Metrics That Matter Setup Page 3 of 16 This document describes supported browsers and smartphones and other various configuration tips for Metrics that Matter (MTM). In addition, there are LAN/Firewall configurations that should be verified by your technical team. Finally, we provide you with some information regarding accessibility and security. Client Settings The following configuration items are settings that should be applied to any personal computer prior to accessing MTM. These items may have an effect on the overall user experience while using MTM. Supported Browser Configurations Browser Data Collection Site Reporting Module Administration Module Internet Explorer 10 Internet Explorer 9 Internet Explorer 8 Internet Explorer 7 Firefox (up to v. 23) Chrome (up to v. 26) Safari (up to v. 6) We continuously monitor and update browser compatibility and will notify clients as soon as MTM is made compatible with additional browsers.
Screen Resolution Metrics That Matter Setup Page 4 of 16 Both MTM and the Student Evaluations site (data collection) have been designed and optimized to a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768. Smartphone Device Support The Student Evaluations experience has been optimized for use with smartphone devices. A browser detect will automatically route the student to a modified layout that has a more vertical orientation when it is detected that they are accessing the survey from a smartphone device. The following smartphone Operating Systems are supported: Android (2.2+) o Samsung Galaxy S, S II, S III, Note, Note II, Nexus ios (3.0+) o iphone 3GS, 4, 4S, 5 Blackberry OS (5.0+) o Torch, Style, Storm, Storm2, Pearl, Curve, Bold Windows Phone 7 and 8 The MTM student experience may work on other operating systems, but please be advised that incompatibility may occur. If you wish to preview the smartphone experience, follow these five short steps: 1. Navigate to Administration>Schedule Training > Classes and select the Summary option from the Actions dropdown on the class you would like to preview 2. Under the survey title, click the Preview link 3. On the preview page, copy the address that appears in that window s address bar 4. that URL to yourself on your smartphone 5. Click that URL on your smartphone, or paste it into your browser These steps will show you the smartphone user s experience. Here you should view each of your questions, being sure a user student will be able to complete the survey with ease. Pop-Up Blocker Settings If you are using pop-up blockers or only allow pop-up windows from trusted sites, ensure that your users are configured to allow pop-up windows from Please see Appendix A for steps that outline how to configure this using common internet browser application.
Print Settings Metrics That Matter Setup Page 5 of 16 In order for the graphic based reports print most clearly, KnowledgeAdvisors recommends setting your internet browser to print background images and colors. If your browser allows your default page setup for printing to automatically scale print files to the available page width, you may want to configure that as well or allow a landscape layout by default to ensure that the font size of any reports does not shrink down to a font size that is difficult for your users to read. Please see Appendix B for steps that outline how to configure print settings for your users using common internet browser applications. Office Applications Some features of MTM require a minimum version of office applications to present your data to your users correctly. The table below lists the Action available to execute for generated reports and required version of each application required to view the results. MTM Report Action Desktop Application Download Excel XP (2007) or Excel 2003 Print to PDF Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.0 or greater View Narrative Reports Word 2007 Network and LAN Administrator Settings The following configuration items are settings that should be checked prior to using MTM. Proxy, Cache and Firewall Servers If you are using a proxy or cache server, such as Microsoft s Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA) verify the following. a. Cache rules allow for expired web objects to be updated when requested by client browsers b. Verify the automatic time out settings. Some of the MTM reports and queries can take 5-8 minutes to successfully execute. It is possible for your Cache/Firewall server to time out the clients requests prior to the successfully completion of the query. Clearing Cache Instructions for Internet Explorer: 1. Once your browser is open, click Tools menu and select Internet Options. (You may need to press Alt on your keyboard to see the Tools menu.) 2. Make sure the General tab is selected. 3. Under Browsing History click the Delete button. 4. In the new window, make sure Temporary Internet Files is checked and click the Delete button. (If you want, you can also opt to delete cookies and browsing history). 5. Close your browser window and restart Internet Explorer.
