Why CFD? CFD is a powerful engineering tool for simulating all types of fluid flow. CFD simulations provide detailed descriptions of flow characteristics including values for velocities, pressures, temperatures, and other variables. CFD significantly reduces design and development time, provides more detailed information than physical experiments, and quickly simulates a wide range of flow conditions. The results are improved designs, lower risk, and shorter time to market for your product or process. 2

The Power of CFD2000 CFD2000 is an advanced, general-purpose computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software system for simulating a wide range of fluid flow, heat transfer, and mass transfer problems including: Subsonic, transonic, and supersonic flow regimes - Chemical reactions Multi-phase - Turbulence - Compressible/incompressible - Free surface Fire Simulation - Conjugate heat transfer - Porous media - Moving grid The CFD2000 system is a single integrated program providing the necessary tools for simulating real flows. The system includes modules for geometry creation and grid generation, a three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation solver, and advanced scientific visualization. INTELLIGENT & INTUITIVE The CFD2000 system is exceptionally easy to learn and use and can be quickly mastered by scientists and engineers. CFD2000 is accessed with a state-of the art graphical user-interface (GUI) which provides full control of all the program s functions, The GUI menu structure represents a logical progression through the process of fluid flow simulation that is intuitive for experienced CFD investigators and a convenient guide for beginners. Based on an advanced 3D windowing scheme, CFD2000 s intelligent GUI guides you through all steps of a flow simulation. Using pull-down menus and a combination of mouse and keyboard inputs, you can define the flow model, control and monitor the progress of the analysis, and examine the results, The software provides intelligent default values and performs extensive error checking on inputs. arch.co m 3

CFD2000 guides you through the entire CFD modeling process. EXPANDABLE CFD2000 provides flexibility and expandability like no other CFD code on the market. No matter how broad the range of built-in capabilities and switch-on modeling options offered by any software, the diversity of the physical world will often impose the need for further modification or extension. CFD2000 has been designed to facilitate inclusion of any userspecific feature through its open architecture and Fortran source-code routines. The flexible open source architecture allows for all built-in properties, physical models, and boundary conditions to be modified or extended. In addition, solution control options, such as time-step computations and output data formats may also be customized. CFD2000 displays the units expected for all input data. The user may also automatically convert the expected units to more familiar quantities through the user-specified units conversion file. Units conversion allows the user to tailor inputs of length, mass, and energy to the most convenient forms required. DATABASE LIBRARIES Fluids and solids properties are provided in ready-to-use libraries. New fluids/solids can also be added to the database libraries, and re-used in newly developed CFD models. In addition, libraries for chemical species and chemical reactions are easily accessed, and new species and chemical reaction data can be included. 4 arsales@ada ptiv e-researc h.co m

GEOMETRY & MESH GENERATION The requirement to create and visualize a complex three-dimensional shape and then discretize the domain by the generation of a computational grid is a critical operation in computational fluid dynamics. CFD2000 is designed to circumvent the tedium which, historically, has been associated with building high-quality three-dimensional structured grids. CFD2000 provides the tools for constructing and modifying model geometries. The design engineer works with a combination of mouse and keyboard input in a multiplewindow environment to create definitions of the physical geometry. The software can also import geometry in IGES format from CAD packages. Once the geometry task is completed, CFD2000 allows you to separate the definition of the physical geometry from the generation of the computational grid. Thus, the edge and surface definitions are retained regardless of the density of the grid points in the final mesh. CFD2000 offers you a choice among regular (Cartesian), cylindrical-polar, or body-fitted coordinate (BFC) systems a choice that increases power and flexibility for your flow simulations. BFC grids conform to the local geometric features of the model making it universally applicable to arbitrary configurations. CFD2000 a powerful, cost-effective CFD system. arch.co m 5

STORM CFD SOLVER STORM has been extensively validated against experimental data. At the core of the system is a three-dimensional viscous flow solver that combines a strongly conservative finite-volume formulation with advanced features. Features such as collocated grids, high-order differencing schemes, and flexible user-accessible source code architecture produce a state-of -the-art CFD system that is powerful, efficient, and expandable. Storm is fast, efficient, and accurate. The finitevolume treatment of the equations in general curvilinear coordinates produces accurate results on any smoothly varying grid even in the presence of significant non-orthogonality. By utilizing the integral form of the equations, conservation is enforced exactly. The PISO algorithm (pressure-implicit with splitting of operators) produces superior steady-state and transient solutions. Grid sequencing improves convergence rates by as much as an order of magnitude for many applications. This powerful feature allows automatic grid density control during the solution procedure. The user may coarsen or refine the grid during program execution in any or all coordinate directions. STORM performs the grid refinement, updates boundary conditions and monitor point locations, and interpolates the solution onto the new grid automatically. 6 arsales@ada ptiv e-researc h.co m

CFD SOLUTION ANALYSIS CFD2000 includes the most advanced scientific field visualization software on the market Fieldview. With Fieldview, you have at your fingertips instant access to a powerful set of analysis tools that can be used at any time to compute flow rates, examine recirculation and boundary layer regions, or even track particle paths. And since Fieldview is completely integrated with CFD2000, this power and utility is available to you with just a few clicks of your mouse. Fieldview is quick and easy to use, It can be started either upon completion of your CFD2000 simulation, or while execution is still in progress ( snapshot mode). Once started, all grid values, boundary surface locations, and solution field variables from your solution are loaded automatically. No file manipulation is required, The simple and intuitive Fieldview interface then gives you access to a full range of advanced visualization capabilities such as cutting planes, iso-surface and contour map generators, streamlines and particle trajectory animations, data probes and profile plots, Surface integrals and customized scalar computations can be performed using the built-in CFD calculator. And you can even create wholefield time-series animations and save the results in a number of standard video formats. Visualization has become an indispensable component of CFD. By incorporating Fieldview into the standard CFD2000 package, this realization has been brought full circle and delivered in a single, seamlessly integrated package. arch.co m 7

APPLICATIONS CFD2000 is used to model fluid flow problems in engineering equipment, the environment, and in living systems.
