7 Section 2. OVERVIEW AND FEATURES OVERVIEW The Cat Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) Remote Annunciator is configured to display information for up to 31 independently addressed Automatic Transfer Switches over a RS-485 serial Modbus network. The Remote Annunciator is powered by 120VAC source and can be powered by an external 24VDC source. Included is a battery UPS backup power supply to maintain the touchscreen until power is restored. Primarily designed to monitor the Cat Automatic Transfer switches, the Cat Remote Annunciator can be programmed to accept other manufacturers Automatic Transfer Switches if they include Modbus communications, will share their Modbus registry, and can be independently addressed. Custom programming will be required to include other manufacturers. 5

8 FEATURES The Cat ATS Remote Annunciator features an overview screen allowing a quick review of the basic information for all the transfer switches being monitored. Figure 1 Additionally, each Automatic Transfer Switch has a dedicated screen for in depth monitoring and control of that particular switch which can be accessed by touching the specific item on the screen. 9 The Cat ATS Remote Annunciator is password protected. This feature is accessed via the Passcode login screen. Figure 3 A System and Diagnostic screen is included specifically for the technician to program and maintain the settings for the Cat ATS Remote Annunciator. It is highly recommended that this screen only be accessed by an authorized technician. Figure 4 7

10 Section 3. OPERATION The System Overview screens are configurable to display up to 9 switches per screen (3 rows of 3) or 12 switches per screen (4 rows of three). Any additional switches are visible on consecutive screens; they can be viewed by swiping the screen to display a maximum of 31 system switches. Fewer than 9 switches are displayed 3 per row until all the switches are visible. Figure 5 The band at the top of the screen indicates which screen is currently being viewed. The local time is also displayed in military time or AM / PM. Figure 6 8

11 Located just below the top band is the navigation band. There are three navigation buttons, when touched, will transfer to the selected screen. Monitoring of the transfer switches can be accomplished without entering a password. To control an ATS remotely, password entry is required. The operator must select the passcode login or passcode logout from this area. Doing so will open the Password Input Screen (Figure 3). The current user name is displayed on the right of the navigation level band. If there is no current user identified, the Cat ATS Remote Annunciator will not allow control functions to operate. Figure 7 Below the overview screen each ATS is displayed. These can be configured in 4 rows of 3 for a total of 12 switches per page or in 3 rows of 3 for a total of 9 switches per page. Each ATS can be specifically labeled to help quickly identify which switch is being monitored. In the above example the three switches are labeled as ATS-E1, ATS-M1 and ATS-M2. Individual ATS names are factory programmed. If additional switches need to be added, contact your local Cat dealer. Figure 8 9

12 A quick glance at the overview screen allows the viewer to identify any deviations with the automatic transfer switches. Switch position is easily indicated by a green contact closed to normal or a red contact closed to emergency. Voltage indication at the ATS is shown in the windows just to the right of the switch position indicator. All voltages shown in these boxes are averaged values. The normal source is at the top in the green boxes and the emergency source is at the bottom in red boxes. In the example shown below in (Figure 9), the Automatic Transfer Switch ATC 2 is in normal operating mode. The touchscreen display is showing that the normal (or utility) side is registering 480 volts and the emergency side is not registering any voltage. Automatic Transfer MX 1 has transferred to the emergency source. Looking at the normal side voltage we can see that Automatic Transfer Switch MX 1 is only registering 277 volts. The emergency source voltage is an acceptable 480 volts. At this point more information might be required to understand why Automatic Transfer switch MX 1 is connected to the emergency source (or generator). This information can also be viewed on the display screen specific to the ATS by touching the specific ATS icon display. Figure 9 10

13 If communication is lost with any ATS controller, a communication lost banner will appear at the bottom of the display screen. The ATS graphic will show a safety alert symbol (a small yellow triangle with an exclamation point inside of it). If the operator touches the X on the top right hand corner of the banner, the communications lost banner will disappear. The triangles will remain until communication with that specific controller is restored. Figure 10 Typical ATC Individual Automatic Transfer Switch Screen Each ATS specific screen displays additional information (Figure 11). The icon indicating switch position and source availability is located at the bottom left of this screen. All information displayed matches the overview screen and additional information and control functions are now available for each individual switch in the system. The upper right hand side of the screen displays electrical information for the ATS: Normal and emergency Voltage and frequency Immediately below the voltage and frequency indications is the box that displays the number of transfer operations for that particular Automatic Transfer Switch. To the left of the voltage and frequency indications is a big red box that displays the programmed time delays. These are all the time delays in logical order as they occur during normal ATS operation. The first is the time delay for the engine start signal (TDES). This time delay is normally short and in certain instances will be too short to register. The time delay for transfer to emergency (TDNE) allows the generator to reach preset parameters before transferring to the emergency source. The time delay for re-transfer to normal (TDEN) ensures that the utility has stabilized prior to be returning to the utility. After the Automatic Transfer Switch has re-transferred to the utility, the generator will run unloaded to cool down (TDEC). 11

