4 Functional Enhancements: Favorite Axis Range (MDA V8.3.0) Defining a favorite axis range for a signal allows to display easily the curve with the preferred axis scale in oscilloscope and in scatter plot Favorite axis range is specified in the axis settings dialog ( ). It is persisted per signal/device Favorite axis range is applied automatically when the signal is selected newly manually by icon ( ) or context menu For shared axis definition of a favorite axis range is prevented ( ), but range is calculated using MINs and MAXs based on individual favorite axis ranges Notes: - The favorite axis range is persisted in settings.user file, and applied when the signal is selected newly from Variable Explorer - An already defined favorite axis range can not be deleted, but overwritten by a new favorite axis range 4

5 Functional Enhancements: Copy & Paste of Instruments and Layers (MDA V8.3.0 & V8.3.1) Save configuration effort by copy & paste of signals, instruments, or layers Within Configuration Manager use context menu (V8.3.0), or hotkeys CTRL+C resp. CTRL+V (V8.3.1) Multi-selection of objects of the same type is supported Objects can be pasted into any configuration in current MDA V8 session Pasting into another application delivers the object name How to duplicate views but with data from another measure file: Paste the desired layers or instruments into a new configuration Add the new measure file to the new configuration (thereby resolving no-match signals) Copy & paste the layers or instruments back into original configuration After adding there the new measure file, the new signals are shown 5

6 Functional Enhancements: Show Device, Raster, and Unit Information in Instruments (MDA V8.3.0) To clearly identify signals in instruments additional meta-information can be displayed like device, raster, unit The desired columns resp. rows are defined by an icon in the toolbar Note: - The selected columns resp. rows are stored in the settings.user file, and used as default when creating a new instrument 6

7 Functional Enhancements: Adapt Decimals for Signal Values (MDA V8.3.0) To facility readability and get a reasonable precision for signal values, the number of decimals can be defined per signal Decimals are shown as defined wherever a signal value is displayed The respective setting is stored centrally, and re-used across instruments Notes: - The number of decimals is persisted in settings.user file, and applied when the signal is selected newly from Variable Explorer - The decimals at an axis scale depend on zooming level and axis range, i.e. are calculated automatically and can not be set by the user 7

8 Functional Enhancements: Most important calculation functions (MDA V8.3.1) Calculated signals toolbox is enhanced by providing frequently used calculation functions: Average, Integral, Minimum, Maximum ( Accumulate_Prefix_Function ) Rolling Average ( Accumulate_Rolling_Average ) Reset Minimum resp. Maximum ( Accumulate_Reset_Minimum resp. _Maximum ) Debounce ( Debounce ) Gradient ( Gradient ) RSFlipFlop ( State_RSFlipFlop ) 1 st Order Low Pass Filter ( Filter_LowPass1 ) The tooltip explains the needed arguments 8

9 Functional Enhancements: Data representation (MDA V8.3.1) In the oscilloscope data representation can be chosen from Physical Hexadecimal (memory representation) Decimal (Raw value, i.e. before applying the computation method) The selected data representation is indicated in the Unit field Default representation is physical Note: - Axis can be shared only for signals using the same data representation, and having the same data type 9

13 Files, Formats and Data Types: Generic interface for ASCII file formats (MDA V8.3.0) Customers can integrate additional measure files formats (ASCII based) by an easy-to-create configuration (*.ini) file, to support textual files, like ASCII, *.csv, and others An example incl. a description for such an *.ini file is provided in the folder %ProgramData%\ETAS\MDA\8.3\CorePlugins\AsciiConfigurations The measure file extension should be unique A clear structure of header and data blocks is needed All signals must be available in the same raster When starting MDA, all available *.ini files are loaded, and respective file formats are supported (Read & Write) 13

14 Files, Formats and Data Types: Status indication for values in table instrument (MDA V8.3.0) Especially in case of failure analysis it is crucial to know for a specific time stamp the quality of the given signal value Within the table instrument an intuitive coding reveals whether a sample is An actual sample providing a reliable value A value interpolated (last sample-mode) by MDA An invalid sample (if marked as invalid in MDF file) No sample was available, and no interpolation is possible 14

