4 1. INTRODUCTION This manual contains installation, operation and maintenance instructions for the IDS-801 Series counting scale. Please read the manual carefully before installation and operation Product Description The IDS-801 Series electronic counting scale is an economical counting scale designed for fast, accurate and simple operation ideally suited for annual inventories, parts rooms, and many other counting applications. Combing an internal accuracy of 1/600,000 and an internal rechargeable battery, the IDS-801 Series scale offers accuracy, durability and probability in one practical design General Features Standard features include: *Stainless steel weighing pan *Durable plastic housing with protective cover *3-window, backlit LCD with prominent high digits *Fast display of Weight, Average piece weight (APW) and Parts count *Gram or Pound weighing units *Low sample weight and APW indication *Full counting keypad with numeric keys *Pre-set Tare and dedicated TARE keys for simple and fast operation *10 APW (Average Piece Weight) memory locations for commonly-counted parts *Accumulator function for weight and parts count *80-hour Internal rechargeable battery with power-saving Auto-shut off feature *Adjustable filtering level and Auto-Zero Tracking for weighing under various Condition 1.3. Safety Precautions For safe and dependable operation of this scale, please comply with the following safety precautions: *Verify that the voltage printed on the power cord and the plug type matches the local AC power supply *Make sure that the power cord does not pose a potential obstacle or tripping hazard *Disconnect the scale from the power supply when cleaning the scale. *Do not operate the scale in hazardous or unstable environment. 3
5 *Do not immerse the scale in water or other liquids. *Do not drop loads on the platform. *Operate the scale only under ambient conditions specified in these instructions. *Service should be performed by authorized personnel only *Do not open the scale or conduct any trouble shooting other than those listed on TROUBLE SHOOTING 2. INSTALLATION 2.1. Unpacking Unpack and verify that the following components have been included: *IDS-801 Scale *Weighing platform (plastic base with stainless steel pan) *User Manual *AC Power cord Save the packaging material. This packing ensures the best possible protection for the storage or transport of the product. Contact your dealer if any items is missing Installing components Position the weighing platform pins into the through-holes on the top housing, then set the platform securely into place. Secure the in use cover with double sided tape as needed Selecting the location Operate the scale on a firm, level surface. If necessary, adjust the leveling feet until the bubble is centered in the circle of the level indicator (located on the front panel) and the scale is supported by all four feet. If it rocks re-adjust the feet. Note: Ensure that the scale is level each time if location is changed Avoid locations with rapid temperature changes, excessive dust, moisture, air currents, vibrations, electromagnetic fields, heat or direct sunlight. 4
6 2.4. Connecting power AC Power Please use independent power plug to avoid interference of other electronic instruments. Connect the supplied AC power cord to the power input receptacle underneath the scale. Plug the AC power cord into a properly grounded power outlet Battery Power The battery will begin charging with the AC power connected accordingly. An LED indicator below and to the left of the Weight window shows the status of battery charging: Green - battery is fully charged Red - battery is partially charged and charging When AC power is unavailable, the scale will operate on the internal rechargeable battery. The scale will automatically switch to battery operation if there is a power failure or power cord is removed. Before using the scale for the first time,the internal rechargeable battery should be fully charged for up to 12 hours to ensure the longlife of battery. The scale can be operated during charging process. The battery is protected against overcharging and the scale can remain connected to the AC power line. Please note when the low voltage indication (right bottom of Count window ) shows, it means the scale needs to be charged. Note: If not recharge immediately, the scale will automatically turn off after 8 minutes of showing low voltage indication. The battery must be recharged every 3 months if the scale is not used for a long time. BATTERY IS TO BE REPLACED ONLY BY AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEALER. RISK OF EXPLOTION CAN OCCUR IF REPLACED WITH THE WRONG TYPE OR CONNECTED IMPROPERLY 5
7 3. OVERVIEWS OF CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS 3.1. Display symbols "Weight" Weight Window -6 digits, displays weight of object on weighing pan, or accumulated weight value. The left bit can display symbol "Zero" Center of Zero indication "Tare" Tare or Pre-set Tare (P.T) Indication "Piece Weight" Piece Weight Window-6 digits, displays the Average Piece Weight (APW) value, or number of weighments. Decimal point is floatable. "Wt.Lo" Low Sample Weight Indication-Total sample weight is less than10 display divisions, add more samples for more accurate reading "Apw Lo" Low Average Weight Indication-Calculated APW is less than 1/10 display divisions, unit weight is too small for ensuring accurate quantity calculations "Count" Piece Count Window-displays the calculated number of pieces on the weighing pan, or accumulated piece count value "Add" Scale is in Accumulation mode "STB" Stable Indication, scale is in stable condition "Lo" Low battery charge, recharge battery o LED Battery charging indication: o Green-battery is fully charged o Red -battery is partially charged and charging Low battery charge, recharge battery 3.2. Controls and Functions: Clears the indicated input values Zero the display when not in weighing mode Long press-initiates calibration 6
