1 Call for Papers for Communication Theory Symposium Scope and Motivation: The Communication Theory Symposium covers all aspects related to communication theory, with a focus on topics related to fundamental issues in design and analysis of wireless/wired communication systems. The symposium welcomes original papers in the general area of communication theory, addressing challenging research problems relevant for the future communication systems. High quality papers reporting on applications of communications theory from both industry and academia are encouraged. 3 Biographies: Petar Popovski (IEEE S 97 A 98 M 04 SM 10-F'16) received Dipl.-Ing. In electrical engineering (1997) and Magister Ing. in communication engineering (2000) from Sts. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia, and Ph.D. from Aalborg University, Denmark, in He is currently a Professor at Aalborg University, where he leads a research group on machine-to-machine communications. He has more than 230 publications in journals, conference proceedings and books and has more than 25 patents and patent applications. In 2015 he received the Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council. In the past he served as an Editor in IEEE Trans. Wireless Communications, IEEE JSAC Cognitive Radio Series and Senior Editor in IEEE Communications Letters. He is currently an Editor for IEEE Transactions on Communications. From 2012 to 2014 he served as the Chair of IEEE ComSoc Emerging Technology Committee on Smart Grid Communications. He is a Steering Committee member for IEEE Internet of Things Journal, as well as Steering committee member of IEEE SmartGridComm. His research interests are in the broad area of wireless communication and networking, communication and information theory.
4 Philippa Martin (IEEE S 95-M 01-SM 06) received the B.E. (Hons. 1) and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1997 and 2001, respectively. She was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Canterbury in In 2002, she spent 5 months as a visiting researcher in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. Since 2004, she has been an academic at the University of Canterbury, where she is now an Associate Professor. She served as an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications and 2014-current. She regularly serves on technical program committees for IEEE conferences. Her current research interests include error correction coding, decoding and detection algorithms, equalization, space-time coding, cognitive radio, massive MIMO, smart grid and cooperative communications in particular for wireless communications.
5 Jinhong Yuan (IEEE M 02-SM 11-Fellow 16) received the B.E. and Ph.D. degrees in electronics engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, in 1991 and 1997, respectively. From 1997 to 1999 he was a Research Fellow at the School of Electrical Engineering, the University of Sydney, Sydney, Aus- tralia. In 2000 he joined the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, the Univer- sity of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, where he is currently a Professor for Telecommunications of the school. He has published two books, three book chapters, over 200 papers in telecommunications journals and conference proceedings and 40 industrial reports. He is a co-inventor of one patent on MIMO systems and two patents on low-density-parity-check (LDPC) codes. He coauthored three Best Paper Awards and one Best Poster Award, including a Best Paper Award of IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC), Cancun, Mexico in 2011, and a Best Paper Award of IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Communications Systems (ISWCS), Trondheim, Norway in His publications are available from He serves as the IEEE NSW Chair of joint Communications/Signal Processions/Ocean Engineering Chap- ter. He is also an Associate Editor for IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMU- NICATIONS. His current research interests include error control coding and information theory, communication theory, and wireless communications.
