3 1 General Information JetVote is a unique learning multiplayer quiz game for the class. Students (or players) have to answer multimedia questions using mobile phones or tablets. Quizzes include text, videos, images or audio questions making each game unique, challenging and fun! JetVote is: Easy to use. Suitable for students of all ages and language levels. Fast. Teachers can set up a quick game for the players in a few seconds. Flexible. Teachers can make their own quizzes quickly and easily with the question editor. Fun! Players watch videos, view images, listen to audio files and then answer questions based on these. Who will win the quiz? 1.1 Minimum System Requirements JetVote Server (laptop or desktop) Operating System Windows 7 SP1+, Windows 10 (Windows XP, Vista & 8.0/8.1 are not fully supported, some features might not work properly) CPU 3 GHz processor or better GPU Support for DirectX v9.0c or better Resolution Minimum 800 x 600 (1920 x 1080 Recommended) RAM Minimum of 2GB, 4GB is recommended Hard Disk 500 MB of available hard-disk space for installation. JetVote Client (mobile phone or tablet) Operating System Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or higher RAM Minimum of 512 MB, 2 GB is recommended Storage Between 50MB and 100MB 3

4 2 Getting Started Before you start please make sure that you have the latest version of the software. You can download it from Important! Please note that all the devices (server & clients) must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. 2.1 Software Installation The software consists of three modules : i) JetVote Server: This is the main module of the application the clients connect to, questions appear and are stored, results are displayed and all the settings, including classes and players, can be configured. ii) JetVote Client: This is the module each player uses to send his/her answers to the server. iii) JetVote Quiz Importer: This is an optional tool you can use to easily import quiz files to the Server. A video installation guide can be found at: Installing the Server a) Run the Server s installation file JetVote_Server_vX.XX, choose the language you want to use during installation and click OK. 4

5 b) Click Next in the Setup Wizard window. c) If you wish to change the installation directory click Browse otherwise click Next. 5

6 d) If you wish to change the Start Menu folder click Browse, otherwise click Next. e) If you do not wish to create a desktop shortcut uncheck the box and click Next. 6

7 f) If you are satisfied with the settings in the setup review window, click Install, otherwise click Back and modify your installation settings. g) Please wait for installation to complete. 7

8 h) Uncheck the box if you do not want to launch the application immediately after setup and then click Finish. Congratulations, you have installed JetVote Server Installing Quiz Packets (Optional) To import Quizzes, you can either manually copy them to the subdirectory JetVote Server_Data\StreamingAssets\quizzes which is located in the destination folder you selected during installation of JetVote Server, or you can use JetVote Quiz Importer. A video guide on JetVote Quiz Importer can also be found at: Warning: 1) You must install JetVote Server first. 2) Any existing quizzes with the same filenames as the quizzes you want to import will be replaced. 8

9 a) Copy JetVote_Quiz_Importer_vX.XX into the folder containing the quizzes you want to import. All quizzes contained in that folder will be automatically imported to JetVote Server. The application does not allow users to select individual quizzes to import. b) Run JetVote_Quiz_Importer_vX.XX, choose the language you want to use during installation and click OK. c) In the information window, click Next. 9

10 d) Click Install to start importing your quizzes. e) When all quizzes have been imported, click Finish. If you do not want to launch JetVote Server, uncheck the box before you click Finish. 10

11 2.1.3 Installing the Client a) Copy JetVote_Client_vX.XX.apk to the internal memory of your device. b) Go to Settings Security and tick Unknown sources to allow installation of apps from sources other than Play Store. c) Run file manager application on your device and click on JetVote_Client_vX.XX.apk in your files to start installation. That s it! Now you can continue by configuring your JetVote Server. 2.2 Main Menu 1. Quit Button. Closes the program, all devices connected to the server will be automatically disconnected. 2. Mute Music & Mute Sound Effects Buttons. Use to turn off or turn on sound. 3. Disconnect All. All clients connected to JetVote Server are instantly disconnected. 4. Manage Button. Allows the server administrator to create/edit player accounts and classes, and change network preferences. 5. Select Quiz. By pressing this button, a list of all available quiz games that are installed on the server will appear. 6. Information Bar. Useful information such as Software version, IP Address, Date is visible in this region. 7. Start Game. The user can start a quiz game after selecting a quiz. Warning! When you open the application for the first time please make sure to create player accounts before you start a game by pressing Manage (4). If you have already created an account you can select a quiz (5) and start a new game (7). 11