Metrics That Matter Setup Page 6 of 16 Instructions for Mozilla Firefox: 1. Once your browser is open, click the Tools menu and select Options. 2. Go to the Privacy tab and click Settings. 3. Check box Clear history when Firefox closes if not already checked. 4. Click Settings 5. Select what you would like to have cleared. If you want your cache cleared automatically, select the checkbox for Cache. 6. Click OK 7. Click OK again 8. Close your browser window and restart Mozilla Firefox. and Spam Filters MTM can be configured to send surveys via and will do so only at the company s request. Recent anti spamming technology can cause these s to be blocked from the intended recipients. The following addresses/domains are used by MTM and can be placed in the allowed list in your spamming filters. Alias Name IP Address KA-Web metricsthatmatter.com kamtm.com mtmlearning.com knowledgeadvisors.com kapublic.ka.corp IP Addresses Used by KnowledgeAdvisors /26 Classroom Configuration Tips The following tips will help ensure your students have a successful evaluation submission process. 1. Classroom machines should be connected to the LAN via network switches, rather than hubs. If hubs are used, network performance may decrease with each additional machine connected to the LAN. 2. The LAN should be properly configured and have the bandwidth to support multiple classrooms of machines accessing the internet at approximately the same time. You may experience an impact to local performance when multiple classrooms of machines are trying to utilize the internet connection concurrently.
Metrics That Matter Setup Page 7 of MTM is designed to use as little bandwidth as possible, but an internet connection of 128K or better is recommended. Accessibility KnowledgeAdvisors is committed to providing an experience that is accessible to all individuals. We actively review the Metrics that Matter tool and data collection site against the 508 accessibility standard and guidelines and seek to meet these requirements. If you have questions or concerns specific to your organization, please reach out to your account team or our Customer Support team (solutions@knowledgeadvisors.com). Security Password Security and Expiration MTM leverages a standard password security and expiration guideline for administration and reporting users. Password Strength Password must be at least eight (8) characters and contain at least one (1) upper case letter and one (1) special character (excluding certain characters:,. &) Password Expiration Password will expire after 365 days. Fourteen (14) days prior to expiration, the user will receive a system message upon login indicating that: Your password will expire in X: day(s). Please note that most existing users are grandfathered into this policy and are able to maintain existing passwords. At the time of expiration, these users may be required to create new passwords under the guidelines described above. Timeout Policy Student site The default timeout for a session for a student completing an evaluation, assessment/survey and test is 60 minutes. If a student spends more than 60 minutes on one page of a form, the session will timeout. If the form has multiple pages, the timer resets once the student proceeds to the next page.
Metrics That Matter Setup Page 8 of 16 Administration/Reporting Modules The default timeout for a session for admin and reporting MTM users is 60 minutes. If an admin or reporting user leaves the MTM account open for longer than 60 minutes without advancing to a new page, the session will timeout and the user will be required to log in to MTM again. Account Lockout Policy The user login provides general messaging for failed logins. To improve account security, an account lockout policy will lock a user's account after 5 failed attempts. Users will have to contact their MTM administrators if their account becomes locked out. Login Messaging Figure 1 - Example Login Error Message when the password is incorrect. Figure 2 - Example Account Lockout Message when the password has been entered incorrectly consecutively ten (10) times without a successful login.
Metrics That Matter Setup Page 9 of 16 Unlocking a Locked Account When a user account has been locked, the user will contact the MTM Administrator to have their account unlocked. Administrators will access the user's account via the Manage Users tool under Manage Account. By de-selecting the Account Locked Due to Login Failure and saving, the locked user account will receive an indicating that their login has been restored. Figure 3 - User/Instructor Edit page displaying the Account Locked Due to Login Failure option.
Metrics That Matter Setup Page 10 of 16 Appendix A: Configure Metrics that Matter as a Trusted Site Many of the tools in MTM use pop-up windows to execute actions including (but not limited to) ing, print to PDF, download calculated data, saving queries, and Manual Eval Entry. Clients accessing functionality that requires pop-up window generation must be configured to allow popup windows through from MTM. Steps to configure this appear below for common Internet Browsers. 14 Metrics That Matter Setup Page 14 of 16 Appendix B: Print Settings Some reports generated in MTM have a graphical display that requires your browser to send background images and colors to your printer in order for your results to print cleanly. The steps below outline where to configure this in various web browsers, as well as how to set your default print layout where available. Internet Explorer 7.x / 8.x 1. Open the Tools menu and click Internet options. 2. On the Advanced Tab, scroll down to the Printing section. Check the item Print background colors and images and click OK. 3. You may also want to set your default print orientation/layout to Landscape. Open the File menu and click on Page Setup. 4. In the Orientation section, select the Landscape option. Click OK when complete.

Metrics That Matter Setup Page 16 of 16 Firefox Open the File menu and click Print > Page Setup 2. Under the Options section, check the box to Print Background (colors & images). Click OK. 3. You may also want to have the format checked to Shrink to Fit Page Width so the reports you print do not go into additional pages for their width; however, for some reports this may make the font size smaller than you prefer, in which case you may want to set the Orientation default to Landscape (circled in green below).
