1.6 App Installation The knxpresso App can be downloaded and installed directly on tablets / phones. To do so, you must install the knxpresso App on your Android device using the Google Play Store.

5 1.6 App Installation The knxpresso App can be downloaded and installed directly on tablets / phones. To do so, you must install the knxpresso App on your Android device using the Google Play Store. Alternatively, you can download the App from our website When the knxpresso App is started for the first time, the App automatically searches for an IP interface or IP router. The following page will appear. From now on, the Tablet / Phone is also a KNX device. In "Settings" the programming button can be pressed to assign a physical KNX address to the device. The parameterization with the ETS 4/5 can then be loaded into the tablet (see Installation of the configuration tool). 1.7 Folder Structure The directory "_knxpresso" is created in the main directory of the tablet after opening the App for the first time. 6 Folders used and their contents: Background_Image, contains background images of individual pages / rooms of a project. 7 1.7.1 Overview of the files used The following files are required in the "_knxpresso" folder of the Tablet / Phone. knxpresso_ui.xml Page description file, is created by the ETS or the stand-alone tool during the configuration. knxpresso_com.xml Communication parameter file which is generated automatically when the App is started for the first time. Structure of the file "knxpresso_com.xml", see the description knxpresso_communication.pdf. The following files are generated automatically when the corresponding functions are parameterized by the App. knxpresso_time.xml Time orders defined with the App s Time Trigger function. knxpresso_scene.xml defined by the App s scenes and scenes trigger function. knxpresso_e_mail.xml notifications defined by the App s function. Recommendation: All files should be saved to a PC project directory after each update. If necessary, these can then be copied back onto the tablet. During a new installation (for example, a new tablet / phone), all the functions are available again. Document: June Version V1.0.5 Page 7/12

8 1.7.2 Subdirectories The following subdirectories in the "_knxpresso" directory are used by the App Background_Image Background images of the individual project pages. The files are called e.g. KnXpresso_Background_Page19.JPG, where the number identifies the page of the project in which this background image is to be displayed. Each operating page can thus be provided with its own background image. The background pages are assigned to the App pages by the following naming. Page 1: knxpresso_background_page1.jpg Page 2: knxpresso_background_page2.jpg, etc. If the same background image is to be used for each page, the background image must be copied accordingly and the file name of the page number must be adapted accordingly (see the naming above) DIA Show The directory contains the photo files to be displayed during the DIA Show Logger During the operation, data can be traced for the purpose of error analysis. The data is stored in this directory. You can change the level of detail of the data in the App settings. In addition, the recording of group messages can also be stored in the file "knxpresso_telegram_connection_x.xml". The file can be analysed using the ETS 4/ OEM For the own "look and feel" of an OEM customer. It can be a company logo (default is the knxpresso_icon.jpg) which is then fixed at the beginning of the running bar (for example, room names). 9 To use an own logo, just rename your own company logo into knxpresso Icon.jpg. In addition, a start and end image can be stored here. The images must have the following names. Start image: End image: knxpresso_start_screen.jpg (also a.png format is allowed). knxpresso_end_screen.jpg (also a.png format is allowed). Both images are displayed for about 2 seconds each time you start or shut down the App Data This directory contains data point files for used curve graphs in the display pages Sound This folder stores music files to be used by the App, e.g. it is possible to play a sound file in a defined scene Overlay In addition to the internally available graphics for the control elements, OEM-specific graphics can be stored here, which can then be assigned to the control elements during parameterization. This means that a specialist company can add the "look & feel" to the controls as well as the logo, start and end pages DIAShow If the App is not served, a DIA Show can be started on the tablet after a configurable time. Various parameters, which are necessary for this, have to be set with the App under "Settings" (right symbol above the App's horizontal scroll bar). In the tablet folder "_knxpresso", a subfolder with the name "DiaShow" must be created. The photos *.jpg files are copied to this directory. It is recommended to use all photos with the same resolution. This is an advantage for reasons of space and uniformity. To convert all photos to the same resolution, there are different tools in the network. A program with the name "Shrinker" should be mentioned here. This tool processes all photos in a directory without changing the original files. The reduced files are stored in a subdirectory "Shrinked". 10 Licences The full functionality of the App is activated with an Activation Key. Without a license, 30 operating and output objects of a project can be displayed. With a knxpresso IP module, up to 4 tablets can be operated simultaneously, without further license release. This module is a standard KNX IP module with an implicit knxpresso licensing for 4 knxpresso Applications. If a knxpresso App logs into another KNX IP module, a valid license is required for unrestricted operation How to obtain a license? Under the "Settings" section of the App menu, a unique device ID is displayed for the tablet. When a license is purchased, an activation key is generated for this device ID. This Activation Key is assigned via the "Device ID" dialog and can t operate on a tablet with a different device ID. Not necessary when operating on a knxpresso IP module. 11 1.8 Connection Problems The connection to the KNX bus via an IP interface is described by the file "knxpresso.com". If this file does not exist (also when the Application is started for the first time), it is automatically generated by the App. Also this file can be edited with a standard editor. Several connections could be described, which then tries to establish a connection at the start of the App in the order of the descriptions No connection to the IP-Net The tablet does not connect to the IP network. Please check the WLAN or the LAN connection Not a KNX-IP Interface found The device finds a connection to the IP network, but not to the KNX bus. Possible reasons are: no KNX-IP interface available KNX-IP interface not in the same IP network (keyword network mask) Tablet on the wrong IP network (for example, connected to wrong WLAN) IP address of the KNX-IP interface has changed compared to the initial start of the App. In the "knxpresso_com.xml" file, which is located in the main directory of knxpresso, you can see the Document: June Version V1.0.5 Page 11/12

12 found KNX-IP interfaces. If the IP address does not match that of your IP interface, simply delete the file and restart the App. If the communication file does not exist, it is created again. It is useful to assign fixed IP addresses KNX-IP-Interface reports an error A connection to the IP network and the KNX-IP interface is available. However, the KNX-IP interface reports an error. This can have the following causes. No KNX IP Interface tunnel free because too many tablets are connected. Only as many tablets can be connected as there are tunnels. As a rule, the KNX-IP interfaces have 1-5 tunnels. The number of tunnels can be found in the manufacturer's descriptions. No tunnel present because of a connection termination. If a bad connection to the IP network (such as bad WLAN) has resulted in disconnections, the App tries to build a new tunnel. If there is no free tunnel present, this error Appears. The KNX-IP interface closes tunnels, which no longer have traffic, after Approx. 2 minutes, so that they are available again. Document: June Version V1.0.5 Page 12/12
