2 WARRANTY Z Technology Inc. warrants to its Customers that the products it manufactures and sells will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of delivery. If any such product proves defective during the application warranty period, Z Technology Inc. at it s option, either will repair the defective product without charge for parts and labor or will provide a replacement in exchange for the defective product. In order to obtain service under this warranty, Customer must notify Z Technology Inc. of the defect before the expiration of the warranty period and make suitable arrangements for the performance of service. Z Technology Inc. will provide such service at its headquarters or at one of its authorized service centers. Customer shall be responsible for all taxes, duties, packaging, shipping and insuring of the defective product to the service center designated by Z Technology Inc. with all these expenses prepaid. Z Technology Inc. shall pay for return shipping to Customer at the same location from which the product was shipped. This warranty shall not apply to any defect, failure or damage caused by improper use or improper or inadequate maintenance and care. Z Technology Inc. shall not be obligated to furnish service under this warranty a) to repair damage resulting from attempts by personnel other than Z Technology Inc. representatives to install, repair or service the product; or b) to repair damage resulting from improper use or connection to incompatible equipment. 6 Option TSR Product Overview Overview Section 2: Option TSR Product Overview This document will describe how to use the DSS5600 DriveTest system with Option TSR-ASI to view decoded individual program streams or a mosaic of up to 6 program streams on the DriveTest PC. Option TSR-ASI is an add-on to the DSS5600 DVB DriveTest System consists of a hardware device, the ASIPod, and three software programs. The ASIPod from Alitronika converts the ASI transport stream output of the 5600 DVB Decoder into a USB format readable by a PC. The three software programs are: DvsStation3 TSReaderPro VideoLan Client Used primarily to install a device driver that can be used by TSReaderPro. Can be used for many other purposes but not within the scope of this document. Used to show decoded transport stream information such as PIDs and PID bandwidths. Also displays program stream thumbnails. Is used in the context of this document to de-mux Transport Streams into individual Program Streams and forward them to a UDP port. Can be used for many other purposes but not within the scope of this document. Two instances of VLC are used. The first instance of VLC runs in background mode, it re-encodes individual Program Streams from a UDP port to smaller 320 x 240 pixels streams it places the smaller streams on a 2 x 3 video mosaic then creates a new Transport Stream sent to an http port. The second instance of VLC reads the stream on the http and plays the 2 x 3 video mosaic on the PC screen while playing the audio from a selected video stream. Transport Stream Reader Professional software (TSReader Pro) installed on the PC decodes the transport stream data in real time. TSReader Pro allows the user to view the PID hierarchy starting with the Program Allocation Table (PAT), the content description of each PID, the PID bit rate and percentage of total bandwidth usage, MPEG-2 Statistics, and thumbnails of each video program stream. Additionally the user may view pie charts of PID bandwidth usage, Closed Caption text of a particular PID, Electronic Programming Guide grid, ETR-290 Stream Monitoring, and a user place-able window containing a mosaic of video thumbnails. The ASIPod is located underneath the PC tray in the system next to the back of the meter. There is an LED indicator between the USB and mini BNC connectors (see below.) 8 Introduction Section 3: Software Installation & Operation It is assumed that you are familiar with the normal operation of your DSS5600 DriveTest system. This information is in addition to the information in the DSS5600 User Manual (and Supplements and Updates.) Below is a screen capture of the DSS5600 Option TSR-ASI desktop showing shortcuts installed at the Z Technology Factory. Double click on the DriveTest 2 shortcut in the top row to start DriveTest. Open a Job and enter the frequency of the RF channel you want to see. In DriveTest click Sample or click View:Spectrum Display to have DriveTest tune the DSS5600 Decoder to the RF Frequency you are interested in monitoring. Minimize DriveTest to expose the other Desktop shortcuts. DSS5600 Option TSR-ASI User Manual Page 3-1

