1 a MediaStream Documentation Addendum Version 3.20 Important Information Avid recommends that you read all the information in this Addendum file thoroughly before installing or using any new software release. n Important: Search the Avid Knowledge Base for the most up-to-date Addendum file, which contains the latest information that might have become available after the documentation was published. Shipping of the new hardware supported in Version 3.19 might not coincide with the shipping of the software. Since the old hardware and new hardware function the same, shipping of the new hardware will be phased in. This addendum describes changes in documentation that have been made between MediaStream software v3.17 and v3.20. MediaStream software v3.20 and later supports the use of a Dual Controller PS 1000 array on the MS Server 8000si and provides: Additional fault protection by using a secondary Fibre Channel path from the server to the storage. Increased fault tolerance by separating the connect Plus 1000s Fibre Channel from the server s Fibre Channel connection to the storage. MediaStream software versions v3.19 and v3.20 support hardware changes explained in this document. Those hardware changes are: The FSC 40 is being replaced by the FSC 80 but is functionally equivalent. The MSi 1000 is being replaced by the MSi 2000.

MediaStream Server 8000si Site Preparation, Installation and Reference Guide Rev C The illustration and explanation on page 38 shows a MSS 8000si network environment and the connection of a single controller version of the Palladium Store (PS) The system now supports the dual controller version as shown in the following illustration. The additional controller in the Palladium Store 1000 system is a Fibre Channel connection to the MSS 8000si. 4 Connecting FSC 80 and MSi 2000 in an MSS 8000si Environment The following figures show the new FSC 80 and MSi 2000 and their respective connections points in a network supported by a MSS 8000si server. This hardware figure of the FSC 80 replaces the FSC 40 in the following figures: Page 40, Figure FSC si - Rear Panel LAN 2 to MSS 8000si This hardware figure of the MSi 2000 replaces MSi 1000 in the following figures: Page 39, Figure MSi si- Rear Panel LAN 1 Gigabit Ethernet LAN 2 to MSS 8000si Fibre channel to PS1000 Two sections of the manual should contain more information relevant to the process of booting the system. The following bulleted list explains that information: After Fig-5-6 and fig-5-10 there should be a step 7A and 6A respectively. The changes consist of: Different FSC hardware but do not affect the manner in which the system functions. The Connect Plus 1000 ftp service now supports two user profiles. Chapter three of the ConnectPlus 1000 Network Storage Installation and Operations Guide Rev D has major changes that explain how to load the Recovery CD-ROM. Please see the Avid Support Knowledge Base to read this chapter. 9

10 Hardware Changes The following figures define the differences in the hardware. Page 7, Figure 1-1 ConnectPlus 1000 Gateway Chassis front panel, now uses the hardware shown in the following figure: ConnectPlus Front Panel Page Figure 2-1 ConnectPlus 1000 Rear Panel, now uses the hardware shown in the following figure: ConnectPlus Rear panel Gigabit Ethernet Fibre channel Keyboard and mouse VLAN Monitor MXF Translator Support for Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) on Connect Plus 1000 Network Storage The Connect Plus 1000 ftp service now supports the following two user profiles: The original, or classic, view gives the familiar directory structure filename\header, filename\ft, filename\std, filename\info view of a content called "filename." This profile is present when you log in as video_fs. The latest profile supports SD and HD. You can access this profile by logging in as mxf_fs. The directory structure shows files displayed as filename\std and filename\info (if info track is present). 10

11 MediaStream Server 8000 NS Site Preparation, Installation and Reference Guide Rev E To import an mxf file using the new profile: 1. Log in as mxf_fs and use the password.mxf_fs. 2. Create a directory with the same name as the.mxf file you want to import. For example, to import a file named filename.mxf, first create a directory named filename. 3. Use the following ftp commands to import the file: d. cd filename e. put filename.mxf std The system transfers and renames filename.mxf to filename/std. The Gateway system automatically regenerates the header and ft, converts the MXF file to PS, and sets the playok bit to allow play while transfer. c Use this procedure with caution because the network bandwidth is not guaranteed and must be factored into the overall system bandwidth. In this profile, you will not see the header or ft files even after they are created. n To export an mxf file using the new profile: 1. Login as mxf_fs and use the password.mxf_fs. 2. Change directory to the desired content name and get the std track. For example: a. cd filename b. get std filename.mxf VBI data will not be retained during export. Data mode audio (that is, AC3) will also be lost. Format Specifications The following table lists the supported formats for MXF Translator. Export Source Video format HD and SD program stream Audio format Up to 4 pairs of mixed uncompressed (16 or 20) and musicam (256 or 384). Audio data such as AC is not retained during export. Export Destination Maxis pop-1a Up to 4 pairs of uncompressed (16 or 20). Import Source HD and SD MXF in pop-1a or D10/IMX For pop-1a: Up to 4 pairs of mixed encompassed (16 or 20) and musical (256 or 384). For D10/IMX: 4 pairs of 16 bit uncompressed or 2 pairs of 24 bit uncompressed. Note that the 24 bit is converted to

12 Import Destination Video format HD and SD program stream Audio format For pop-1a: to 4 pairs of mixed encompassed (16 or 20) and musical (256 or 384). For D10/IMX: 4 pairs of 16 bit uncompressed or 2 pairs of 16 bit uncompressed. MediaStream Networked Storage Systems 03.1X Installation Guide The revision of the bvsrc file is changed from 2.4 to 2.5 to support the dual PS1000 controller option on the 8000si. For specific procedures to edit the bvrsc file, refer to MediaStream Networked Storage System, 3.1X Installation Guide. The upgrade process automatically updates the revision of the bvsrc files. If you manually restore the stifles (the bvsrc file is one of the site files) after the upgrade, you will need to run edit_bvsrc to generate a new bvsrc file with the correct version number. Startams will not start with the revision 2.4 bvsrc file. This applies to both 8000si and 8000ns systems. 12
