2 Enabling the Option Code The Tally Box option for a Broadcast Pix Slate system is intended to output the Program tally through an external contact closure connected through a USB port. There are two tally boxes: Option #28, which consists of 8 tallies/general Purpose Outputs (GPOs) and 8 General Purpose Inputs (GPIs) and Option #24, which consists of 24 tallies/general Purpose Outputs (GPOs). To use either external tally/gpio box the System Option Code needs to be enabled. These Option Codes are pre installed on all new systems. For upgrades to existing systems the code needs to be manually entered. All Option Codes are linked to the Slate Main Board serial number. For more information regarding tally/gpios refer to the Broadcast Pix Operators Manual, which can be found under the Help, About menu in BPswitcher. To Enable the Tally Box Option Code: 1. Start the BPswitcher application by double clicking the switcher icon on the desktop. 2. On the Setup drop down window, select the System Options menu, as shown on the right. 3. The Options window will appear, under the Select option to enable drop down menu, choose the Tally box option, as shown on the right. 4. In the Enter option key code text field, enter the Tally box Option code. This option code is provided on the Option Code Card inside the Accessories box of the workstation. If the code has been misplaced, contact Technical Support. 5. Click on the Enable option button and click on Close. 6. For the option to be enabled, the application needs to be restarted. A restart pop up message will appear, as shown on the right, click on OK. 7. Close the BPswitcher application by selecting the File, Quit menu and restart the application. 3 Installing the Tally Box Drivers When the tally box option is purchased with a new unit the appropriate drivers are pre installed at the factory, there is no need to re install the drivers. On upgrades to existing systems, where the tally box option is purchased after receiving a system, you will need to manually load the drivers for the Tally Box, with the install CD that s included with the tally box. To install the Tally Box drivers: 1. Insert the Measurement Computers driver disc into the CD tray of the workstation. 2. Navigate to the CD drive (Drive E), and double click on the Measurement Computing icon. This will open the install window, as shown to the right. 3. Click on the Install button to install the drivers. 4. Once the drivers are installed a pop up window will appear confirming the installation. Click on the Finish button to save and exit the installation process. 5. Connect the tally box to the workstation with the supplied USB cable and plug in the power with the supplied power supply to an electrical socket. 6. To confirm the installation, navigate to the Start Menu, All Programs, Measurement Computing, InstaCal. This will launch the InstaCal software program, as shown on the right. 7. Your tally box device will appear under the Universal Serial Bus section, click on the board number to highlight it. Click on the yellow Digital Test button, to confirm communication to the tally box. 8. The Board Test window, as shown on the right, click on the Test button. You should hear the tally box click once, if the installation was successful. If not, check your connections to the tally box and to the workstation and retest. 9. 4 Installing the Tally Box Run a set of wires from each terminal in the Tally Box to each terminal on your camera/camera unit, one to Program and the other to the Ground, as shown below. On the 8 port tally box, terminal 0 through 7 corresponds to Slate/Router input 1 through input 8. On the 24 port tally box, terminal 1 through 24 corresponds to Slate/Router input 1 through 24. NO (Normally Open) goes to Program and C (Common) goes to Ground. NC (Normally Closed) is not used. The Tally box uses one of the computers USB ports, and needs to be plugged into an electrical socket with the supplied power supply. 2 LEDs should illuminate when power is connected: External Power should be solid green, Status solid green when connected to the workstation and flashing green when the workstation is communicating to the tally box. Each relay contact is rated at 6 amps at 120 volts AC or 28 volts DC. The convenient screw terminals can accept cable from 12 to 22 AWG. The Tally Box does not supply any voltage for tally. Voltage must be provided by your Camera Control Units or other source. The Tally Box only opens and closes the tally circuit. Check your Camera Control Unit s user manual for more information. 5 Installing Multiple Tally Boxes A standard system usually uses one tally box, however multiple tally boxes may be installed on a Broadcast Pix system. Multiple tally boxes expands the number tally outputs as well the number of General Purpose Inputs and Outputs (GPIOs), which can be used with Fluent Macros. Up to 12 Tally/GPIO boxes may be connected for a maximum 96 GPIs and 288 GPOs. Installation is the same, as described in section of the operators manual, however each tally box must be assigned to a specific board number. To assign multiple tally boxes: 1. Ensure that the Measurement Computing/InstaCal software is installed, as described in section 1.2.4, and open the InstaCal software by navigating to Start Menu, All Programs, Measurement Computing, InstaCal. 2. Your tally box devices will appear under the Universal Serial Bus section, as shown on the right. Right click on a device, and a pop up menu will appear. 3. Select Change Board #..., as shown on the right. 4. In the Use Board Number window, select the desired board number. 0 (zero) is the first tally box used for GPIOs 1 8, 1 is the second tally box used for GPIOs 9 16, etc. 5. Click on OK. 6.
