By promptly detecting any problems and initiating the corrective measures, maximum operating reliability and availability of the power system is achieved. Disturbance recording also improves the understanding of the behavior of the power system and the associated equipment, contributing to design improvements of future installations. The complete disturbance recording and evaluation system consists of REVAL, RESDA and Disturbance Collector programs together with hardware for interconnecting the disturbance recorders and protection terminals in a local network, in either a star or a loop configuration. This document describes only the functions of the Disturbance Collector programs and the interface to REx500 and RET521 terminals. 15 System requirements Instructions Installation Requirement Installation Requirement Before using Disturbance Collector, the software SMS510 has to be installed. For further information, see SMS510 Installation and Commissioning Manual, 1MRS MEN. 2 System requirements In order to operate, the software module Disturbance Collector poses the following requirements on its environment. The SMS510 PC: 64MB RAM (128MB RAM recommended) 300 MB disk free space (350MB recommended) Operating system Windows/NT 4.0 The HV/collect package: 1100 KB disk 2.1 Supported terminals Supported types RET 521 version 2.0 or later REx 500 version 2.0 or later 3 Installation 3.1 Installing the SMS510 software and HV/Collect The installation of HV/Collect is included in SMS510 s installation packet. To install SMS510 and HV/Collect use SMS510 s manual: Installation and Commissioning Manual 1MRS MEN. 1MRK UEN*

16 System setup Instructions Installation Requirement 3.2 The disturbance collectors directories The Disturbance Collector is not a stand-alone library function itself. It is an integrated part of the SMS510. The software is installed in the following directories: [drive]:\sms510\tool\hvcollect\inst [drive]:\sms510\tool\hvcollect\lang0 [drive]:\sms510\tool\hvcollect\use 4 System setup REVAL/RESDA The uploaded recordings can be analysed with tools like REVAL or RESDA or other tools with the ability to read REVAL- or COMTRADE formats. Choose File -> Open... in one of the above mentioned tools and browse to the destination directory (directory were the disturbance files are stored), select the REVAL header file You want to analyse. In REVAL an automatic printout function is available. Before this is properly working together with HV/COLLECT the default path, where REVAL finds necessary files, must be changed from [drive]:\sms\..\recom to [drive]:\sms510\tool\hvcollect. This modification is made in [drive]:\reval\reval.ini tag RECOM_DIR and must match the PATH_REVAL_LOG_FILES tag in HVCOLLECT.INI.! Note! Important notes concerning automatic printout from REVAL: To get this function working properly it is very important that the necessary printers are defined for the SMS510 user. Otherwise REVAL is not able to detect default printer definitions which is a must. 14 1MRK UEN*3.1-00

17 Performing certain operations Instructions Installation Requirement 5 Performing certain operations 5.1 Start the HV/Collect tool The HV/Collect tool is started from the main menu in SMS510. In the System Tools menu, (see fig. 1). Click HV/Collect. Fig. 2 System Tools menu 5.2 Change of password The Disturbance Collector has no password handling of its own. Instead, activities are depending on the user s authority level in the SMS510. All users with authority level 1 or higher have access to the Disturbance Collector activities. For more information about authority handling see SMS510 Operator s Manual 1MRS MUM. 5.3 Diagnosing errors When errors occur, the system produces error messages which are shown in a message box. The error messages are composed of a status code and short descriptive text. For more information about diagnosing errors see SMS510 Operator s Manual 1MRS MUM. 1MRK UEN*

21 Overview Technical descriptions 6 Overview The purpose of the Disturbance Collector is to collect disturbances from disturbance recorders in terminal units and save them as files on a hard drive for evaluation and long time storage. E.g for Reval format two files for each uploaded recording will be created, one header file yymmddss.reh and one data file yymmddss.rev where yymmddss = year, month, day and sequence number of the recording. Both upload processes (manual and automatic) stores disturbances under the SMS510 directory structure in \apl\sms510\recorder\ application_structure, which is the main storage directory for recording files. Subdirectories for each unit are created at run time and are named according to the unit name, e.g. SMS510\apl\SMS510\recorder\ROOT\ABB\STA1\BAY1\REX500 7 Summary of functions The below core functionality is provided with HV/Collect: Recordings saved in REVAL format Automatic printout using REVAL Generation of information files for RESDA Manual and automatic uploading of disturbances to Station PC and Remote PC Display of recording locations (Central PC, Station PC or terminal) Manual trig of a recording Clear recordings stored in the recorder Conversion to COMTRADE format Viewing of Fault location data Viewing of Internal terminal events Viewing of Digital channel data Viewing of Analog channel data Manual and automatic file transfer from Station PC to Remote PC Print out of disturbance list Print out of disturbance data (Analog channels, Digital channels, Event and Fault location) Manual and automatic file transfer of disturbance data files from Station PC to Remote PC 1MRK UEN*
