Chapter 1. Introduction The JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes describe the new features that are available in this release. They also list the development issues that are known to exist in this release, and the issues that have been resolved since the 1.0 release. New Features in JabberNow 1.1 New features in JabberNow 1.1 include the following: Support for the AIM Gateway from Jabber, Inc. has been built into the JabberNow appliance. The gateway enables your JabberNow users to send and receive instant messages with AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) users. An Active Directory (LDAP/JDS) plugin can be purchased and installed on the JabberNow appliance. This plugin allows you to manage user accounts by integrating with Microsoft Active Directory Suite (ADS) 2000 or A Message Archiver plugin can be purchased and installed on the JabberNow appliance. This plugin installs additional features over the Message Archiver Lite service, including built-in archiving to a PostgreSQL database. Additionally, it allows you to export messages to an external database. Administrator sessions are now SSL Encrypted. To use this feature, you must enter https rather than http preceding the JabberNow URL. Certificates can now be uploaded to the JabberNow appliance to replace default XCP certificates. Administrators can now view and modify JabberNow s network settings. JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes Introduction Page 5

Upgrading JabberNow Administrators can restart JabberNow from the administrative GUI in addition to shutting it down. Server-2-Server TLS has been exposed in the JabberNow administrative GUI so that administrators can enable and disable it. Users can now skip the training video in the user portal and go directly to the account creation feature. The license file can now be uploaded to the JabberNow appliance rather than being copied and pasted. Upgrading JabberNow This section applies only if you are currently running JabberNow and plan to upgrade to version 1.1. You can upgrade directly to JabberNow 1.1 if you are running version 1.0.1; however, if you are running version 1.0, you must first upgrade to before you can upgrade to 1.1. To upgrade JabberNow 1. On the Device/Status tab in the JabberNow administrative GUI, click Check for Update in the center panel. The Check System for Updates panel displays. 2. Click the Check For Update link located above the Browse button. The web page opens. Page 6 Introduction JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes

Chapter 2. Getting Started This chapter provides first-time setup instructions that you may find helpful if you are a new JabberNow customer. In addition to these Release Notes, you should have received: The JabberNow appliance A power cable A wall-mount bracket When removing the JabberNow appliance from the box, you must unfold the packaging instead of cutting it. Cutting the packaging may damage the JabberNow appliance. You are just a few steps away from deploying JabberNow on your network. Deployment Considerations You can configure JabberNow for local access only, where all messaging occurs behind your firewall. You can also configure JabberNow for remote access, enabling users outside your firewall to access JabberNow. Finally, if you want to enable JabberNow to communicate with any Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP)-based systems outside your firewall, you must configure your network for the Server-to-Server feature. JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes Getting Started Page 9

Deployment Considerations Local Configuration In the local configuration, the JabberNow appliance and all of the client computers are part of the same network and behind the firewall. For this option, JabberNow must be attached to your LAN and configured with a static IP address. (You will configure the static IP address during JabberNow setup, as described in Step 4.) While not mandatory, we recommend that the Domain Name System (DNS) on your network can resolve JabberNow s full hostname to its static IP address. If not, JabberNow clients will need to know the static IP address of JabberNow in order to connect Hub JabberNow Figure 1. Local JabberNow Configuration Page 10 Getting Started JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes

Deployment Considerations Remote Access Configuration You can configure JabberNow for remote access if you want to allow users to access JabberNow from locations outside your firewall. The only difference between this option and the local configuration is that remote users must have access to port 5222 or 5223 on JabberNow and standard Web ports. The full hostname for JabberNow must be resolvable on the Internet. Firewall rules and port forwarding are techniques to accomplish this Internet Port 5222 Router or firewall Hub JabberNow Figure 2. Remote Access JabberNow Configuration Server-To-Server Configuration JabberNow's Server-to-Server (S2S) feature allows you to connect JabberNow to any other XMPP-based system on the Internet and the internal network, thus enabling messaging capabilities with other users beyond your firewall. S2S is enabled by default. JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes Getting Started Page 11

Deployment Considerations To use the S2S feature, your network must be configured with: Access through the router or firewall on port 5269 A default gateway and DNS server An SRV resource record for JabberNow in the DNS database During JabberNow setup (described in Step 4), you must assign a routable static IP address to JabberNow. JabberNow can be made accessible through firewall routing rules or port forwarding. 13 1. Plug in JabberNow 1. Plug in JabberNow To plug JabberNow into your network a. Plug the end of the power cable (Figure 4) into the back of the appliance and the other end of the cable into a surge-protected power outlet. b. Plug a network cable into the back of JabberNow and the other end of the cable into your network (Figure 5). c. Switch on the appliance. Figure 4. Power Cable Figure 5. Network Cable 2. Obtain JabberNow s Initial IP Address You will need to know JabberNow s initial Internet Protocol (IP) address so that you can access JabberNow s Web-based setup interface. The DHCP server assigns the initial IP address to JabberNow when you plug JabberNow into your network. The initial IP address is displayed on the LCD screen on the front of JabberNow. Make a note of the IP address displayed there. JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes Getting Started Page 13