16 Usability Improvements: More user-friendly behavior for replace vs. add & remove (MDA V8.3.0) Facilitated handling for Replace vs. Add & Remove of a measure file: When adding a new measure file, it is checked whether there exist no-match signals in the configuration* If so, a dialog opens which allows to perform a file replacement if desired Drag & drop of the new file onto a file in the configuration is sufficient for a replacement An icon in front of the new file indicates whether it is added ( ) or used as replacement file ( ) *Note: Only no-match signals caused by a missing measure file are considered 16

17 Usability Improvements: Direct access for more color options (MDA V8.3.0) The MDA 8 default colors list is extended to a color palette Quick access to a bigger number of colors Expandable section for full color definition Number of needed user interactions for finding or defining the desired color is reduced Color and other settings are persisted per signal/device* and applied as default for respective signal when assigned to an instrument supporting signal color * Note: Information is stored in settings.user file 17

18 Usability Improvements: Improvements for MDA V7 configuration import (MDA V8.3.0 & V8.3.1) Reduced effort for re-configuration of an imported *.xda configuration from INCA or MDA V7 by respecting additional settings, namely Signal order in the signal list Line width of signal curves Note: Some settings are ignored on purpose during import, like visible time range, cursors, and others 18

19 Usability Improvements: Improvements for coupling with EHANDBOOK (MDA V8.3.0) Combined usage of MDA V8 and EHANDBOOK-NAVIGATOR makes it easier to analyze ECU behavior With MDA V8.3.0 and EHB-NAV V6.1 a replacement* of a measure file in MDA can be done without the need of re-connecting both applications * Note: It is mandatory to replace the measure file by using the replace icon ( ). Removing a measure file and adding a new one is not equivalent to a replacement. 19

20 Usability Improvements: Quick method to extract single bits (V8.3.1) Signals can be split into single bit signals directly from Variable Explorer In the background MDA V8 creates the respective calculated signals If desired, the calculated signal can be renamed Generated bit signals can be used in any instrument, as input for other calculated signals, and exported into new measure files Notes: - To remove the generated bit signals, the respective calculated signal needs to be deleted - If the default name is already existing, an appendix is added ( _1 etc.) - Generation of Bit Signals is not supported for signals with verbal computation method ( Enumerations ) 20

21 Usability Improvements: Enhancements for synchr. mode for cursors, table and event list (V8.3.1) With active synchronization, in table instrument and event list the synchronization point in time is high-lighted in blue To enable a quick navigation, double-clicking a specific row uses the respective point in time as new synchronization time Consequences for synchronized instruments Time range is scrolled accordingly in table, event list, scatter plot and statistics instrument Oscilloscope: With anchored cursors, the time range is scrolled and to keep the event in the visible range With unanchored cursors (implemented in MDA V8.3.1) the time range of the oscilloscope remains, and only the time of the active cursor is updated (i.e. the cursor is moved) 21

22 Usability Improvements: Enhancements to open configurations and measure files (V8.3.1) MDA V8 provides several ways how a configuration file (*.xdx) can be opened: Open dialog from the configuration ribbon Double-click onto the *.xdx configuration file Drag & drop of the *.xdx configuration file onto the MDA V8 tool icon, or directly into an already running MDA V8 session XDA Configurations from INCA or MDA V7 can be imported by means of Import xda functionality from configuration ribbon Drag & drop of the *.xda configuration file into an MDA V8 configuration Measure files can be loaded into MDA V8 using Add measure file icon in configuration ribbon Drag & drop of the measure file(s) into an MDA V8 configuration Notes: - Multi-selection of files to be loaded is only possible for MDA V8 configurations and measure files, not for xda files - All files to be loaded must be of the same type - Double-clicking onto measure files is not supported so far, to prevent conflicting situations with MDA V7 Newly available in MDA V

23 Usability Improvements: Customizable Support Information (V8.3.1) Support dialog can include customer specific support information Content of MDA support dialog can be extended by providing an additional file CustomerSupport.rtf The RTF file needs to be deployed in folder: %ProgramData%\ETAS\MDA\SupportInfo\ Contents can be plain text, hyperlinks to websites or addresses After a restart of MDA the extended dialog is shown Notes: - The rtf file can be deployed by using a customer script - MDA V7.2 and MDA V8.3 use the same file CustomerSupport.rtf 23
