If this is not possible a base with pole mount can be supplied at a small extra cost. The camera lens needs to somewhere between 60cm - 100cm away from the sample OR more than 130cm away. Wall mount The system works best on a Windows 7 (or newer), 64-bit PC. Please refer to the minimum PC specifications section on page 2.

3 Page 2 2. PC Specification: Please note that these are the MINIMUM PC requirements for running the Macro-imager system. We would encourage users to use the best possible specification PC they can afford. Processor: Core i3 / AMD (prefer i5 or better with quad core ) - over 2Ghz if possible. RAM (Memory): 4GB DDR3 (8GB better) USB: 2x USB3 ports 3x USB2 ports Operating system: Windows 7 32-bit or newer (64-bit systems preferred). Storage: 500GB HDD (SSD is faster) Graphics: Intel HD graphics 4600 (or equivalent) Display: 21.5" (or larger) Full HD monitor 1920 x 1080 resolution. 3. Initial set-up part 1 - Setting the image destination folder and structuring the saved images: Double-click the Macro-imager desktop icon or go to C:\Program Files (x86) \ Micropix ltd \ Macro Imager \ MacroImager Press ctrl button and T simultaneously to access the Configuration window:

4 Page 3 Set the output folder for the images. Select whether you want to Auto-create Speciality Directories (more info below). Set the JPEG quality - we recommend 90%. Set the default zoom position - the zoom position on initial camera start-up and where the zoom will go if you press the DEFAULT button on the zoom controls. White balance will be set and fixed as part of the installation but you can manually adjust it using Red Ratio / Blue Ratio or press One Push to auto white balance. Images are all stored within a folder using the Sample Number. These folders can either be in the root directory (e.g. found in the single folder that you have set as the output folder) or organised by Speciality: Auto-create Speciality Directories ticked (sample number folders found within each speciality folder): Auto-create Speciality Directories un-ticked (new folder created for each new sample number): Image data can be customised. You can edit the list of Users, Speciality and Sub-speciality items using XML Notepad. 4. Initial set-up part 2 - Editing the User and Speciality lists: ADMINISTRATOR RIGHTS TO THE PC ARE REQUIRED. The Macro-imager software creates the lists of USERS, SPECIALITY and SUB-SPECIALITY (not titled) from an XML file called SessionOptions. To customise your image data you need to edit the SessionOptions file within XML Notepad. First you need locate the SessionOptions file and give write permission to that folder - THIS PROCESS REQUIRES ADMIN RIGHTS TO THE PC. You also need to give modify permission to the data folder: Changing folder permissions: 1. In Windows Explorer navigate to the Macro Imager folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\micropix Ltd\Macro-imager 2. Right click on the folder, click PROPERTIES and then go to the SECURITY tab. 3. Click EDIT then ADD 4. Type Everyone then click OK 5. Tick the FULL CONTROL BOX. 6. Click APPLY (bottom right) and finally OK. REPEAT THE PROCESS FOR THE FOLDER C:\ProgramData\Micropix (THIS FOLDER IS HIDDEN SO WILL NEED TO BE UNHIDDEN FIRST).

5 Page 4 Back in Windows Explorer go to the folder C:\Program Files (x86) \ Micropix ltd \ Macro Imager, right click on the SessionOptions file and click EDIT WITH XML NOTEPAD. If this option is not available then open the SessionOptions file from XML Notepad. Click the + symbols to expand the folders:

6 Page 5 Here you can see the SpecialityName = Skin and the Sub-specialities linked to it are: Skin Bone Soft Tissue This means that when you start a Session within Macro-imager and click on the SKIN speciality, there will be three further options of Skin, Bone and Soft Tissue: Expanding further SpecialityName folders shows the order of the Specialities (Skin, Breast, Gynae etc) and their sub-specialities - Breast = Mastectomy, Lumpectomy, Other etc.

7 Page 6 To EDIT a speciality simply change the text (and save): To ADD a speciality it is easiest to DUPLICATE and existing one. The new speciality will be created UNDER the one you duplicate. Right click the FOLDER called Speciality. Click Duplicate. This will create a copy of the Speciality including sub-specialities. Simply EDIT the duplicate to create a new Speciality with sub-specialities. To ADD a SUB-SPECIALITY - right click on a sub-speciality and press DUPLICATE. Then edit the text. To delete anything, right click on it and press DELETE. You can click, hold and drag the SPECIALITY FOLDER to reorder your list. You can also click, hold and drag Sub-specialities to re-order them. DON T FORGET TO SAVE YOUR CHANGES!! If you wish to start again a copy of the default SessionOptions XML file can be download from the Micropix website at

Using the Macro-imager software: Open Macro-imager by double-clicking the Macro-imager desktop icon or go to C:\Program Files (x86) \ Micropix ltd \ Macro Imager \ MacroImager Camera controls: Session controls: Adjust image Brightness - / + Zoom Out / In Go to Default zoom position (set within ctrl+t config). STEP - Go to a calibrated zoom position. Untick Auto to manually control focus. Tick Auto to return to auto-focus. Start a Session - see next page. Capture an image (only available during an active session). End the session. Other controls: Load a previously saved image in order to annotate it. Annotate the currently displayed image - click on a thumbnail to annotate a different image. Calibrate the camera.