3. Gather Network Settings Information 3. Gather Network Settings Information Use the following table to gather the network settings that you need to know before you begin the JabberNow Web-based setup interface. Static IP Address Obtain the Static IP Address, which is a unique number that JabberNow uses in order to identify and communicate with other computers on a network. For example: Full Hostname Jabber ID Suffix Obtain the hostname, which is the unique name by which JabberNow is known on a network. The full hostname includes the hostname and the domain name. For example: somehost.example.comnote: You need to map the full hostname to the static IP address in your DNS database. In most cases the full hostname and the Jabber ID suffix are the same. This provides the most client compatibility, and makes S2S configuration for JabberNow much easier. For example: somehost.example.com 4. Access the JabberNow Web-Based Setup Interface You must use JabberNow s Web-based setup interface to complete your JabberNow setup and to perform administrative tasks. To access the Web-based setup interface a. Open a Web browser on the computer that you plan to use to set up JabberNow. b. In the address box, enter the initial IP address to access the JabberNow setup interface. For example: c. Follow the instructions on each setup screen to complete the JabberNow setup. During the setup, you will: Change the initial IP address to a static IP address so that client users can access JabberNow. Set the JabberNow full hostname. Page 14 Getting Started JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes

5. Administer JabberNow Create an administrator account to protect your JabberNow configuration. Make note of your administrator username and password. If the username and password are forgotten, you may have to return the JabberNow appliance to have it reset. Set Jabber ID suffix. Print the Congratulation! page that contains your Account Summary including your administrator username and password. 5. Administer JabberNow When you have completed the setup, you can begin creating user accounts and performing other administrative tasks, such as adding plugins, enabling the AIM Gateway from Jabber, Inc. and so on, in the JabberNow administration interface. To get started, go to the Welcome Page at: or IP address> Once you have entered the administration interface, you can access online help by clicking the Help button on the menu bar. In addition, use the Check for Update feature to see if there is a newer version of the JabberNow software. TRAINING AND SELF-REGISTRATION A training video and a user self-registration page are available on your JabberNow appliance. Enter your base URL followed by /userportal. For example: TECHNICAL SUPPORT Contact Us , option 3 JabberNow Support JabberNow FAQ JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes Getting Started Page 15

Chapter 3. Known Issues The following table lists known issues in JabberNow 1.1, including workarounds (when available). Issue Number Description Any user is able to create an admin user with TC administrator permissions. Only administrators should be able to do this. Workaround: The JabberNow administrator should immediately create a Jabber user with the same name as the JabberNow admin (the JID that is inserted as a TC administrator) After you export an archive file, if you left-click the file, sometimes the JM table is displayed, and sometimes you are prompted to save or open the file. Workaround: Right-click the file and save it to the desired location PRID 4287 If your server is configured to use JDS for vcard and does not allow the user to make changes, you cannot disable the user s ability to edit his profile in the client. When a user attempts to change his profile, the server sends a 500 error and JM displays the following message: Unable to change the current profile. An unknown server error occurred. Contact your administrator. JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes Known Issues Page 17

Page 18 Known Issues JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes

Chapter 4. Resolved Issues The following issues have been resolved in the JabberNow 1.1 release. Issue Number Description Signed certificates can now be uploaded to the JabberNow appliance When an invalid license file is uploaded to JabberNow, an error message now displays When Max users is set to 0, which indicates unlimited users, the system summary now displays infinite for the number or licenses An error message is now displayed when a user attempts to install the license without specifying a destination, or specifying an incorrect destination A user who has been disabled is now indicated as such in the list of users in the User Administration tab A problem that caused a re-posting warning to display in the browser after a user was added has been resolved Confirm messages now correctly identify the action that was taken; i.e., upgrade versus plugin installation You can now enter JID domain names that contain hyphens A misspelling has been corrected in the JabberNowArchive URL. If you have this URL bookmarked, you will need to change it PRID 3860 Previously, the redirect for hostname/index.html redirected to the IP address, not the hostname. This has been resolved so that it now redirects to the hostname The list of licenses users is now based on the registration with the server and not the registration with the Jabber User Directory. Therefore, a user is no longer able to delete his own JUD registration. JabberNow 1.1 Release Notes Chapter 4. Resolved Issues Page 19

Issue Number Description When you change the Administrator password, an error message is now displayed when all required information has not been supplied; for example, when the password is not confirmed A Cancel User Creation link has been added so that users can cancel the account creation process You can now enable and disable StartTLS for S2S PRID 4105 A problem causing users not to be able to log in to JabberNow without a system restart has been resolved Under System Controls in the JabberNow Administrative GUI, when Jabber XCP is OFF, Server-to-Server now displays as OFF as well JabberNow can now be configured with a hostname and a static IP address that do not match.