9 Section 3: Operation At the left edge of the desktop above the windows START button are two shortcuts of interest. The TSReaderPro shortcut, and the VLC media player shortcut. These will start the application with no extra features enabled, in its generic default mode. This may be useful if wanting some information not included in this document description but included in 3 rd party documentation. Clicking on the TSReaderPro shortcut attach to (see below) will bring up a window asking for what device to Note the default device source is Alitronika2345.dll, this uses the device driver that was installed by the installation of Alitronika DvsStation3. Double click on Default, TSReader will open. You should see the LED indicator on the ASIPod change from Flashing to solid ON as TSReader configures the ASIPod for receiving a transport stream and the ASIPod locks to the transport stream coming from the DSS5600 DVB decoder. 10 Section 3: Operation The wheel in the bottom right corner should start spinning indicating TSReader is receiving transport stream, as the transport stream is decoded the above charts are filled in. At the right are thumbnails of received program streams. These thumbnails by default update only on program startup. They can be configured to update continually but for our purpose it is an un-necessary use of CPU time. (If you want the thumbnails to update continually select a time of 10 to 15 seconds or longer. Click Settings:Thumbnail Thread:Refresh rate/maximum pictures then enter in the number of seconds between refreshes, then click OK. ) TSReader is configured to start VideoLan Client (VLC) to play a program stream by double clicking on one of the thumbnails, a new window opens playing the selected program stream (see below.) 11 Section 3: Operation You can see a static mosaic display of all program stream thumbnails by clicking View:Video Mosaic in TSReader. Close TSReader by clicking on the X box in the upper right of the window. Live Video Mosaic To see a live video mosaic display of all program streams you will use the shortcuts at the top of the desktop, with a short pause between each. double clicking on them left to right in succession 1. Double click on the TSReaderPro-Forwarding shortcut.this will open TSReader in a forwarding mode. All program streams on the incoming transport stream will be decoded and forwarded to individual UDP ports. DSS5600 Option TSR-ASI User Manual Page 3-4

12 Section 3: Operation Note there are two spinning wheels in the bottom right. The right most is indicating the incoming transport stream, the other is indicating the outgoing program streams to UDP ports. These ports are internal to the PC. 2. After you see the top Forwarding Status-Default window fill with the decoded program streams, then double click on the RunMosaic6 shortcut. This will start a background instance of VideoLan Client. It will read the individual program streams from the UDP ports, trans-code them down to 320 x 240 pixels, then mux them into a 3 x 2 mosaic, and create a new transport stream of the resulting mosaic sending that to an HTTP port. On the PC screen all you will see is the RunMosaic6 command window that is opened to start the process (See below.) DSS5600 Option TSR-ASI User Manual Page 3-5

13 Section 3: Operation VLC will be running in background, to see that it is running type CTRL ALT DEL select the Start Task Manager and the Processes Tab. Look for vlc.exe. If you close the RunMosaic6 Command window VLC will continue to run in background, to close it you ll need to use the CloseVLC shortcut. 3. Double click on the VLC Play Mosaic shortcut. This will start a second instance of VideoLan Client that will read the HTTP port and play the incoming transport stream. DSS5600 Option TSR-ASI User Manual Page 3-6

14 Section 3: Operation There are several VLC keyboard shortcuts that are useful at this point. f - full screen (toggle) l (lower case L) - next audio track m - mute audio (toggle) 4. To close VLC double click on the CloseVLC shortcut. This will close both instances of VideoLan Client (background and foreground). Then Close TSReader by either clicking File:Exit, or clicking on the X on the upper right corner. Note: The above desktop shortcuts are programmed to use VideoLan Client version 0.8.6a. There are newer versions of VideoLan Client available however their command line structure is different. Installing a newer version of VideoLan Client will break the function of these desktop shortcuts. VideoLan Client version 0.8.6a is included on the cdrom supplied with this Option TSR-ASI. 15 Section 3: Operation Software Installation The DSS5600 Option TSR-ASI is pre-installed and configured on your DSS5600 DriveTest System. If you need to re-install for some reason please contact the factory for specific configuration instructions.
