1 Appendix-B ( Analysis Results and Comparison with SAP 2000) This Appendix presents some example models used in testing and verification. All the results and figures are obtained from the verification manual and the release document. Sections B.1 and B.2 present the analysis results of several example models using and SAP Section B.3 presents the current capabilities. Section B.4 presents the bandwidth and analysis speed comparison of some of the larger models tested using and SAP B.1 Finite Element Models This section presents the analysis results of some finite element models using and SAP These models are generated using the WoodFrameMesh program and constitute three node shell, four node shell, frame, nonlinear link (with linear behavior) and spring elements. In these models involving shell elements, we see that the results for the displacements are slightly different compared to the results obtained from SAP The reason is the implementation of a different shell element in the program. 162

10 B.4 Bandwidth and Analysis Speed Comparison Charts The following charts present the bandwidth and analysis speed comparisons of the program with SAP Figure B.2 shows that the effective bandwidth obtained for the problems using is always greater than that for problems solved using SAP This is due to the optimum renumbering scheme used in SAP It is also found that the program requires a renumberer for solving problems having more than 50,000 degrees of freedom. The use of renumberer in solving finite element problems using the has resulted in much faster solution times as compared to SAP Figure B.2: Bandwidth comparisons between and ( release document, 2004) 171