12 Please make sure all the players who want to participate in a game session are connected to the server before you start the game (7). The connected players are visible in the top left corner of the main menu screen. 2.3 Managing Player Accounts & Statistics Note: The server will not be detectable by clients when you are viewing the Manage screen Managing Players In this section, the Server Administrator can create, edit or delete player accounts. The administrator can also export statistics for individual accounts. 1. Player List. All the player accounts are listed in the Player list. The maximum number of player accounts that JetVote Server supports is 10, Player List Actions. a. New Player. Creates a new player account. b. Export Player List. Exports the entire player list on the server in CSV file format. 3. Player Details Panel. This panel becomes visible when the Server Administrator clicks on a player name. a. PIN Number. This is the unique code number assigned to a player which is used to connect to the server. The PIN cannot be changed. b. Username. The username that will be visible in a game session. c. First Name. d. Last Name. e. Class. 4. Player Statistics Panel. Here the Administrator can see statistics for all the quizzes that the selected player has participated in. Statistics include Date, Quiz Name, Correct Answers and Score. 12

13 5. Player Options a. Delete. Deletes the account. Warning! This process is irreversible. b. Export CSV. Exports player statistics in CSV file format. c. Export PDF. Exports player statistics in PDF file format. d. Save Changes. Saves any changes made to an account Creating a new Player Account 1. Click on the Manage button in the main menu screen. 2. In the Players screen click on the New button. 3. Fill in the player details. 4. Click on Save to create the account Changing a Player s Class 1. Click on the Manage button in the main menu screen. 2. From the players list, select the player you want to edit. 3. In the Details panel, find the class list. 4. Change the class and click Save Managing Classes In this section, the Server Administrator can view, add, remove or export player classes. 13

14 1. Classes List Box. a. New. Adds a new class. b. Remove. Permanently removes a class from the database. c. Export. Exports the selected class data in CSV file format. 2. Date List. View quizzes by date for the selected class. 3. Games List. Displays all the completed quizzes from the specified date Server Settings Note: In order to apply network changes, restart JetVote Server and the client devices after clicking the Save button. 1. Network Settings a. Server Name. Displays the server network name that will be visible to the clients. b. Broadcast Port. Displays the port number that the server broadcasts on. (Default is 47777) c. Data Port. Displays the data exchange port between server and clients. (Default is 6321) 2. Music and Sound Effects Volume. 14

15 2.4 Playing the Game When all players are connected to the server using their PIN numbers, the Server Administrator can start the quiz. Before each question, there is a multimedia panel. If a question involves a video or audio file, then a play button appears in the center of the screen. For questions without a video or audio component, the panel displays the question number. When the Server Administrator clicks Next the question and the answer choice options are shown on the server and client devices. Each player has a limited amount of time (in seconds) to answer each question. When the players have answered all the questions in the quiz, the game is over. The third and final screen is visible (Podium Screen), which shows the best three players of the current game. The Server Administrator can show additional information like the full scoreboard or the game question statistics Multimedia Quiz Panel 1. Multimedia Label. When a question includes a video or audio file, a play button is available in this place. In all other cases, an image or a text label is visible. 2. Next Button. Continues to the Question panel, allowing players to see the answer choices on the server screen and on the client devices. 15

16 2.4.2 Question panel 1. Status Bar. a. Left Region : Current Question b. Center : Running Quiz Name c. Right Region: Show total questions. 2. Question panel. 3. Timer. Shows how much time players have left to submit their answers. 4. Online Players. You can view the players participating in the current quiz. 5. Game Actions. a. Exit. Instantly disconnects all players; the game ends immediately without saving any statistics. b. Pause. Pauses the timer. c. Answer. Shows the correct answer. d. Next Question. Moves to the next available random question. 16

17 3 Game Over & Results 1. Podium. Shows the three players with the highest scores in the current game. 2. Extra Information. a. Scoreboard. Displays the full scoreboard with all the players who participated in the game and their respective scores. b. Statistics. Shows the percentage of Correct/Incorrect answers for each question. 3. Exit Game. When pressed, players leave the game. 17

18 4 Troubleshooting 1. I can t install the client application on my device. Make sure that your device supports the minimum system requirements. 2. I can t find any server to connect my device. a. Check the client device to make sure that Wi-Fi is turned on and connected to the same network as the server. b. Disable any Firewall and/or antivirus software that might be installed on the server. c. Check that you have the latest version of JetVote installed on the server and the client. d. Make sure the server is not in the Manage Screen panel when clients are searching for it. 3. The application sometimes delays when operating. Make sure that your device supports the minimum system requirements. 18