8 Inputs the weight of the object on the weighing pan as tare Weight Inputs the indicated sample size and weight to calculate APW Inputs the indicated unit weight value entered via the numeric Keypad Pre-set the limits of quantity or weight, alert inside or beyond the limits according to the set mode when weighing or counting Add the indicated weight or piece count value into Accumulation memory Recalls and displays the total accumulation data: weight, count and number of weighments. Inputs the indicated value entered via the numeric keypad as a Pre-set Tare value "0-9" and "*" 11x Numeric keys, 0-9 and decimal point 4. OPERATIONS 4.1. Preparation before operation A. Please do not put anything on the pan when turn on the scale B. Please put the object at the center of the pan and should not over the capacity to make sure accuracy C. Please preheat the scale for 15 to 20 minutes to make sure accuracy. D. It is better to external calibrate the scale before using E. Digit drift when power on is normal phenomenon, press ZERO before using Switching the Unit on and Off The power switch is located underneath the right-hand side of the scale. Push the switch to "I" position to turn the scale on, and to the "O" position to turn the scale off. Allow minutes for the scale to warm up before use. Note: Make sure the weighing pan is empty before turning the scale on. 7
9 4.3. Manual Tare (tare un item of unknown weight) Tare is indicated by the "Tare" annunciator. Place the empty container on the weighing pan (ex.100g), then press TARE. "tare" will be displayed momentarily before the weight is tared Pre-set Tare (tare un item of known weight) Pre-set Tare is a known tare value entered via the numeric keypad. Pre-set Tare is indicated by the "Tare" annunciator. With an empty pan, press P.T, "PrETA" will flash on the display. Enter a numeric value(ex.200g), then press P.T. The Pre-set Tare will be displayed as a negative value( no weight on the pan). With an existing weight on the pan (ex.250g), press P.T, "PrETA" will flash on the display. Enter a numeric value(ex.200g), then press P.T, the net weight will be displayed. When the weight is removed from pan, the negative weight displayed is the Pre-set Tare value. Note: To clear the Tare or Pre-set Tare, press TARE with the pan empty Zero Operation Center of Zero is indicated by Zero annunciator. During operation, the scale will sometimes zero drift ( the WEIGHT window does not display zero), Press ZERO to zero the weight display. "CEntr" will be displayed momentarily before the display is zeroed. 8
10 4.6. Sampling, Calculating Average Piece Weight (APW) Place the desired sample onto the weighing pan(or into a tared container), (ex.3000g), then press QTY SET, "SAmP" will be displayed momentarily before the calculated APW is confirmed. (based on the last sample size entered or enter a new sample size (ex.50) via numeric keypad before pressing QTY SET. Notes: *The larger the sample size, the more accurate the APW. *The sample size entered is retained even after the unit is turned off. *Unless stored into memory, (refer to sec 4.7 ), Piece weight values are not retained when the unit is turned off Entering a Known Piece Weight Enter the value of a known piece weight via the numeric keypad (ex.40g/pc), then press APW (with a weight on the pan, the piece count is automatically calculated and displayed). Notes: *To clear the Piece Weight value, press CE *"Wt.Lo" annunciator will turn on if the total sample weight is less than 10 display divisions *"APW Lo" annunciator will turn on if the APW value is less than 1/10 th display divisions. The scale can also operate counting function but may result in big errors. Increase the piece weight value for more accurate results. *Initate the entry of decimal values with a "0". For example, 0.5g is entered as "0" "*" "5" 4.8. Storing Piece Weight into Memory There are 10 memory locations (0 to 9 numeric keys) available to store APW values. After determining the piece weight (refer to 4.5 or 4.6), long-press APW for approx 2 seconds, "StorE" will flash on the display. Press any one of the numeric keys to store the piece weight data in this selected location. 9
11 Note: Stored APW values are retained when the unit is off Recalling Piece Weight from Memory Press the numeric key (ex.location 5) with the stored piece weight data (ex,40g/pc), then press APW two times. The stored data will be uploaded and displayed Accumulation: Weight and Quantity Accumulation is indicated by the "Add" annunciator. Place the item to be weighed/counted on the pan (ex.300g with APW of 60g), press M+,"Add",then the accumulation event is displayed momentarily before reverting to normal weighing mode. Note: Weight display must return to zero before the next accumulation can register. To recall total accumulation data, press TOTAL, then the WEIGHT Window displays total accumulated weight, PIECE WEIGHT Window displays total accumulation times and COUNT Window displays the accumulated count. The data is displayed momentarily before reverting to normal weighing mode. To clear the Total Accumulation mode, press CE while the data is displayed. Note: Accumulation data is not retained when the unit is turned off Pre-set Alert limit Pre-set the upper limit and lower limit of Quantity. When counting, the scale gives alert when the count is within or exceeds the limit with responding indication. With or without items on the pan, press Alert, the WEIGHT Window displays "---Hi---", enter the value of upper limit via the numeric keys (Press CE to clear the wrong value), then press Alert, the WEIGHT Window displays "---LO---", enter the value of lower limit via the numeric keys, then press QTY SET and the scale returns to counting mode. 10
