Page 1 Unit 1 p12 fakeraid is simply multi-channel IDE/SATA disk controllers with BIOS configuration options and software drivers to assist an OS in performing RAID-like operations, appearing like hardware RAID. A common question is how this compares with RHEL's softraid (mdadm). There is no discernable performance gain using hardware fakeraid under Linux over the built-in softraid since the CPU performs all the work in both configurations. A common scenario for using fakeraid is in dual-boot environments in which Linux and Windows must be able to read and write to the same RAID partitions. In summary; RHEL software RAID is more robust and better supported than fakeraid, fakeraid is only required for dual-boot, and true hardware RAID is the best performance with appropriate installed drivers. Unit 2 p29 Note: "You may need to resize Firefox to view all of the content available in the Web Admin Portal." Specifically, look at the tab row to see if they all fit on one line, like this: If the 'rhevm' screen resolution is too small to allow all the tabes to fit in one row -- even when Firefox is maximized -- zoom out to reduce the relative size of the Web Administration app objects. From the menu, select 'View > Zoom > Zoom Out' until all of the tabs fit onto one row. Unit 2 p31 Unit 2 p33 The steps to remove RHEV Manager differ from the RHEV 3.1 Installation Guide. Here in a classroom, we delete all jboss and postgres packages, files and directories, knowing that only RHEV-M had used them. Demonstration, Step 1. Best practice is to standardize by using UTC in all virtual/cloud/enterpise environments. [root@rhevm ~]# hwclock --utc --systohc p44 The last paragraph has a major misunderstanding that needs to be addressed by the instructor. The paragraph incorrectly states: "In the Set RHEV-M Admin Password fields, enter the password you used for admin@internal twice (redhat)." Actually, these fields change the hypervisor's root account password. They do not modify the hypervisor's admin account or the admin@internal RHEV-M account. When initiating a host addition from RHEV-M, hypervisor ssh access is gained using the root account and password when these fields have been set. Legend Information - extended commentary or notice. Important - significant commentary or warning. Edit - typographic corrections, for improved clarity or accuracy. Error - the exercise or associated software does not perform as documented. Research - a reference or a reminder for additional research. No Machine - relevent when running in the Virtual Training environment. New - added or modified since the previous published errata.

Page 2 p45 (p277) Installing a RHEV Hypervisor, Step 4. Some systems may fail to boot after a successful hypervisor install if the BIOS does not correctly parse GPT partitions. If the system does not boot, the following workaround may work. Perform a PXE boot. Enter information appropriate to a network-based system rescue boot for the classroom environment. boot: linux rescue Configure your system appropriately when prompted. Use URL at for the rescue image. Let the rescue mount the disks. Start a shell, then use fdisk to set an older MBR boot flag. bash-4.1# fdisk -cu /dev/sda Command (m for help): a Partitition number (1-4): 1 Command (m for help): p Command (m for help): w Ignore fdisk error messages, power the system off, then boot again to test this workaround. p52 (p280) p55 (p281) p56 (p282) Upgrading RHEV Hypervisor, Step 3. Unlike the quick original installation, waiting during this upgrade for the RHEV-H host to go from Rebooting to Up takes longer than may be required. RHEV-M waits a default 300 seconds (5 minutes) even though the reboot finished after about 2 minutes. The ServerRebootTimeout tunes this behavior. Troubleshooting, Step 5. Replace "Type F2" with "Press F2". The uninstall storage_init=/dev/sda is crucial. If not cleaned properly, the next RHEV-H installation will only allow an upgrade or downgrade and not a new installation. Be patient with this procedure! It appears that the hypervisor has booted normally and is running, but it is actually initializing the primary disk behind the scenes. Leave the system untouched as it sits at the admin login prompt. Within minutes, the procedure will complete and the machine will automatically reboot. p67 p72 Adjust the Administrative Portal Timeout, Step 2. Using rhevm-config sometimes requires the --cver version option. To understand parameter configuration versions, view the results of using the -a (--all) option after listing parameters with the -l (--list) option. View memory optimization values using rhevm-config; this will be useful in the Unit 13 Comprehensive. [root@rhevm ~]# rhevm-config -l grep -i commmit [root@rhevm ~]# rhevm-config -g MaxVdsMemOverCommit [root@rhevm ~]# rhevm-config -g MaxVdsMemOverCommitForServers

