Division Model DPAS-300 Portable Bulk Load Accumulator Scale VERSION 5 MODEL DPAS-300 READ THIS FIRST Any options can be turned on/off. Following is a brief description of each and instructions for turning them off. 1. AUTO - The AUTO add mode allows the scale to sense when a box has been added to the deck and weigh it automatically. This is a very popular option and is usually turned on. With it turned off, the operator must press the ADD button each time to enter a weight. 2. PAYLOAD - Some stations have to be careful not to overload an aircraft or section of an aircraft. Other stations with low volumes have never had that problem. If the possibility of overloading is real, turn this option on. It will force the operator to enter the payload limit of the next aircraft before the scale will operate. If that weight is reached, a loud alarm will sound, letting the operator know each time a box is added past the payload setting. 3. SUBTRACT - If the occasional need to subtract a package or several package weights occurs, then turn this option on. Each package must be manually subtracted, so there is no danger of a scale being accidentally left in the subtract mode. To change any of these options, see the PARAMETER MODE settings in the setup manual. There is also a single CALIBRATION / PARAMETER sheet that comes with this scale.

Division Model DPAS-300 Portable Bulk Load Accumulator Scale CALIBRATION INSTRUCTIONS Calibrating the DPAS-300 is very quick and simple 1. Set the scale on a level surface. 2. With no weight on the platter, push the CALIBRATION button. (located on the left side of the display housing.) CAL displays in the left display. The right display shows a number that should change when weight is added to the platter. 3. Now set 100 LBS on the platter and push the CAL button again. Calibration is complete. PARAMETER MODE Entering the PARAMETER MODE - Turn the power switch to OFF. While holding the RESET button in, turn the power switch back on. Wait until the word prog appears in the right display. Release the RESET button. RAW WEIGHT MODE - (diagnostic mode) The number now showing in the weight display is the RAW weight or DEADLOAD. 1.) This number should be anywhere between and with no weight on the deck. 2.) This number should increase as weight is applied to the scale deck. Push the RESET button now to enter the parameter mode. Note: New parameter settings are saved to memory automatically at the end of the parameter mode. Turning the unit off during the parameter mode will exit without saving. Division Services 5 (901)
PARAMETER MODE - cont. SLEEP MODE - The left display (TOTAL) says SLEEP. The right display shows a number between 1 and 25 or OFF. This number represents how long, in increments of 12 seconds, until an unattended 0.0 display goes blank. A setting of 1 = 12 seconds. 5 = 1 minute. 25 = 5 minutes. The SLEEP mode can be set to OFF. Use the ADD button to change the setting. When the SLEEP parameter is set correctly, push the RESET button to proceed to the next parameter. BEEPER LOUDNESS - The left display shows BEEP. The right display shows 1, 2, 3 or OFF. Pushing the ADD button changes the setting. The beeper sounds on each button push to indicate the loudness for that level. A setting of 1 might be used in an office and a setting of 3 outdoors on a loading ramp. OFF has no sound. When the BEEPER parameter is correct, push the RESET button to continue. AUTO MODE - The left display now shows AUTO. The right display shows on or off. Select on or off using the ADD button. When the AUTO parameter is correct, push the RESET button. PAYLOAD MODE The left display now shows Paload (6 digit limit) and the right display shows on or off. Use ADD to change, RESET to continue. SUBTRACT MODE The left display now shows SUB and the right display shows on or off. Use ADD to change, RESET to continue. MOTION BANDWIDTH The left display now shows BAND. The right display shows a number, 0 through 1.5. A setting of 0 means that the scale must read 2 identical weights before an ADD can happen. This is the most accurate setting. Some applications however, have wind, vibration or other movements (in a vehicle, for example), that make 2 identical reads quite difficult. Increasing this parameter value, to.3 for example, would allow the scale to accept 2 readings within.3 lbs of each other for an ADD. A setting of 6 would allow 2 readings within.6 lbs, etc. Push RESET to continue. RESET BANDWIDTH The left display now shows RESET and the right display shows 0,.2 or.4. A setting of 0 requires the scale weight to return to 0.0 after an ADD before the A in the weight display disappears and resets the scale for another ADD. This parameter can be increased to.2 or.4 in windy environments to allow the scale to reset more easily. This is also the zero tracking bandwidth. Press RESET to save the new settings and return to the WEIGH mode. The word Entered will scroll across the display, indicating permanent storage. 6