12 Pre-set the upper limit and lower limit of weight When weighing, the scale gives alert when the weight is within or exceeds the limit with responding indication. Press Alert, the WEIGHT Window displays "---Hi---", enter the value of upper limit via the numeric keys (Press CE to clear the wrong value), then press Alert, the WEIGHT Window displays "---LO---", enter the value of lower limit via the numeric keys, then press APW and the scale returns to counting mode Clear upper limit and lower limit During Alert limit set up, enter "0" or press CE while entering upper limit or lower limit. Note: Alert mode is classified as limit alert and limit exceeds alert: 1. Limit alert: Weight and Quantity is within the limit of Pre-set Alert (including upper limit and lower limit), the scale gives alert sound and responding indication. 2. Limit exceeds alert: Weight and Quantity exceeds the upper limit or the lower limit, the scale gives alert sound and responding indication Backlight Under auto backlight mode, the backlight turns on when loading or pressing key, and it turns off 10 seconds after zero. Under manual backlight mode, press "*" to turn on or off backlit. 5. USER SET-UP MENU The JCS Counting scale can be configured for each application through the "user set-up menu". Each JCS is programmed at the factory to the most common settings. Read the description of each of the parameters and set each one to best fit your application Entering the "User Set-up Menu" When power on and during the self-checking, input "66868" to enter into the User Set-up Menu. In setup mode: Press TOTAL to step through each parameter press TARE to select the desired option 11
13 Press CE at any time to exit from the Setup mode Restart the scale after changing settings in the Setup mode. The following parameters are available: 5.2. Zero Tracking Range Sets the range in which the zero reading is maintained The following settings are available: 0=Off, 1=0.5d, 2=1d, 3=2d, 4=3d (d=scale division) Note: The number shows in the COUNT WINDOW is random numbers 5.3. Zero Display Range Set the range in which the Zero indication turns on. The following settings are available: 0=Off, 1=0.5d, 2=1d, 3=2d, 4=3d (d=scale division) 5.4. Filtering Sets the level in which the stable indication turns on, the higher the setting, the faster stabilization time The following settings are available: 0, 1, 2,3,4,5 (level) 5.5. Zero Return Range Sets the level in which the zero point is stable, the higher the setting, the more stable the scale The following settings are available: 0, 1, 2,3,4,5 (level) 12
14 5.6. Backlight Sets the activation mode of the backlight. The following settings are available: 0=Auto-on with items greater than 9d placed on the pan or any key is pressed; turns off after 5 seconds of inactivity. 1= Manual; press the decimal point key [*] to switch the backlight on or off Unit Selection Sets the active weighing unit. The following settings are available: 0=grams, 1=Pounds (lb) 5.8. APW Re-computing Sets the APW Re-computing mode. Optimizes piece weight accuracy by automatically re-computing the existing APW as further pieces (less than or equal to the original quantity on the pan ) are added (a beep will sound in this event). The following settings are available: 0=Off, 1= On Note: APW Re-computing turns off when the further pieces are larger than the original quantity on the pan or when removing pieces. APW Re-computing only work after sampling 5.9. Limit Alert and limit Alert Sets the weight or quantity limit Alert mode. Weight 0 g Piece g/pc The following settings are available: 0= Limit Alert, 1=Limit Exceeds Alert Weight Count CAL pcs 13
15 6. CALIBRATION For best results, calibrate the scale at regular intervals. Temperatures changes, geographic gravity variations, altitude changes and abuse are few reasons why a scale may need recalibration. When the scale is ideally positioned for operation, enter calibration and proceed as follows: Make sure the scale is in zero mode, long-press ZERO to initiate calibration (do not release key-press until "CAL " is displayed). The required calibration weight is flashed at the Piece Weight window(ex. 3000g for a 3kg model). At this time, a different calibration weight value can be entered via the numeric keypad. Place the corresponding calibration weight on the pan. The display flashes until the actual weight is registered and the calibration process ends (the scale momentarily beeps before exiting to normal weighing mode). Note: Press ZERO at any time to abort during the calibration process. The calibration weight value should not less than 1/2 Max to make sure accuracy 14
16 7. TROUBLE SHOOTING The following table lists common problems, possible causes and remedies. If the problem persists, contact your authorized dealer.