9 Page 8 In order to save images you need to Start a Session. When you press START SESSION this box appears: The cursor always starts within the Session Number. This means you can simply start typing or scan a barcode and the data will go into the Session Number text box (numbers and letters are acceptable). You MUST have data in each of Session Number, Date, User, Speciality and Sub-speciality in order for the OK button to become available. This data is saved within the image file name which allows you to use Windows Explorer to search for and retrieve images. The Session number (with a sequential image number) can be added to each image. Select the location, text colour and text size (or NONE if not required). Use the camera controls to zoom etc and capture images during a session by pressing CAPTURE SNAPSHOT. DURING a session a link is created in the bottom left corner which will open the image file location in Windows Explorer. You can ANNOTATE images during or after a session. When finished, press END SESSION to clear the thumbnails and link ready for the next sample.

10 Page 9 6. Annotating images (optional software module): Images can be annotated during or after a session. To start annotation you can press ANNOTATE (to annotate the currently displayed live image): OR Click on the THUMBNAIL of the image you wish to annotate. OR Click the LOAD IMAGE button to annotate a previously captured image: The camera control bar will then become the Annotation tool bar and options for colour, line width and text size are at the bottom on the image window: Undo the last annotation. Clear ALL annotations. Draw an arrow (tail to tip). Draw a circle - click on the centre of interest and expand and / or move the circle as required. Drag points are in the centre and top of the circle. Draw a rectangle - click and hold to start drawing the rectangle from the top left corner. Release to place. Drag points are in the centre and corners. Draw a line that is labelled A1. Press again to draw a line labelled A2 etc. Click Next to go to B1. Press Skip to miss a number e.g. A1 Skip A3. Press Reset to start again at A1. Use the options to adjust the format of your letters and numbers. Remove text to just draw a line. Remove the line to just add sequential text. Write text in the box, click the Text button and then click within the image to place the text. The last 30 pieces of text you use are saved in the recently used text box. This is useful if you have recurring text annotations. Add a scale bar to your image (choose length, text size, placement and to display background or not and to invert colours (black / white or white / black) Measure a line (select units of um, mm or cm).

11 Page 10 Each annotation can have a different colour, line width or text size. Set BEFORE you draw the annotation. Press SAVE to save your annotated image. It will be saved with the same file name, in the same folder as the original image except that _antd will be added to the filename so you will not overwrite the original image and you can search annotated images within Windows Explorer. Macro-imager can be loaded onto any PC and images loaded and annotated from the desktop version. The software automatically loads calibration data from the image so that you can still perform line measurements and add scale bars to previously saved images (if you have the calibration software module). 6. Searching images: To search your captured images simply navigate to your root folder in Windows Explorer and type your search commands into the Search box: Windows Explorer uses BOOLEAN commands allowing you to perform detailed searches. For example: Typing the will display all images with that number. Typing urology will display all images with that word. Typing urology AND blogs will show all samples with the words urology AND blogs. Other BOOLEAN commands include: OR NOT The use of quotation marks to specify a term. With practice you can search things like all bladder images taken between Jan - June, Skin samples captured by Dr. Smith, all images captured in December 2015 etc. This is a useful article on how to use Boolean search terms (as at May 2016):

12 Page Warranty statement: Macro-imager Warranty Comprehensive 2 year parts and labour warranty This document is to confirm that there is a comprehensive 2 year parts and labour warranty on Macroimager. This warranty covers all aspects of repair and maintenance required during normal use for a 2 year period from date of installation. 1. Micropix warrants your Macro-imager to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for two years. Micropix will repair or replace such product or part thereof which, upon inspection by Micropix, is found to be defective in materials or workmanship. Micropix shall use reasonable efforts to repair the Macro-imager covered by this warranty within thirty days of notification. In the event repair or replacement shall require more than thirty days, Micropix shall notify the customer accordingly. 2. This warranty shall be void and of no force of effect in the event a covered product has been modified in design or function, or subjected to abuse, misuse, mishandling or unauthorized repair or damaged accidentally. MICROPIX DISCLAIMS ANY WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, WHETHER OF MERCHANTABILITY OF FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR USE, EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY SET FORTH HEREIN. THE SOLE OBLIGATION OF MICROPIX UNDER THIS LIMITED WARRANTY SHALL BE TO REPAIR THE COVERED PRODUCT, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS SET FORTH HEREIN.