Page 3 p76 (p287) Create a Data Center and a Cluster, Step 4. CPU Name: Depends on classroom hardware When asked how to display the CPU model name, common student responses include lscpu, lsvpd (ppc64), /proc/cpuinfo and the x86info package. However, these commands display the brand name (e.g., Core i5), the family name (e.g., '06' is i686), or the model code, but not the required microarchitecture codename (see table). Only the RHEV-M GUI application, or the vdsclient CLI, displays the necessary information. After hypervisor installation and approval, select the new hypervisor in the Hosts tab, then view the CPU Name and CPU Type in the lower screen's General tab. p77 Preparing NFS Storage Best practice is to use username and groupname with chown, not numeric IDs which might be different. [root@rhevm ~]# chown vdsm:kvm /exports/iso0 p83 Attach a Data Storage Domain, Step 1.1 Directories used as storage domains require setting the directory SGID permission bit. [root@rhevm ~]# mkdir /exports/testdata [root@rhevm ~]# chown vdsm:kvm /exports/testdata [root@rhevm ~]# chmod g+s /exports/testdata p90 (p291) MAC Address Range Settings Typographic error, values mistakenly displayed with periods. Replace with 52:54:00:56:XX: :XX:FF 52:54:00:56:XX:01-52:54:00:56:XX:FF p101 p101 As the Important note states, Run Once options are designed to be repetitive, as long as the system reboots on its own. At any time, stop the virtual machine and choose Run to revert to default boot settings. Demonstration, Step 7 This paragraph about connecting to the console of the virtual machine describes the behavior seen in the RHEV-M 3.0 version (and its accompanying SPICE release). In RHEV-M 3.1 (with SPICE 0.11), the basic controls for pausing and stopping and for changing CDs have been appropriately moved to the User Portal and Administration Portal interfaces for more stringent security. The console window now offers enhanced console choices: view configurations, USB device selection and sending special key-combinations. The look-and-feel matches KVM console windows.

Page 4 p102 (p294) Install a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Guest, Step 4. This being the first opportunity to choose New Server or New Desktop, here are the main differences: New Server: Configurable for High Availability (covered in Unit 12). Not appropriate for Pools (). New Desktop: Multiple monitor support. Flexible user security checking. Used for Templates for Pools. p103 (p296) p105 p120 Unit 7 p148 (p306) Unit 7 p148 (p306) Unit 7 p155 (p309) 162 p164 p175 p178 (p310) Install a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Guest, Step 10. Look at the title bar for your window! As the Note says, "Use Shift+F12 to release the cursor from the SPICE viewer." This is different than using Ctrl+Alt to release the cursor when in the KVM virt-viewer. Important: "When a disk is removed, all its contents will be lost forever." Starting in RHEV-M version 3.1, this can be avoided. However, disks must be detached properly to save contents from being lost. This new feature will be taught in a later course unit. Handling Time Skew Issues, Paragraph 3. The text states "refer to the instructions in Appendix G (KVM Virtual Machine Timing Management) of the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Administration Guide" which was correct for RHEV-M 3.0. In the current 3.1 product, this information is now section of the same Administration Guide. Create a RHEL Desktop Template, Step 9. Tabbing away from Name field ends up with data entry focus in the disk alias field, not description. Entering any text then erases the default disk alias causing the template creation to fail. When entering data on this screen, pay attention to which field has the focus and use the mouse to navigate or change fields. Create a RHEL Desktop Template, Step 10. Be patient. Template creation is finished when the relevent virtual machine returns to the Down status. Create a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server Template Reported misbehavior: systems built from server templates incorrectly display 'Blank' as source template in both the General tab and the Edit dialog. Systems built from desktop templates display correctly. Although the Edit Pool dialog screenshot is correct, the table underneath is from RHEV-M 3.0. Although the field descriptions and objects have changed, the explanations given remain valid. Create and Manage a RHEL Pool, Step 8. The new pool desktop will be called RHELpool-2 if the previous RHELpool-2 was deleted. Otherwise, it will be called RHELpool-3. Paragraph under Figure 8.11 states "By default, this screen will refresh every sixty seconds." This was correct in RHEV-M 3.0. The default for RHEV-M 3.1 is now 5 seconds. As with the Admin Portal, the User Portal may be resized to reduce the relative size of objects. From the menu, select 'View > Zoom > Zoom Out or Zoom In' until satisfactory. This can be especialy helpful if there are a great number of systems displayed in the User Portal. Caution: Zoom out too far and the blue right-side panel will disappear offscreen.

