3500/91 EGD Gateway User's Guide iv
Introduction Introduction This manual contains instructions for the routine operation, configuration, and troubleshooting of a 3500/91 EGD Gateway. Before using the information in this guide, make sure that the module has been properly installed, configured, and verified by a qualified technician in accordance with the instructions in the 3500/91 EGD Gateway Technical Reference Manual, part number No detailed information on installation, general configuration, troubleshooting, or maintenance is presented in this guide. Module Description Function and purpose of the module The EGD Gateway provides Ethernet communications between the 3500 Monitoring System and a plant information system such as a distributed control system (DCS), a programmable logic controller (PLC), or a human-machine interface (HMI). The Communication Gateway Module collects static data from the modules in the rack over a high-speed internal network and sends this data to the information system at pre-selected time intervals. The EGD Gateway supports the Ethernet Global Data (EGD) protocol version The module allows multiple independently scheduled optimal communications by configuring each produced exchange. Routine maintenance The boards and components inside the 3500/91 module cannot be repaired in the field. Maintaining a 3500/91 module consists of Using the LEDs on the front panel to determine if the module is operating properly (see Determining if the EGD Gateway is operating correctly on page 5) 1
3500/91 EGD Gateway User's Guide Operating Instructions After the 3500/91 EGD Gateway is installed, configured, and operating, the module manages the communication between the 3500 rack and the information system without user intervention. When it is operating normally, the EGD Gateway has no operator intervention requirements. Reading the LEDs The LEDs on the front panel of the EGD Gateway indicate the operating status of the module. (1) OK: Indicates that the communication module and the I/O modules are operating correctly. (2) TX/RX: Flashes at the rate that internal messages are received. Basic Configuration The process of setting system, module, and channel options so that all the modules in the 3500 rack work together is called configuration. These settings are established and adjusted by using the 3500 Rack Configuration program. Because a 3500 rack must be configured by a qualified instrumentation specialist or by Bently Service personnel, configuration settings are usually protected by security settings. The security setting for a typical 3500 Monitoring System that is operating normally is Change Setpoints in Program Mode. This section shows how to view the 3500/91 configuration settings view the content of the produced exchanges To use the following procedures you must run 3500 Rack Configuration software, connect to the 3500 rack that contains the 3500/91 EGD Gateway, and download the configuration to the rack. The 3500 Rack Configuration and Utilities Guide, part number , explains how to do this. 2
Basic Configuration After you have connected to the rack and downloaded the rack configuration, the 3500 Rack Configuration screen should look something like this. The image in the Connect icon ( active. ) will rotate to indicate that the connection to the rack is Viewing the 3500/91 EGD Gateway configuration settings View the 3500/91 configuration settings by right clicking on the EGD Gateway and selecting Options from the drop down list. 3
3500/91 EGD Gateway User's Guide The EGD Gateway option screen will appear. Viewing the content of the Produced Exchanges The 3500/91 EGD Gateway contains 4 individual produced exchanges that can be configured with contiguous information (data values, setpoints, status). In addition there is one consumed exchange that is described in the 3500 Configuration Software help system or in the 3500/91 EGD Gateway Technical Reference Manual, part number By prioritizing the produced exchanges with varying time intervals, the information system can receive data pushed onto the network at specified time intervals. To view the content of these produced exchanges, click on Points of the desired producer exchange group in the EGD Gateway option dialog. To change groups select the desired tab. The 91 Communication Gateway Configuration dialog will appear: 4
Routine troubleshooting Routine troubleshooting During normal operation, the 3500/91 EGD Gateway will continuously manage communication between the 3500 rack and the control or display device that processes the results of the communication. This section shows how to determine if the module is operating properly and tells what to do if it isn t. Determining if the EGD Gateway is operating correctly The following table shows how to use the LEDs to diagnose problems. OK LED TX/RX Condition 1 HZ 1HZ Communication Gateway Module is not configured. 5 HZ Communication Gateway Module is Not OK. ON Flashing Communication Gateway Module is operating correctly. Not Flashing Communication Gateway Module is not communicating correctly or there are no monitors in the rack. = Behavior of the LED is not related to the condition. If the EGD Gateway is not operating correctly If the module LEDs indicate a problem as described in the previous section, you must collect the following information before calling your information system programmer or Bently Nevada Technical Support: The configuration file for the rack A listing of the most recent System Events A listing of the most recent Alarm Events A listing of the configurable produced exchanges In order to collect this information you need to run the 3500 Rack Configuration Software, connect to the rack that contains the 3500/91 EGD Gateway, and upload the configuration from the rack. The 3500 Rack Configuration and Utilities Guide, part number , explains how to do this. 5
3500/91 EGD Gateway User's Guide To save the configuration file for the rack: 1. Select Save As from the File menu. The Save Rack Configuration As dialog will appear. 2. Enter a filename, select a folder for the configuration file, and then click Save. The rack configuration file will be saved to the folder that you selected. To print a listing of the most recent System and Alarm Events: The System and Alarm Event lists are filled in a round robin fashion and contain messages that service technicians need to troubleshoot problems with your monitor. The method for displaying and printing System Events and Alarm Events is as follows. 1. Display the event list by using the Utilities menu and then selecting Alarm Events for the Alarm Event list or System Events/Module Self-test for the System Events list. 6
A typical System Event list looks like this: Routine troubleshooting 2. Print the event messages by clicking the Print button. The Print Events dialog will appear. 3. Use either Last 20 Events or the from and to fields to print a list of the events within the range of time that the problem with your monitor occurred. 7
3500/91 EGD Gateway User's Guide To save a listing of the configurable produced exchanges The configuration of the points in the EGD Gateway can help an information system programmer troubleshoot problems with the communication between the module and an information system. The method for saving this configuration to a file (which in turn can be printed) is as follows: Click on Report in any of the producer tabs. The Report drop-down list for that particular producer exchange will appear. Save it to the directory desired. To print a listing of the configurable produced exchanges Open the saved *.txt file in Excel (or the editor of choice) and use the print feature. 8
