Boot protection, pre-boot user authentication, and hard drive encryption, using powerful algorithms, help protect against unauthorized access and hacker attacks. At system power on, you are required to authenticate to SGN for ThinkVantage Technologies. If authentication fails, SGN for ThinkVantage Technologies will not decrypt the drive and the Microsoft Windows operating system will not load. If authentication succeeds, SGN for ThinkVantage Technologies will decrypt the drive as necessary and Windows will load. Since the SGN for ThinkVantage Technologies authentication demand occurs before the operating system loads, an unauthorized user cannot utilize a virus, Trojan horse software, keystroke logger, or other malicious software to capture the authentication information used. If you forget the password required to authenticate to SGN for ThinkVantage Technologies, a secure challenge and response procedure is available to reissue passwords. Network connection is not required to accomplish this, only a telephone. The SGN family of products for ThinkVantage Technologies is supported and warranted by Utimaco. It includes one year of maintenance, support, and upgrades (MSU) in the price of the offering. Lenovo can sell additional ongoing maintenance (MSU) renewals separately. Limitations Products for full hard drive encryption, such as Utimaco SGN, may prevent the operation of Computrace Anti-Theft and Loss Protection software from Absolute software. SGN and the Computrace client can be installed and used together only if the ThinkPad model being used includes the Computrace BIOS-based agent. SGN must be installed after installing or upgrading ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery. Follow all installation instructions provided by Utimaco.
