1 DATE : A TECHNICAL INFO A External GSM AT420 The external GSM AT420 is a GSM data modem. It allows a communication with the A when a cabled telephone connection is impossible. This modem can be used for the following: incoming calls from a Central Dispatching (ModBus) incoming calls from Internet Explorer (ModBus/TCP) outgoing calls to a Central Dispatching (ModBus) sending/receiving of SMS (using a C driver) sending of This modem offers the feature to automatically re-initialize its connection to the network every day. It offers 2 advantages: in case the modem has been black listed, always possible, it will be automatically registered back. at every re-connection, the modem checks the emitter with the best signal. GSM AT420 is standard connected to COM2 of the A, and is treated as an external modem. The Operating System of A must be version 5306 or higher, any version of TWinSoft might be used. Two C drivers can be used with the GSM on A: 1. the driver ReadSMS: this driver has the following main features: acknowledgement of alarms by sending back a SMS monitoring of A by sending SMS control of the validity of the SIM card control of the network level quality 2. the driver GSM_sig: can be used when there is no need of handling SMS. control of the validity of the SIM card control of the network level quality Both drivers are installed together with TWinSoft and are also available on the web site Support Drivers. 2 1. Package content A complete GSM DATA package contains the following items. Check with your order: 1 x external GSM AT420 (our ref. ACC-GSM-EXT). - 1 x modem with DIN rail fixing - 1 x small antenna (7cm). - 1 x power cable with connector to D1-D2 of A - 1 x RS232 cable to COM2 of A Options: 1 x 4m. antenna cable with adapters (our ref. ACC-GSM-EXT4). 1 x Antenna (our ref. ACC-GSM-ANT): 2. Technical characteristics Input supply voltage: from 6 VDC to 32 VDC Dual Band: Mhz Class 4 (2W output power) Mhz Class 1 (1W output power) Input supply current (with 12 VDC): - in idle mode: 16mA - in communication: 150mA - during identification at power up: peak of 1.2A during 10 µsec. every 5 msec. until the closer antenna has been found. External housing: Polycarbonate Protection : IP21 Antenna connector: SMA Make sure an antenna is connected before powering the GSM. 3. General Precautions when using DATA-GSM: 1. We advise to work with a SIM card configured without PIN code. 2. If you want to sent SMS message, check the account of the SIM card allows sending of SMS message. 3. When declaring a Recipient in TWinSoft, use the GSM operator of the SIM card inserted into the GSM of A. A message can be sent to any other operator. 4. A SIM card is associated to 3 telephone numbers : the VOICE one (the one you use to talk), the DATA one and the FAX one. When connecting to A using TWinSoft, IE,... you must use the DATA number. 3 4. The SIM card As for any mobile phone, a SIM card must be installed into the GSM. When ordering the SIM card you must check that: You receive a DATA call number (with a SIM card you should receive a VOICE, FAX and DATA call number); the DATA number must be used with GSM AT420 for incoming calls (PC A). The PIN code must be disabled. According to your provider, the PIN code can be disabled from a menu with the help of a mobile phone or must be deactivated from the provider. 5. A standard cable cannot be used. Access to modem through Terminal Emulation of TWinSoft The GSM AT420 can be easily accessed from TWinSoft and the local connection to A. 4 6. The LEDs The external GSM AT420 has 2 LEDs that informs on its status: GREEN: ON: when it is powered. RED: ON: when it is powering and connecting to the network. FLASHING SLOW: when it is in IDLE mode. Be careful, after the first powering, even if it is flashing, it might still need about 1 min. 30 seconds to be registered on the network. FLASHING FAST: when it is in communication. 7. Configuration in TWinSoft 7.1. COM2 port configuration In the Properties of the A, configure COM2 as modem and select Apylink AT420. The default profile is scheduled to work without PIN code In case you wish to work with PIN code (not advised), you need to change profile of Modem. From the main menu: Tools Modem profiles. Select Apylink AT420 from the list. Change the initialization string with: AT+CPIN=$$$$^ ATZ In the COM2 menu: Parameters, the PIN code field is then available. 5 7.2. Advanced Configuration To improve communication, and the possible delay introduced between character by the network (latency), the End of Frame detection time must be modified. From the Parameters Advanced of COM2, change the End of frame detection to Custom=60mSec PC configuration To communicate with A select a modem (PSTN or GSM) properly installed in Windows in the Communication PC setup menu and dial the DATA number of the SIM card. 8. Connection to an ISP WARNING : Certain ISP do not accept connection through GSM. In case you wish A to send or access a FTP site, contact your ISP to check whether it accepts GSM connection. 6 9. Working with PSTN telephone switch. The Data GSM AT420 is configured with factory settings to connect to PSTN modems in Autobaud mode. It is configured with the following parameters: AT+IPR=0 AT+CBST=0,0,1 ATS0=3 10. Working with ISDN telephone switch. Configuration of AT420: The connection between ISDN and GSM is only possible using V110 protocol. Therefore, the AT420 must be configured in V110. In the modem Profile, change the initialization string like following: ATZ^ AT+CBST=71,0,1 WARNING : 1. GSM supports ISDN connection only for outgoing calls (from A to a central station for instance). For Incoming calls, a specific DATA-ISDN number is needed (please call your GSM operator). 2. The +CBST command concerns only outgoing calls. Incoming must still be done using PSTN modem. It mainly depends on the GSM operator (see previous). 3. If you wish to send alarms to Pager or GSM, check with the Operator if ISDN Servers are available. 4. If you wish to send , check with the ISP whether it accepts incoming call in V110. In case the PC dialing Data GSM AT420 is connected to ISDN telephone switch, 2 situations are possible: You work, through the ISDN telephone switch, with an analog modem. You have to check that the telephone switch accepts incoming DATA calls (from the AT420) to an analog modem. Not all ISDN telephone switch allows such a configuration. You work with a Terminal Adapter (TA) connected to an ISDN line. The only communication mode supported by the AT420 is the V110. You must configure the TA for this mode. On the other hand, the AT420 must also be configured to work in V110. WARNING : On your PC side, if you work with a full ISDN configuration like explained here above, you will not be able to send (and receive) calls to (and from) a PSTN A. If this is your case, you need at PC side, one TA for the ISDN calls, and one analog line with an analog modem for the PSTN calls. This means 2 telephone numbers on your PC side.
