11 Chapter 1 SED2 EasyComm Chapter 1 - SED2 EasyComm Overview SED2 EasyComm provides the following capabilities: Storing drive parameter sets Entering drive setpoints Specifying drive parameters Performing drive diagnostics Download drive parameters EasyComm can toggle between online and offline operation and allows you to specify drive parameters in either operating mode. When defining parameters for a drive, EasyComm allows you to generate a completely new parameter set or to insert an existing parameter set, which can then be modified as necessary. SED2 EasyComm operates and functions similar to other Microsoft Windows programs via keyboard interactions, drop-down menus, pop-up menus, and toolbar icons. NOTE: Because EasyComm operates in a Windows environment, it is assumed that you are familiar with standard Windows functions. For example, "click" means the left mouse button; right-click means the right mouse button. Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. 3

19 Chapter 3 Startring EasyComm USB to RS232 Serial interface As more USB devices have become available, many PC manufacturers no longer supply a RS232 Serial Communications port by default but include multiple USB ports for ease of use. There are many manufacturers of USB to serial interfaces; this document is geared toward the SBT product (P/N: PXA-USBADAPTER) as this unit has been tested. However, these steps should work with any USB to serial interface. When a USB to RS232 Serial Interface is first inserted into an USB port the operating system will prompt for installation and when complete, assign it a new COM port number that was previously not used. This COM port number depends on the number of USB interfaces that the computer has as well as the devices that were previously used on the computer. The COM port number of the USB to RS232 Serial interface must be known in order to select the correct COM port in the EasyComm software to establish the online connection. This COM port number can be checked in the Device Manager and/or modified as required. To verify the COM port number assigned by the operating system, complete the following steps: 1. From the Start Menu, select Settings Control Panel (See Figure 10). Figure 10. Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. 11

45 Chapter 5 - Basic Functions Managing Parameter Sets A parameter set is a file that contains parameter numbers with corresponding parameter values. A parameter set can contain all SED2 parameters or just some of the SED2 parameters. In offline mode, parameter values can be read from and written to a parameter set, similar to programming parameters for a drive that is connected in online mode. With EasyComm, you can generate as many parameter sets as required, save them under different file names, and download them to various drives. When viewing parameters, the Parameters menu allows you to view them based on the following categories: Function groups: inverter (SED2 Drive) motor commands and digital I/O s (digital inputs and outputs) ADC and DAC (analog inputs and outputs) setpoint channel and RFG drive features motor control communication alarms/warnings/monitoring technology controller (PID controller) Quick commissioning Factory settings BiCo (binector/connector) functions Selecting and Changing Parameter Values You can select a parameter value (except read-only parameters) as follows: 1. Scroll to the desired parameter. Double-click anywhere in the row of that parameter. A dialog box for the selected parameter appears. 2. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to locate the desired parameter. Press ENTER. A dialog box for the selected parameter appears. 3. Select the P No. column and then enter the number of the parameter with no leading zeros. For example, enter 100 for parameter P0100. Press ENTER. A dialog box for the selected parameter appears. 4. Enter the desired value in the parameter dialog box and click OK. Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. 37

46 SED2 EasyComm Startup and Operating Instructions NOTE: The valid limit values (minimum and maximum values) for certain parameters depend on the maximum output of the drive (such as rated current and voltage). In offline mode, EasyComm does not of know the maximum output of the drive. Therefore, for these parameters, you must observe the limit values that must be maintained. For example: Scroll to Parameter P0700[001]. Double-click anywhere in the P0700 row. A P0700 Selection of Command Source dialog box appears. Enter 4, USS on BOP Link and click OK. Scroll to Parameter P0718. Double-click anywhere in the P0718 row. A P0718 CO/BO: Hand/Auto dialog box appears. Scroll to Parameter P1000[001]. Double-click anywhere in the P1000 row. A P1000 Selection of Frequency Setpoint dialog box appears. Enter 4, USS on BOP Link and click OK. Now you can start, stop, and command the SED2 using the EasyComm status bar controls. NOTE: When done using EasyComm, change the P0700[001] setting back to 1, BOP (Keypad), P0718 setting back to 0, Auto, and the P1000[001] setting back to 1, MOP Setpoint. Creating New Parameter Sets You can create a new parameter set using the following methods: Generating parameter sets based on the factory setting Generating empty parameter sets Generating a parameter set by comparing two existing parameter sets Generating a parameter set by uploading the parameters from a drive Copy an existing parameter set by saving it under a new name 38 Siemens Building Technologies, Inc.

47 Chapter 5 - Basic Functions Generating Parameter Sets Based on the Factory Setting A parameter set based on the factory settings contains all of the parameters and values that are set in a drive at the factory. This also includes parameters that cannot be changed (read-only parameters). If you work with a parameter set file in the offline mode, you will see the parameter values on the EasyComm screen, which were set when the drive was shipped or a drive where the factory setting were re-established. You can change parameters offline and then transfer the revised file online to the drive (download) as follows: 1. Put the drive in offline mode. 2. From the File menu, click New and then Based on Factory Setting. Generating Empty Parameter Sets Initially, an empty parameter set does not contain any parameter values. If you work offline with such a file, and select a parameter, the value initially appears as five question marks (?????). Enter parameter values to replace the question marks. The parameter set then contains the number of parameters which you have entered. This means that a subsequent download is especially effective. 1. Put the drive in offline mode. 2. From the File menu, click New and then Empty parameter set. Recalling Parameter Set (Parameter Sets Last Dealt With ) To list the four most recently accessed parameter sets: From the File menu, click Parameter Sets Last Dealt With Accessing the Complete Parameter List To access the complete parameter list: From the Parameter List menu,. or click Parameters Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. 39
