7 1.0.0 INTRODUCTION TO CALIBRATION Before beginning calibration of the Pennsylvania 400B indicator, one should become familiar with the operation of the front panel buttons and the display. The display is made up of two LCD display modules, both having six numeric digits and a number of arrow indicators that point to various scale functions labeled around the outside of the displays. In normal operation, the upper display shows the weight information and the lower display shows average piece weight and count information. SAMPLE READOUT kg lb OUT < ZERO NET ^ > FUNC PIECES APW TOTAL Scale 1 Scale 2 BATT The Above picture shows Scale 1 reading out in pounds and is set on zero. The keypad on the 400B is made up of 16 buttons. Ten numeric buttons, a decimal button, function button and four scale operation buttons. Numeric buttons 1 through 9 also have a secondary operation showing in a white block below each number. These secondary operations are initiated by pressing the function button and then the desired key. EXAMPLE: To operate the CLEAR button: - Press FUNC - The arrow indicator under FUNC on the display will come on. - Press 1/CLEAR G/N FT kg/lb ADD TOTAL CL TOT CLEAR ZERO C-OUT FUNC 0. TARE APW SAMPLE SCALE SELECT 7

8 When the indicator is put into the calibration mode, some of the buttons become re-defined to operate calibration functions. These functions are as follows: BUTTON CLEAR CL TOT TARE APW SAMPLE CALIBRATION FUNCTION Returns the indicator to the initial calibration step without changes. Clears the indicator s memory. Is used as a scroll button to select calibration values. Becomes an increment button, used to enter numbers onto the display. Becomes an enter button, used to enter information and move to the next program step ENTERING CALIBRATION MODE - First locate and remove the calibration access plate on the bottom of the indicator. SAMPLE READOUT 0.00 C O U n t S - Slide the memory protection switch to the off position. > CALIBRATION ON OFF From the calibration entry screen, two calibration sections may be accessed. These are, Adjusting the Weight Calibration and setting the Capacity, Resolution, and other Parameters. Adjusting the weight calibration is described in section and parameter programming is found in section These two calibration sections may be done independently of each other and calibration may be ended after completing either section PROGRAMMING CAPACITY AND RESOLUTION When programming the 400B to a platform for the first time it will be necessary to configure the indicator s weighing capacity, resolution and other parameters HOW TO ENTER CAPACITY 9

10 Before attempting to enter a capacity for the indicator, an explanation of the process is necessary. The capacity is tied to the number of divisions, or graduations, that the indicator can show and the placement of the decimal point within those graduations. The possible entries for the divisions are numbers from 500 to 10,000. Using a 5000 lb platform as an example, 5000 would be entered as the number of divisions and 0 would be entered for the number of decimals. This sets the capacity to 5000 and allows for up to 5000 graduations for weighing. In the case of a 5 lb scale the number 5000 would also be entered, but the placing of the decimal point at three decimal positions makes the capacity 5 lb by 5000 graduations. A chart showing common entries for the program steps; Divisions, Graduations, and Decimals for typical platform capacities is shown below. CAPACITY # OF DIVISIONS STEP DECIMAL 5 lb lb lb lb lb lb lb lb lb To determine other capacity / resolution use the following formula: Capacity/Divisions rounded up to 1, 2 or 5 = Step and Decimal PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE - From the calibration entry screen, press APW. - Display will show: SAMPLE READOUT d l u l S I - Key in the number of divisions.