Page 5 p179 (p311) p179 (p311) Unit 9 p192 Access Virtual Desktops from the User Portal, after Step 7. While logged in as winuserx, test the VMUserNoCD restriction of this user, by attempting to access the CD device. Attempt to change the CD, including selecting from the menu for switching CDs. The system will then display "User is not authorized to perform this action." Access Virtual Desktops from the User Portal, Step 10. Be patient to ensure that the RHELpool-1 system has fully shut down before continuing. If Play is pressed again too soon, the pool may assign a new instance (e.g., RHELpool-2) because RHELpool-1 is not yet available for access. The exercise behavior -- that changes are always lost -- will be the same, but is better understood when the user accesses the same named instance and the previous changes are still gone. Using Pre-built Reports, Step 1. To change the rhevm-admin password, if it has been mistyped or forgotton: [root@rhevm ~]# cd /usr/share/ovirt-engine-reports/reports/users [root@rhevm users]# vi rhevm-002dadmin.xml... <password>new_password</password>... :wq! [root@rhevm ~]# cd /usr/share/jasperreports-server-pro/buildomatic/ [root@rhevm buildomatic]#./js-import.sh --input-dir /usr/share/ovirt-enginereports/reports/ --update Notice! Be patient; this procedure re-imports the whole configuration, not just the rhevm-admin user object. Unit 10 p198 p199 p200 p202 Unit 10 p209 Unit 11 p227 Unit 11 p230 There are 6 places to make this typographic correction. In every command line example where the first step is to cd to the ovirt-engine dbscripts directory, every addtional line should show [root@rhevm dbscripts] as the prompt, instead of root's home directory. Although this might not be critical, it has caused unwanted confusion during the Performance Checklist. There is an Firefox addon called "Poster" that makes a great front end to the REST API. See the Knowledge Solution at the Customer Portal Important! Follow the instructions (especially steps 1-3) to prepare for a new hypervisor. If the old hypervisor is not cleanly decommissioned, the data center and cluster may also need to be deleted to be allowed to continue. vdsclient Workshop, Step 1 "Login... as admin with a password of redhat. Press F2 to get a terminal." Only if the host is still the previous RHEV-H installation. The last lab re-installed the host using RHEL, so login as root with a password of redhat. Unit 13 (p330) The instructions for creating the Data Storage Domain (top paragraph) should state: Select the Storage tab, and click on the New Domain button. Enter the information above to the Discover Targets - Port. Press the Discover Targets button....

Page 6 Unit 13 p259 (p337) Installing and Configuring Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Step 26. The grading script incorrectly checks for 1024MB on the Windows system built with 2048MB. Find and replace 1024 with 2048 on line 1273 in /usr/local/bin/lab-grade-rhev before running the script. passes['win-desktop'] = check_vm('win-desktop', 'Basic Windows Desktop', 'desktop', 'windows_7x64', 2048, 1, 1, [{'size': 10, 'interface': 'virtio', 'sparse': 'true'}], 1) Unit 13 p259 (p337) Installing and Configuring Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Step 26. The grading script misses the "bookmark that displays all events that have a severity greater than normal." Make the following change on line 1130 in /usr/local/bin/lab-grade-rhev before running the script. bookmark = re.search('%s *\ Events[ ]*:[ ]*severity > normal' % bname, command_output[2], flags=3dre.ignorecase) end of Student Guide
