2 Nikon Message Center /7 Notice to Users in Europe and the U.S.A To activate Nikon Message Center, users in Europe and the U.S.A. must have an account with their regional Nikon Support Center. When PictureProject starts for the first time, a license agreement will be displayed. After reading the agreement, click Accept to accept its terms. The following dialog will be displayed. If you do not have an account or do not remember your user ID or password, click Visit Nikon Support Center. After obtaining your account information, enter the required details and click Activate Nikon Message Center to display the Nikon Message Center window. If you decline the license agreement or click Remind me later, you can still register for updates by selecting Check for updates from the PictureProject Help menu. The Nikon Message Center license agreement will be displayed; click Accept to display the registration dialog and enter your account details as described above. If you already have an account with your regional Nikon Support Center, enter the supplied user ID and password and the address you used to register. Check that the computer is connected to the Internet and click Activate Nikon Message Center. The Nikon Message Center window will be displayed. Notice to Users in Europe and the U.S.A 2

3 Nikon Message Center 2/7 PictureProject is equipped with an automatic update function known as Nikon Message Center. Nikon Message Center checks for updates to a variety of Nikon digital products, including PictureProject. Automatic Update If the computer is connected to the Internet, Nikon Message Center will automatically check for updates when Picture- Project starts. If an update is available, the Nikon Message Center window will be displayed. Checking for Updates Manually Check that the computer is connected to the Internet. Select Check for updates from 2 the Help menu. The Nikon Message Center window will be displayed. Click Check for new updates. 3 Privacy Information provided by the user as part of this service will not be given to third parties without the user s permission. Downloading Updates An Internet connection is required to download updates. The user bears all applicable fees charged by the phone company or Internet service provider. Updates Check for new updates button Dial-up Connections When using a dial-up connection, be aware that the connection is not automatically terminated when download is complete. Be sure to terminate the connection manually. 3

4 Nikon Message Center 3/7 The Nikon Message Center window contains the following options: Available Messages / My Products Choose the information displayed in the information area. Click Available Messages to display update information, My Products to view product information. The selected button is highlighted in yellow. Menu bar Options are available for controlling the display in the information area, scheduling automatic updates, or viewing past updates. The Macintosh menu bar is shown below. Information area Displays update or product information. Last Check Date and time of last update. Exit Click to exit Nikon Message Center. Check for new updates Click to check for new updates. The options available in the Nikon Message Center window are described on the following pages. 4

5 Nikon Message Center 4/7 Available Messages Selecting Available Messages displays the updates currently available for Nikon software and digital products. Update Size Install Details Delete Update: The name, version, and description of available updates (software, drivers, or documents). Display Options When Available Messages is selected, the options in the View menu control the size of the font in which messages are displayed (Message Font Size) and the order in which messages are displayed (Message Sort Order). Size: The size of the update. Install: Click this button to download and install the update. When installation is complete, the update will be added to the list in the download log. Details: Click for a detailed description of the update. Delete: Click this button to remove the update from the list. Note that deleted updates can NOT be performed at a later date. Updates The update information listed in the Available Messages display may differ depending on the digital products selected in My Products. Updating Nikon Message Center Always install updates to Nikon Message Center as they become available. You may not be able to install updates for other products if Nikon Message Center is not up-to-date. 5

6 Nikon Message Center 5/7 My Products Selecting My Products displays a list of Nikon software and digital devices. Scheduling Updates To schedule automatic updates, select Options from the Tools menu (Windows) or Preferences from the application menu (Macintosh). Digital Products: A list of Nikon imaging devices. Check the items for which you wish update information. The information in the Available Messages display is based on the items selected in this list. Installed Software: A list of all installed Nikon software supported by Nikon Message Center. Updates for this software will be listed in the Available Messages display as they become available. Choose the interval at which Nikon Message Center will automatically check for updates from the Choose automatic check period menu (the default is Weekly). Click OK to return to the Nikon Message Center window, or click Cancel to exit without changing the update schedule. Update Schedule If the computer is connected to the Internet when PictureProject starts, Nikon Message Center will automatically check for updates whenever the amount of time elapsed since the last check exceeds the interval selected in the Choose automatic check period menu. 6

7 Nikon Message Center 6/7 The Download Log To view a log of past updates, select Show download log from the File menu. The following dialog will be displayed. Name / Size: The name and size of the files (software, drivers, or documents) downloaded in past updates. Location: Location to which the file selected in the name / size list was downloaded. File name: Name under which the selected file was saved. Delete: Delete the selected file from the computer. The selected item will also be removed from the download log. Open with Explorer (Windows) / Open in the Finder (Macintosh): Open the folder containing the selected file in Windows Explorer (Windows) or the Finder (Macintosh). Close: Close the download log. 7

8 Nikon Message Center 7/7 Uninstalling Nikon Message Center Follow the steps below to uninstall Nikon Message Center. Windows XP Home Edition / Windows XP Professional Select Add / Remove Programs from the Start menu. Select Nikon Message Center in the program list and 2 click Change / Remove. An InstallShield Wizard will be displayed. Click Yes to 3 uninstall Nikon Message Center. Windows 2000 Professional Select Settings > Control Panels from the Start menu. Open Add / Remove Programs. 2 Select Nikon Message Center in the program list and 3 click Remove. An InstallShield Wizard will be displayed. Click Yes to 4 uninstall Nikon Message Center. Windows Millennium Edition (Me)/ Windows 98 SE Select Settings > Control Panels from the Start menu. Open Add / Remove Programs. 2 Select Nikon Message Center from the list in the Install / Remove tab and click Add / 3 Remove. An InstallShield Wizard will be displayed. Click Yes to 4 uninstall Nikon Message Center. The InstallShield Wizard (Windows XP) Macintosh Open the Library folder on the disk to which Nikon Message Center is installed. Delete the Message Center folder from the Application Support / Nikon 2 folder. Uninstalling Nikon Message Center 8