OPERATION AUTO MODE - When the AUTO mode is set to ON, the scale will automatically beep and add the first positive weight that becomes stable on the deck. Negative and zero weights will not add. When the weight is removed and the display returns to 0.0, (or the setting indicated in the RESET parameter), the scale will again begin looking for the next stable weight above zero. If several identical packages are to be weighed, it is not necessary to weigh each box individually. Place one on the platter and, after the beep/add, continue pushing the ADD button until the correct number of packages has been registered. Notice the counter in the WEIGHT display. When the DPAS-300 is first turned on in the AUTO mode, the display will briefly show AUTO ON and the WEIGHT display will be automatically zeroed. This prevents a non-zero weight from being added to the TOTAL display unintentionally. NOTE: In AUTO mode, a stable weight must be at least.6 lbs. If the RESET parameter is set to.4, the stable weight must be at least.8 lbs. Any weight may be added in manual mode. MANUAL MODE - When the AUTO mode is set to OFF, the scale will not automatically register weights. The ADD button must be pushed each time the scale adds a new weight to the TOTAL display. This mode is necessary if the operator prefers to weigh several packages at a time. If several identical packages are to be weighed, it is not necessary to weigh each individually. Place one on the platter and push the ADD button. Continue pushing the ADD button until the correct number of packages has been registered. Notice the counter in the WEIGHT display. When the DPAS-300 if first turned on in the MANUAL mode, the WEIGHT display will not be automatically zeroed. RUN / HOLD - The RUN / HOLD button when switched to HOLD will cause the weight display to freeze with the current reading in the display. This may be helpful when weighing large packages and the display cannot be seen. With the package on the scale, reach under and push the RUN / HOLD button sideways. Remove the package and its weight will remain in the display. The ADD button will work at this point. When finished adding the weight, switch the RUN / HOLD button back to RUN. While the unit is in HOLD, the hold indicator light will be lit. UNDO / RESET - Pushing the RESET button will clear the last weight added. To reset the entire total, push and hold for about 3 seconds. 4 short beeps will be heard followed by one long beep. This button is also used to enter and step through the parameters. 7
OPERATION cont. ZERO - Pressing the ZERO button clears the weight display. It is also the down button in the Payload edit mode. ADD - The ADD button is used to add the current reading of the WEIGHT display to the current reading in the TOTAL display. It also works as the change button in the parameter mode and the up button in the Payload edit mode. FUNCTION - payload and subtract If the payload parameter is turned on, the scale will prompt the operator to enter a new payload limit each time the scale is RESET. Use the ADD button to increase, the ZERO to decrease. Press the FUNCTION button, (located on the right side) to enter the payload. This FUNCTION button can be pressed at any time to view and edit the payload setting. When a package is added that exceeds this payload limit, an alarm will sound loudly, and past payload will display. The package will then add but may be removed by using the UNDO button or the SUBtract feature. If the SUBTRACT mode is enabled, pressing the FUNCTION button twice, or holding it in for 1 full second will set the scale for one subtract event. Sub will display in the total display. The next event will now subtract instead of add. The scale will return to the ADD mode automatically. Several subtracts will require setting the SUB mode each time. To cancel the SUB mode, press the FUNCTION key again. LOW BATTERY - The DPAS-300 has 2 low battery levels. The first level is reached when the battery voltage falls below 10 volts DC. At this point, the LO BAT light (located between the TOTAL and WEIGHT displays) comes on. The unit needs to be recharged very soon but as long as the unit continues operating, the weights will continue to be accurate. The second level is reached when the battery voltage falls to about 8.5 volts DC. At this point, the unit will beep loudly six times and both displays will go out, allowing no further operation. This will prevent inaccurate weight readings. To know what was in the TOTAL display, push any button and that display will come back on for a few seconds so that the operator can record the weight. CHARGING - The DPAS-300 uses a 12 volt DC charger (supplied with unit). When the charger is plugged in properly and the battery is charging, the CHARGE indicator light should come on. This light will stay on as long as the unit is plugged in. Prolonged charging will NOT harm the unit. We recommend that the unit remain on charge whenever it is not being used. 8
TROUBLESHOOTING When problems are encountered with the DPAS-300 Portable Scale, check the following for possible problems and their causes. When the DPAS-300 unit is turned on, the proper power up sequence must be observed. Otherwise, service may be necessary. The power up sequence is as follows: 1. Turn the ON/OFF switch to ON 2. Both displays show current version (i.e. 2.0) 1/2 sec 3. Both displays show all 8 s. (888888) 1 second 4. Both displays go blank. 1 second 5. If in AUTO mode - AUTO ON 1-3 seconds 6. If in PAYLOAD mode - PALOAD ON 1-3 seconds. 7. If in SUBTRACT mode - SUB ON 1-3 seconds. 8. Unit begins normal operation. No Display when unit is turned on - Battery may be completely discharged. Does the CHARGE light come on when the unit is plugged in? If not, the battery is not receiving a charge. Try using a different power pack. Check the AC wall outlet. If the AC outlet is live and another power pack does not work either, the unit needs service. If the CHARGE light does come on, does the unit work while plugged in? If yes, try charging for a few hours. If the unit still won t work without being plugged in, the battery may be bad and the unit needs service. Weight Display won t change - Is the HOLD light lit? If yes, switch the RUN / HOLD switch to RUN. If the HOLD light is not lit, turn the unit off and back on again. Did this fix the problem? If not, turn the unit off. While holding the RESET button in, turn the unit back on and continue holding the RESET button in until prog appears in the WEIGHT display. Release the button. The number that appears in the WEIGHT display should change when weight is applied to the deck. If it does not, the unit needs service. If it does, then calibrate. If the unit is still not operating properly, call Division Services for further assistance. 1-(800) (901)
TROUBLESHOOTING cont. ERROR CODES - There are two error codes that may show in the display. Error -1- and Error -2-. Either code will lock the unit until it is turned off and back on again. The operator should remember this code when calling about service. Error -1- Internal RAM mismatch. This error could be caused possibly by electrical noise and not cause any further problems. Recycle the power. If the problem continues, call for service. Error -2- This error would happen at the end of the calibration routine. It indicates that not enough calibration weight was used. If the operator knows, however, that 100 lbs was in fact used, then there is a problem internally and the unit will need service. 10
MAINTENANCE The battery supplied with this unit is a gel cel type. This type of battery should not be discharged completely. Repeated discharges to 0 volts will shorten the life of the battery. Units should be charged after each use to top off the battery (like a car battery). Normal battery life is 1 to 3 years. Field maintenance on this unit, other than proper charging, is not usually necessary. Periodic calibration may be required on this scale. Service at Division Services includes the following: 1. Repair the specific problem the unit was returned for. 2. Replace the 12 volt battery (if bad or over 1 year old). 3. Replace missing or badly worn scale feet and end bumpers. 4. Replace gaskets and frayed wire harnesses as necessary. 5. Upgrade to newest program version. 6. Do all hardware upgrades to make the scale current. 7. Straighten bends or dents in scale body or frame. 8. Run complete tests on electronics and load cell stability. 9. Clean the scale and charge the battery. 10. Repair any damage to the shipping crate. 11
