version of rvicom client API on the remote Android device. In cases of a client / server version mismatch there are the following possibilities: a) Downgrade the rvicom server version on the to match with the applied rvicom client version on the Android device. b) Upgrade the rvicom client version on the connected tablet / smartphone to comply with the installed rvicom server version on the Preparation 1. To get the setup file TSMAx-rViCom-Setup-<Version>.exe, contact the R&S customer support. 2. Choose the way of installation and follow the instructions how to prepare ViCom Server Installation ViCom Server Local Installation Follow the general instructions in Local Execution of the Setup File, step 1 to Open the Windows Explorer and execute the setup file TSMAx-rViCom-Setup-<Version>.exe.
