1 Experiment 7 : RFID Introduction to Contactless Smart Card Objectives : To use a RFID reader to create commands to communicate with the contactless smart card. Equipment : Accesso Reader INSIDE Contactless Coupler Mx Component Application program. Introduction : In this experiment, you will learn how to configure the Accesso Reader, a RFID coupler to read and write RFID contactless smart card. Creating of Command In order to obtain card information from coupler, user would have to familiarise with the types of commands used to communicate with the coupler: The host sends a command to the coupler The coupler executes the command The host receives a response from the coupler The coupler command is always constituted of 5 bytes: CLASS : Always 80Hex INSTRUCTION : Command to be executed by the coupler (e.g. Ask Radom Number) P1 : Command Parameter 1 P2 : Command Parameter 2 P3 : Command Parameter 3 There are 4 cases of data exchange between host (computer) coupler and coupler card which is as follows: Case 1: The host sends a command and receives the status word. SELECT_PAGE A6h Selects a page in a multi-application chip. TRANSMIT GET_RESPONSE C2h C0h Sends and retrieve data from chip through contactless interface : Transparent mode. Reads the internal buffer of the coupler to retrieve chip answer for ISO 7816 T=0 protocol. READ_STATUS F2h Reads coupler status or EEPROM memory. SET_STATUS F4h Sets the coupler status or write in EEPROM memory. DISABLE_COUPLER ADh ENABLE_COUPLER AEh Disables the coupler. it will only respond after a ENABLE_COUPLER command. Enable the coupler. It wakes up the coupler after a DISABLE_COUPLER command. ASK_RANDOM 84h Ask for a random number from the coupler. April ITE/EC5103PA

3 When an error occurs, coupler response is only status words SW1 SW2. No data is returned. Plug the Inside Accesso Coupler to the computer USB port. 2. Activate the INSIDE Contactless Coupler Mx Component Application program. April ITE/EC5103PA

4 3. Before you click on the Connect Reader, you need to check which Com Port the Accesso Reader is connected to by looking at the Device Manager. In this case, the Accesso Reader is connected to COM A Detect ISO7816 T=0 Reader window indicating the port communication would pop out once you select the Connect Reader. 5. Upon successful connection, the Accesso Reader would return its Type and serial number. Note down the return information on the sheet provided. April ITE/EC5103PA

5 6. Now select the Script option, and select the F:\CPA folder through the Explorer window. Explorer Window Command TaskBar Workspace Window Command Window Trace Window 7. Now, you need to create a new command in order to communicate with the coupler by selecting the New icon on the Command TaskBar. 8. A Command Edit Form window would appear. Create a new command know as Get Configuration. Enter the command as shown below. April ITE/EC5103PA

6 9. Upon creating of the Get Configuration command, double click on the command to activate it. You would be able to see the coupler return you some successful data. 10. Now, you need to create few more command in order for the coupler/reader to access your EZ-Link Card.
