3 Switching Between COM+ and InProc Environments When SyteLine is installed at customer sites, we assume the system will be deployed under a COM+ environment. Business partners or customer developers who plan to perform SyteLine development tasks sometimes load all installations of SyteLine (end user, utility server, database server, etc.) on a single machine. If you loaded the SyteLine utility server on your local machine, SyteLine runs in a COM+ environment on that machine. However, SyteLine IDOs and new forms must be developed in an InProc environment, as required by Visual Basic, in order to build, register and test IDO DLLs correctly on the development machine. This document explains how to switch back and forth between a COM+ (production) environment and an InProc (development) environment on your local machine. COM+ to InProc Use the following steps to manually change COM+ applications to run in an InProc environment. After following this process, your local machine is configured as an InProc environment, and you should be able to develop IDOs and WinStudio forms. 1. Delete SyteLine COM+ applications: a. Select Start>Settings>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Component Services. b. Expand the tree in the left pane: Component Services>Computers>My Computer>COM+ Applications. c. If your local machine is configured as a SyteLine Utility Server, you will see COM+ applications whose names start with "fs" (for SyteLine 7.02; for example fsido) or "MAPICS" (for 7.03; for example MAPICS IDO). Delete all "fs" or "MAPICS" prefixed applications in this area by right-clicking and selecting Delete. 2. Re-register all SyteLine IDOs and toolset COM objects into your local machine s registry database. a. Run regsvr32.exe on all IDO DLL files in the IDO subdirectory of the SyteLine installation folder, using this format: regsvr32 SyteLine_install_directory\IDO\IDO_dll_filename For example: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Frontstep\SyteLine\IDO\Material.dll" b. Run regsvr32.exe on the following toolset COM objects: Object IDObject.dll MGFormServer.dll SessionMgr.dll MGCore.dll Location SyteLine install folder SyteLine install folder SyteLine install folder SyteLine install folder IDO subdirectory 2003 MAPICS, Inc. 1-1

4 3. Use the InProc version of SymixDB.dll. The toolset includes both an InProc and a COM+/MTS version of the SymixDB.dll file. If your machine was configured as a utility server, the COM+/MTS version of the DLL is stored in the SyteLine installation folder. a. Copy the current SymixDB.dll file from the SyteLine installation folder to another area (to save it for later restoration if you want to return to a COM+ environment). b. Copy the InProc version of SymixDB.dll from the SyteLine installation folder s subfolder called "NonMTS" to the main SyteLine installation folder (replacing the existing COM+/MTS version). 4. When creating new forms, you may want to see all IDOs in the WinStudio data source drop-down list. If so, run the IDORegsrv.exe utility, which is described in the document "Using the IDORegSvr Utility." InProc to COM+ If you want to return to the COM+ (production) application environment, follow these steps: 1. Use the COM+/MTS version of SymixDB.dll. As mentioned in step 3 above, there are two versions of this DLL. When configuring a COM+ environment, be sure to copy the COM+/MTS version of this back into the SyteLine installation folder from wherever you saved it. 2. Re-create the COM+ applications. a. Select Start>Programs>Frontstep>Setup>SyteLine Configuration Wizard. b. If your machine has the utility server configured, and you have already deleted the COM+ applications as described in step 1 of the COM+ to InProc procedure above, the SyteLine Configuration wizard will give you the option to create COM+ applications. Follow the instructions in the wizard. c. You may want to make sure the COM+ applications were created correctly; to review them, select Start>Settings>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Component Services and expand the tree in the left pane: Component Services>Computers>My Computer>COM+ Applications. d. If you created new IDO DLL files, they need to be added to a COM+ application. You could create a new COM+ application and add new IDO DLL files to it. For more information, see the document "Creating COM+ Applications and Adding IDOs". Or you could add the IDO DLLs to an existing COM+ application - usually "fsido" (SyteLine 7.02) or "MAPICS IDO" (SyteLine 7.03). To do this, either drag and drop your new IDO file from Windows Explorer to the selected COM+ application, or follow these steps in the Component Services dialog: Expand the "fsido" (or "MAPICS IDO") COM+ application tree to display the components. Right-click and select New>Component. Follow the wizard instructions to add your new IDO components MAPICS, Inc.