14 There is also the time delay for an emergency fault (TDEF). This time delay is to confirm a failed generator source when on the generator source. The next time delay is the presignal time delay (TPRE) used for motor load disconnects and elevators. The final timer is for the engine run timer during a test (TER). It is available on the ATC-300+ and the ATC-800 controller. All of these time delays are adjustable via the local controller and as an option on the Cat ATS Remote Annunciator. Spaced across the bottom right hand side of this screen are the control buttons. For these to function, the correct password must be entered into the password login page (Figure 3). The first button will initiate the ATS test function as programmed into the controller. The second button will cancel that test. The third button will start the generator and transfer the switch to the emergency source when available. The fourth button will cancel the run request and trigger the re-transfer to normal. Figure 11 12

15 The MX Controller screen is very similar to the ATC Controller screen discussed previously. The icon indicating switch position and source availability is located at the bottom left of this screen. The upper right hand side of the screen displays electrical information for the ATS. The voltage for the Normal source and Emergency source can be seen for each phase. As with the ATC Controller screen, immediately below the voltage and frequency values is the box displaying the number of transfer operations for that particular Automatic Transfer Switch. This box also indicates if the accessory S12 (auto or manual transfer) or S5 (auto or manual re-transfer) are included and functioning. In the upper left hand side of this screen is a test switch function. This switch will allow control of the corresponding Automatic Transfer Switch. For control to be allowed the user must first enter the password in to the Password login page (Figure 3). This switch allows several test options. By touching the NL designation you can initiate a No Load test of the ATS or you can also touch the NO XFR to the right of the test switch to accomplish the same thing. Figure 12 13

16 Typical MX Automatic Transfer Switch Screen To start the generator and have the Automatic Transfer Switch transfer to the emergency source touch the L or touch the XFR LOAD to the right of the test switch. This will keep the ATS on the emergency source until the operation is manually canceled. The final option available on the test switch is the Fast Test selection. By touching the FT or FAST TEST the switch will start the generator, transfer to emergency and then begin the re-transfer process. The Automatic Transfer Switch will not stay connected to the emergency source continually. To end any of the test selections, all that needs to be done is touch the C or CANCEL. The time delays will be only populate the screen when they are active. A box will appear between the test switch and the switch indicator icon when a time delay timer is in operation. You can bypass the time delay by pressing the corresponding button located on the bottom right of the screen. 14 Figure 13 PASSWORD LOGIN SCREEN To activate the control functions of the Cat ATS Remote Annunciator the operator must enter a username and a password. The default Username is MASTER and the password is also MASTER. After the username and password has been entered the unlock icon has to be pressed. The unlock icon is at the below and to the right represented by the key in the open padlock. If successful a current user will be identified as MASTER. Once a current user is populated the control functions will be active and available. You may navigate back to the previous screen by touching the back button located next to the unlock icon on the password login screen. To return to the Overview screen touch the Home button located to the left of the back button.

17 After the password has unlocked the control functions, they will remain unlocked and available until the Passcode Logout Button is pressed or there has been no activity for 10 minutes. If either of these actions have occurred it will be necessary to re-enter the Username and Password to have access to the control functions. The Username and Password may be changed one time and only by an authorized factory technician. Figure 14 This action will open the System and Diagnostic screen. This screen has numerous programming options available to the technician. Caution should be exercised when on this screen. Only the Date/Time button should be accessed. DO NOT attempt to access any other buttons or your screen might not operate properly. A malfunction will require a factory technician site visit to restore the original settings and correct any programming errors and will incur a service charge. Figure 15 To change the time and/or date the operator must have access to the control functions. If there is not a current user listed repeat the procedure as previously defined for the password login page to access control functions. After confirming a current user, tap the time listed in the upper right hand corner of the Screen identification band. This action will open the System and Diagnostic screen. This screen has numerous programming options available to the Cat technician. Caution should be exercised when operating this screen. Only the Date/Time button should be accessed. DO NOT attempt to access any other buttons or your screen might not operate properly. Touch the Date/Time button to display the time and date screens. 15
