3 2. Using the cursor keys, select the desired configuration application. 3. Connect the cable to check reader and verify that the green light is lit. 4. Pass the Configuration Check through the reader and verify that the light is still lit green. 5. Press [D] to begin the download.

4 On-Line User s Guide Press [F9] to enter the User s guide and [Esc] to exit. ChekLoad is easy to use. ChekLoad has one basic purpose: to allow you to quickly and easily download configurations into Checkmate s check readers. It provides a simple, menued interface that shows you the descriptions of the configurations available for download. You select a configuration with the cursor keys. Then, a simple, single keystroke command will download the selected configuration into a check reader. See the section below for keystroke commands, command line options, and error message explanations. Keystroke Options Use these keys while ChekLoad is running to activate various functions: [Alt-D] Download selected configuration to the check reader repeatedly. [Alt-T] Activate terminal mode. Used to test you check reader or to see what a downloaded configuration outputs for a particular check. [Alt-V] Display programmer s comments for current configuration. [D] Download selected configuration to the check reader. [End] Move to bottom of screen, or bottom of list. [Enter] Display detailed description for current configuration. [Esc] Exit program and return to DOS. [F1] Display this Help screen. [F2] Add configurations to the maste list from a diskette placed in your drive A. [F3] Add configurations to the maste list from a diskette placed in your drive B. [F4] Create a backup copy of this program and all configurations in the master list to a diskette placed in your drive A. [F5] Create a backup copy of this program and all configurations in the master list to a diskette placed in your drive B. [F9] Display the on-line User Guide. [Home] Move to top of screen, or top of a list. [PgUp] Scroll screen up by one page. [PgDn] Scroll screen down by one page. Command Line Options These are all of the words that can be specified on the command line when you start the ChekLoad program. For example, to cause the ChekLoad to communicate with the check reader on port COM2 instead of the default COM1, use the following command to start ChekLoad: CHEKLOAD COM2

5 Note that the ChekLoad will remember the last set of command line options used, so that the options are only necessary the first time you want to change a setting. Here are the available command line options: COLOR COM1 COM2 COM3 COM4 DETECT LCD Mono Enable color display support (default). Select COM1 as the programming port (default). Select COM2 as the programming port. Select COM3 as the programming port. Select COM4 as the programming port. List all serial ports installed in the system. Enable LCD display support. Enable monochrome display support. Error Message Guide Application Download Complete! Download was successfully completed to the check reader. Application Download Aborted! User pressed [Esc] key during download. Backup Complete! Backup of files to the specified floppy has successfully completed. Error during system backup! An error occurred during the backup procedure. Check the floppy disk for bad sectors, and possibly reformat the floppy disk using the DOS FORMAT program. Error reading specified drive! Either the floppy disk door is open, the floppy is not formatted or a critical error occurred during the file copy function. There is no description for this application. The current file does not contain any description text lines. You may view the file for more information or hit [Alt-V] to see the file comments. Specified serial port is not available! The serial port specified in the configuration file or specified from a command line option does not exist. Check your system configuration and try again. There is no description for this application. Application files do not have to have descriptions. Descriptions are completely optional and are only for informational purposes. You may use the [Alt-V] comment viewer command to see the comments are descriptive enough to answer your questions.

6 Download SUCCESSFUL. indicates that the check reader was successfully downloaded with the selected configuration. Download complete, Connect Next Unit and press a key or Esc to quit. indicates that the check reader was successfully downloaded with the selected configuration. Downloading file indicates that the check reader is accepting configuration information. ERROR: Could not init comm port! This is one of the messages that is displayed while the check reader is being downloaded. The serial communications port you selected for ChekLoad to use may be broken or nonexistent. Please verify that you have the correct serial port selected and try the download again. The serial port that ChekLoad uses can be changed with a command line option. Please see instructions below. ERROR: Could not write config filename to EEPROM! indicates a communications error with the check reader. ERROR: No ACK from UNIT! This is one of the messages that is displayed while the check reader is being downloaded. Check the cable connection to the check reader and run the Host Port Configuration check through the check reader and try your download process again. ERROR: reading specific drive! The drive you attempted to read from is an invalid drive. Please make sure the drive is ready and try the operation again. Sending clear eeprom (except MC, AMP, & SN) cmd indicates that any prior configuration that the check reader may contain is being erased prior to downloading the new configuration. Sending end of config command. indicates that the check reader is saving the downloaded configuration in its non-volatile memory. This is the last step of the configuration process. Specified COM Port is invalid! indicates that the serial port that ChekLoad is trying to use is not functioning or not present.

7 Writing config filename to EEPROM... indicates that ChekLoad is logging the same name of the downloaded configuration in the check reader.
